Hi, I’m Mike Wilson with I’m here to show you this magnetic black out panel for 05-09 Mustangs. This magnetic black out panel is a budget friendly way to add some sleek styling to the front of your Mustang. Made from a die cut weather resistant magnetic material, this panel is satin black, and looks great on the back of any color Mustang. This panel is tailor made for the S197 Mustangs, and features an opening that is perfectly cut for the rear emblem, giving you a seamless finish, that’ll give your Mustang that aggressive blacked out look. For an even more aggressive look, you can combine this black out panel with a set of smoked tail lights, or a tail light tint kit. Installation for this part is very simple, and does not require any tools whatsoever. Simply clean the area of the deck lid where the panel will be applied. Then, align your panel in position around the center emblem, then let the rest fall into place. This is a simple installation that will take no longer than 15 minutes and require no tools whatsoever. If your magnetic panel is shipped rolled, we recommend that you lay it flat and let it set overnight for ease of installation. If you’re on a budget and you want to give your Mustang some aggressive styling that will help it stand out from the rest, this magnetic black out panel is a perfect touch for your 05-09 Mustang.

Ask a Question

Is this a matte black or gloss black? I have a white GT, will the white show through?

  • matt black. no your white paint won't show through. I wouldn't recommend buying this though. it made my paint underneath bubble(original paint). Witley from AM said "it needs to be taken off when the car is washed, which caused the paint to bubble" I've had it for less than a month. Also read reviews, this product doesn't last long. AM "doesn't have any warranty on this item". Good customer service, just poor policy. Also it doesn't fit right. the center hole for the emblem isn't large enough which is another common problem said in reviews.

Had it for about 6 months, and then in the winter air bubbles started forming between the magnetic and exterior layer. Repeated removal and re-application will cause it to rip. Bought the plastic one the 2nd time around.

    Bubbled after 4 months

I was really happy with it when I got it. It fit great and installed easily. It is basically a big refrigerator magnet that sticks to the back of your car. Mine did start to bubble after 3 months and I removed it. Bummer. I really liked the look of it. But it does NOT look good with bubbles

    Magnetic blackout panel

Easy to install. However, after a few months, it started to bubble. It also started to crack at the cut-out. I believe that the problem is caused by the car sitting in full sun. I had to throw it away...

    Blackout panel

Added this to my car last October - fit was ok, not real good around the center emblem. Install was super fast and it seemed to be a good value. It is now off my car. The poor fit got to me over time so I went to remove it and it split in the middle, at the top, right over the emblem. Well, now its trash after only 8 months. Added a vinyl blackout for half the price. Save your money - it won't last :(

    Blackout Panel

I really liked this panel. It went great with my light tints. It came with a slight bend but was easy to take it out when I put it on the car. Installation was dummy proof. Took maybe 5 seconds and is a great add on!

    Blackout Panel

The panel was shipped in a couple of days and fit perfectly around the contours of the trunk lock emblem cover. The magnetic panel was by all means a tailor made product for the S197.

Fits well around center cap but it came rolled in the box with no proper packaging and isnt cut perfectly so its slightly angled and lifted up on the edges, but it looks so sick and was easy to install since its magnetic. I will post again after winter.

    Cheap and Easy

I got mine yesterday. It came folded loosely rather than rolled, so it didn't have to sit out to straighten out at all. It took about 3 minutes to get it to sit right around the faux gas lid because it fits very tightly. (Which is good...) The car looks a lot sharper without spending lots of money!

    Going on 9 years

This Magnetic black out was the first thing I purchased from American Muscle for my 05. It has been on the car for 8 years not and it won't be much long until it has been "stuck" on there for 9. It has gone through over 200 automated car washes and never shift once. I not done one thing other than wax it along with the rest of the car since I bought it. If there is such a thing as no muss no fuss, this product is it. Stretch it over the decklid center cap and you're done.

    Get it painted!

Looked good for the first couple of months, then with rain and now colder temps water got into the center of the panel and bubbled. I ended up removing it.

    Blackout Panel

The Mustang looks nice with it on new but as time moves on it will start to shrink and crack. Better to have paid a little more on one of the other ones than to spend money on a second one Iike I just did.

Got the product and it was rather easy to put on. Looked pretty good on the car except for a few spots where it wouldn't cover the deck lid. After about 9 months I noticed a spot on it, when I tried to take it off I discovered that the magnet had melted to my car, I assume from the heat. Now I have a mess on my hands. Not too pleased..

    Instant gratification

This little mod is well worth your time and money. Super easy to install, just stick on. It comes rolled up so you will have to roll it onto a warm surface for a few minutes. I laid it out on my deck lid in the sun and moved it to the back panel once it was flat. Stayed in place cruising down the interstate and hung on nicely at the car wash. Will see how it holds up over time but for now it is 15 kinds of awesome.

The specific panel that I received did not fit around the trunk emblem, and it attracted a lot of dirt and dust. Overall, the build quality is poor but it still looks great.

    Will Start to Crack

Although this item looks okay on, and is inexpensive, it will start to crack. I live in Hawaii, and after about 1/2 a yr, it started cracking around the hole. Once that happens, the auto color will show. That's just my heads up, so the purchase is up to you, but I will not buy the same as a replacement. Sorry AM.

Looked ok.... for a little while.

I had purchased this black-out a few months ago and decided to review my experience with it... Fit WAS ok, but not perfect... looked awesome from far away but looks deteriorated as you got closer. Yes it is a cost effective way to get the look but within a months time with mine it had started to develop several blemishes (bubbling, fading etc..). I called AM and they took care of it immediately and issued a refund for me. Thanks AM for having awesome customer service, even when the products have issues!

    kinda sketchy at 1st

when i first got it i was like ahhhhhhhh ooooookkk then after putting it on it looked great, especially with tinted tail lights. i kept checking my rear view while driving to see if it fell off and it didnt. I even went through a car wash with it and it stayed on. in the future i plan on getting one that comes flush with the tail lights but as of now this one is great.

blackout panel that does the job.

i have had this magnetic blackout panel on my 'stang since i bought in 2007. its been garage kept and is just now showing signs of wear, mainly skrinking around the faux fuel door. no cracking yet but i can confirm that cracking can occur from sitting in the sun, not garage kept like mine was. i will be upgrading to the honeycomb decklid to match my rear lights soon. for this price it looks great, simple install it literally takes second to roll on. magnet holds it in place just fine. make sure you leave your mustang in the sun for a few hours after install. this will allow the magnet to stretch, get rid of bubbles, and allow for proper fitment. to put it simply, this decklidlooks great for the price, and it does the job. i recommend this product.
