How much on average would it cost to paint this hood black?

jb56

  • On average it can be anywhere between $350-$700 depending on the shop. Depends on some factors. Such as prep work needed on the hood if it needs work for imperfections such as low spots due to the fiberglass process, and installation. You will save yourself some money if you prefit the hood yourself on your car and make sure everything is kosher prior to getting it painted. If it installs on your car and lines up properly and it sits and latches correctly then take it off, and bring it down to the body shop and have them paint it off the car. It will save you on some labor by installing the painted product yourself.

Clearance for supercharger? I was wondering if this hood allows a decent amount of clearance for a supercharger and if so does anyone know how much clearance it offers?

Hood height I'm need to know if this hood is higher than the stock hood since I need about 4 more inches.

JCaseyT

  • Yes, I would say it is roughly 2-3 inches higher. Personally I don't see that much of a difference.

I absolutely love the way it looks! i get non stop complements about it. the thing i love most though is that it also provides functionality! i love how it siphons cooler air and drops it to my cai. i also love the vents to keep the engine bay cooler. i read other reviews saying that these things throw off thier car but for mine i have no problems at all.

    TruFiber GTS 4 Hood

I've had this hood for almost a year now and i have nothing but good things to say about it. Straight out of the box it was in already to paint condition and painting was a breeze. The fitment was perfect and most of all everything on the hood is 100% functional from the hood vents to the ram air. I would definitely recommend this hood for its quality and amazing looks this gives the mustang

This hood makes this stang look so mean.

I have an 06 gt and this car could turn the heads. After putting on the trufiber gts 4 hood, people now snap there heads around to get a longer look. It now takes 5 min. Longer to get gas because everyone wants to know where and how to get there car to look like this. Best money I have ever spent.

Great looks, but screws with air flow

Hood looks phenomenal, fits great, love it. But in terms of the ram air, it does not seem to play nice with the CAI. Between 40-50 mph, car stumbles/hesitates. According to Trufiber rep I talked to, they say just needs better tune as they have plenty of people using this combination, as does a mechanic I talked to, mix richer in that range. But Bama tuners say no, what causes it is the ram air dropping air on the CAI is creating a turbulent air flow around the MAF and there's nothing that can be done about it in a tune since the MAF can't read the airflow properly, so I just need to plug/block the ram air hood. If anybody has any thoughts or experiences with it, or has got it working without blocking the ram air hood let me know, thanks!

    GTS Hood!

This hood looks great. It did have quite a bit of prep work before it was ready to paint as the gelcoat had spider web looking cracks running through it. My hood was predrilled for the hood pins that Trufiber sells and uses with their hoods. I have used both types of pins on the same type hoods and probably would not use the predrilled again next time although they do work. Like the other guys that have had problems with the air flow I had to block the cold air intake in the hood to keep from thowing codes like a few others have mentioned. The hood rubbed on 2 of the 06 mustangs at the shock tower covers when I added covers over the bolts. Other than that they looked great on the cars.

    Trufiber GTS-4 Hood

The hood needed some preparation before it could be painted. The gelcoat finish was not as good as I thought it would be, so most of the hood had to be re-worked in preparation for the paint. As for the installation that was easy, all the hardware from my original hood fit properly, and the hood went on with very little adjustments. Did have to pull one of the fenders out a little bit so the hood would not rub, but that was no big deal.

I bought this hood back in September and couldnt wait to get it on my 07 GT. The hood fits great, and it has really great looks. The best thing about this hood is that its FULLY FUNCTIONAL!!! Great seeing all the heat escape out of the vents!

    Exactly what I hoped for!

This hood was PERFECT. The body shop was able to paint it and did not have to do any additional prep work. I test fitted the hood before painting just to make sure. It fits perfectly and went on extremely well. As far as the problems others have had with their cold air intakes, I have had NONE of those problems. The air intakes redirect perfectly over my BBK cold air intake in my Mustang and there are absolutely no problems whatsoever. This hood completely changed the look of my car and I am extremely pleased with this addition to my car. Thank you American Muscle & Tru Fiber! :)

Sharp hood if prepped and painted carefully and properly!

I purchased this hood after literally MONTHS AND MONTHS of obsessive research, and finally decided on this after visiting the Shelby Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, and seeing how the Super Snakes were really set apart with their hoods. I found this Trufiber replica Super Snake hood, and purchased it, although after reflecting on everything after having it installed and driving with it for a while, I wish I would have gone with their more aggressive Super Snake replica hood with more dramatic angles and a higher air-induction height. I do have to say though, over a stock hood on the Mustang GT/CS that I was driving, this IS A HUGE UPGRADE in appearance. One thing it will do however, is cause CONSTANT check engine light warnings, because the heat-extractor vent is DIRECTLY above the throttle body, and the computer senses that it's too cold.

    GTS-4 Hood

about a month ago I came out from school to find that another student had backed into my car, damaging the hood severely. the guy at the shop I went to that her parents use said that I needed a new hood, so i took advantage of the opportunity and told them I wanted this. when they showed me my car with this hood I was speechless. this hood is absolutely stunning. it turns out that i didn't have to pay a dime for it, so I really won out. everywhere I go people are asking about it. some kids even came up to me and told me that they now like my car better than my friends '13 GT500(they must not know whats under the hood of that beast). when stopped at a red light I can see the heat from my engine escaping through the functional vents. the shop said the hood came primed and ready to put on and that it was a great fit. I also got the squirter relocation kit which works greatly also. all in all this hood is a great product and i definately recommend getting it if you have the option of getting a new hood.

    Excellent Hood, Definitely Turns Heads!

A great aesthetic modification for your 05-09 Mustang. Going from an OEM hood to this made me wonder why I hadn't got an aftermarket hood earlier. This hood has slits in the front as well as top of the hood for better cooling and airflow, along with lightweight feel, but not so much to feel cheap. Certainly worth the money. And from what I heard from the shop, it was much cheaper than the OEM hood.

I had a bad experience with another supplier for the same style hood. After a week the other hood still did not work out, too many problems with a bad hood made from Duraflex. This hood arrived and was in paint the SAME DAY!!!

    Great Hood

He guys, this is a great hood, fits perfect with standard mounting. The painter told me there was a little work to paint and finish, but my painter is very, very meticulous. Would I recommend this to any of you, you bet your sweet a-- I would. I have sent in a photo of my hood on my 08 red convertible. Enjoy!! Ray

    A True Ram Air Hood

I was the victim of an unfortunate accident during the first day of my Memorial Day weekend. After looking at this hood, and reading just about every review out there for it, I decided to tell the body shop this was the hood I wanted. At a 1/3rd of the cost of the factory hood not including the hood scoop I added on, I have to say that I came out way ahead! Trufiber recommends hood pins, and I have to say that they are right. I had everything installed at the body shop that did my repairs, and I am more than impressed with the way it came out. It draws a lot of attention, especially from other Mustang owners, and when coupled with a GT500 front end, you will definitely get looks of appreciation!
