Andrew Cilio For the 2006 Mustang, Ford carried over that modernized retro look from 2005 and threw in an optional Pony Package for base V6 Premium Mustangs. This Pony Package consists of GT-style grille mounted fog lamps, stock 17-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and a GT-inspired suspension consisting of larger stabilizer bars for the front and rear. The V6 and GT Mustangs are available in coupe and convertible with a fabric top and heated rear glass window. ABS with traction control comes standard on the GT and an option for the V6 Mustang. The V6 packs about 210-hp while the GT puts down a nice 300-hp. Coupes now come with folding rear seats that split 50/50.
The 2006 Mustang GT now offers two 18" wheel options. The first is the "fan blade" style wheel which debuted on the 2004 show car. The second is the "Bullett"-style wheel (also known as the Torq-Thrust wheel). The only other changes in 2006 were exterior color options: Sonic Blue was replaced with Vista Blue and Mineral Grey was replaced with Tungsten Gray.
Another big change came from the rental car lot where Ford Motor Company, Hertz, and Team Shelby teamed up to produce 500 Shelby GT-H racecar as a throwback to the GT350 “Rent-a-racers” from the 1960’s. These Shelby-H Mustangs are black with gold le mans and rocker stripes and are available through the Hertz Fun Collection at select airports in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington.
