1983 Mustang Overview
The 1983 Mustang saw some significant changes, beginning with the availability
of a convertible model for the first time since 1973. There was also the addition of a much more
powerful 5.0L V8 engine that pumped out 175 HP - the most in over a decade.
Performance updates included the introduction of the 5-Speed T-5 transmission and 3.27:1 gears in all
the V8s. The famous Ford Blue Oval also graced the Mustang for the first time ever in 1983, appearing
on the grille and decklid. The GTs also had a matte-black stripe placed on the hood, harkening back
to the Bosses and Mach 1s of the early 70s.
