Andrew Cilio: The 1980 Mustang saw very few changes from the revolutionary 1979 model. The 5.0L V-8 was replaced with a 4.2L V-8, which, sadly, had 21 few horsepower. There was also an option for a carriage roof, which would give the illusion of a convertible with it's top up, available on the 1980 Mustang. An actual convertible Mustang would not be made available until 1983, for the first time in ten years.

1980 also saw the tragic elimination of the famed 302 V8 engine option, replaced with a debored 4.2L, 255 cubic inch model. This was, of course, a response to "Energy Crisis II" of the late 70s/early 80s, and Mustang fanatics lamented the loss of 10 HP from the top-of-the-line model engine.
