Regain Lost Power. Get back the power and torque your belt-driven accessories steal. As hard as it may be to believe, you can regain from 8 to 10 “free” horsepower with Steeda’s underdrive pulleys. These pulleys reduce engine parasitic drag from your accessories by about 25% and even improve fuel economy.


Superior Materials. Steeda underdrive pulleys are manufactured from nodular iron, and far exceed the quality of the stock factory pulleys. The one-piece crankshaft pulley uses a high-tech injection molded bonded rubber damper, making it far more durable than other manufactures "piggyback style" underdrive pulleys.


SFI Approved. Steeda underdrive pulleys are SFI approved for use by all major race sanctioning bodies.

Application. These Steeda Underdrive Pulleys are specifically designed for use on the 1996 to 1999 SVT Cobra and 2001 Bullitt Mustangs equipped with the 4.6L V8.

Technical note: Midway through the production run for the 2001 model year Ford changed the design of the water pump on the 4.6L engine. The older style pump produced from 1996 to mid 2001 had a longer shaft. In January of 2001 the design of the pump was changed to a shorter shaft. This necessitated a change in the design of the pump pulley.

    The Steeda Underdrive Pulleys for my 99 Cobra are awesome! Extremely well made. Installation was mostly a breeze and the instructions were dead on. However, I highly recommend using an impact wrench (as the instructions suggest) to remove your alternator pulley. If you don't have one, remove your alternator and go to a shop and have them remove the pulley and install the new one. I ended up breaking off a few fins on my alternator because I tried to use a screwdriver to keep it from spinning while I used a regular wrench to remove the bolt on the pulley. I ended up ordering a PA Performance replacement alternator, which was probably a good idea since it produces a lot more amps at lower rpms than the stock alternator and it is spinning slower. The only problem I had with any of the parts was with Steeda alternator pulley. It rubbed on the case of the PA Performance Alternator. I ended up using the pulley that came with the alternator and it works fine and is even has a little more underdrive to it, I believe. How is performance now? Some of the forums warned me about problems with my accessories and even my oil pump if I rev'ed over 5500 rpm too often. I haven't had any issues. My Cobra is faster and throttle response is much better. I highly recommended Steeda Underdrive Pulleys!

    These pulleys worked great for my 99 cobra. The car revs much faster and the throttle response is awesome too. Will recomend these to other 99 01 cobra owners.

    I am not sure of the hp gained after I installed the Steeda pulley set on my 1996 Cobra SVT, but it is definitely quicker off the line. I would highly recommend purchasing the Steeda set versus other brands and adhere strongly to the 1996-1997 114 - 121 ft lb torque value for the crankshaft pulley and 66/37 ft lb torquing series for 1998-2001 model stangs. This is a relatively inexpensive aftermarket upgrade that was easy to install which provides you with outstanding results. The only item most backyard mechanics will not have do perform this project is the Permatex Hi-Temp Black RTV Silicone gasket maker for the crankshaft pulley keyway slot and a three-post pulley puller (which I borrowed from O'Reilly Autoparts. In addition, torque the four water pump pulley bolts between 15 and 21 ft lbs...cris-cross pattern (according to Chilton).
