Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I have with me a couple of different shorty antenna options for 79-09 Mustang, available in your choice of either black, or chrome. Let’s face it, the factory antenna is a major eyesore and it certainly doesn’t do your exterior styling any favors. At nearly 30” in length, it begs the question, did Ford secretly install a CB radio in my Mustang that I’m not aware of? Well, with these new shorty antennas in 8 and 14” lengths, you can finally rid your Mustang of that goofy factory piece, once and for all. Besides the two different length options, the shorty antenna is also available in your choice of a low key satin black finish, or a more flashy chrome finish. Despite being only a third of the size of the factory antenna, you shouldn’t notice any difference in your radio reception, which should hopefully alleviate any concerns you may have. Besides looking great, the shorty antenna literally installs in a matter of minutes, you simply unscrew your factory antenna, then screw the new shorty in its place, as far as working on your car goes, it doesn’t get much easier than this. While you’re in the area of the antenna, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to freshen up that stock antenna base cover, using one of these aftermarket covers available in your choice of either chrome or satin. This extremely affordable part really compliments that shorty antenna, and its another one of those nice little dress up items to add to your ride. So if you’re tired of seeing that ski pole attached to your front fender that Ford calls an antenna, then you have to check out one of these different shorty options available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Sleek 8" Design. Ditch that ugly 29” eyesore Ford calls an antenna, and replace it with a sleek 8” Shorty black antenna available from AmericanMuscle. Without the skyscraping 29” stock antenna, your 1979-2009 Mustang will look much cleaner and eye-catching, for all the right reasons.

Excellent Radio reception. There’s no difference in the quality of radio reception! All you’re losing is 21” of unsightly steel from the front of your car.

Designed to fit easily under a car cover. You will never have to worry about damaging your antenna or having to take it off every time you put your cover on. This low profile antenna will fit right under your car cover.

Quality Build and Finish. The antenna comes in a sleek satin-black finish that is both scratch and weather resistant. It includes brass fittings and is manufactured from high-grade steel. The antenna fits like an OEM part, but gives you that sporty aftermarket look.

Easy Install. Modding your car doesn't get any easier than this. Simply unscrew your old antenna and screw in the new one. It can be installed in just a few minutes.

Antenna 8"

Super easy to install took 2 mins. Looks great, way better then the factory one that's a foot taller than you roof. It took a little long to get here but i live on the Oregon coast so that's expected.

How is the reception with it being smaller?

  • Hi ErbStalk...I bought the 8" antena for my 2006 mustang and I don't notice any difference in reception! You should not suffer any reception loss either. Hope this helps you out!

Will this replace the stock antenna? I recently purchased a different short antenna from another web site and when the antenna came it had 4 different adapter screws for it and none of them had the correct threading to fit the base in my '09 GT. Getting the old antenna off is easy enough, but I want to make sure that if I get this one from American Muscle that it will screw in as easy as the factory one screwed out. Thank you.

  • Yes, old antenna screws out, new screws right in. No loss of reception that I've noticed. When you install, place a thin cloth or tissue between the adjustable wrench and the base of the antenna to avoid scratching the paint or scoring the base of the antenna. Tighten with slight pressure, not too much. Good product.

Has the resting issue been resolved? I guess I could add a dab of white grease to it before screwing it in but really shouldn't have to.

  • There should not be any rusting issues, adding anti-seize or any type of rust inhibitor is never a bad idea when installing any part.

    Antenna 8 inch

This antenna is a great alternative to that lighting rod Ford calls an antenna on the mustangs. I am glad I made the change and reception is still good. I recommend this product to anyone wanting to change their stock antenna.

    Great appearance improvement

Couldn't be easier to install, just unscrew the old antenna (or should I say Mast) and screw in the new one. Looks much better than stock and the reception is the same or better. Buy it!

    Shorty Antenna

Antenna looks great, prefer it over 14". But the 14" does get better reception. (I have both) I would say deal with loss of reception unless radio is all you listen to. 8" looks much better.

    A must have

The description when you buy says it all. Ditch the humongous antannae for one that is more subtle and performs just the same.

Compared to the fishing pole that comes with the stock car, this antenna looks great. I would recommend this to any Stang owner.

    Underlying Problem

Great "on the surface" but hides a dirty secret - the mounting screw is not weather resistant, so it rusts terribly, affecting reception and any hope of removing it for car washing, etc. Also breaks and bends fairly easily. I've given up after buying three.

    8-inch shorty antenna

Good product though it cuts back on radio reception a lot, still get all the local stations pretty good, also think it might be too small? 12 inch might have been a better option.

Two down; time for something better

Purchased my 1st one and loved it, but it snapped off in the 1st car wash. I bought a replacement and I baby this one, but it is still quite easily bent and you don't dare straighten it for fear of it breaking. Worse, the connector has rusted out so badly that the radio reception is significantly degraded. The product is too stiff and the connector too cheap to be viable long term.

    Nice Appearance

This antenna, compared to the stock one, is a huge difference. When I changed it on my car, I was shocked that this wasn't the stock one to begin with because it makes the mustang look that much sleeker and nicer. Installation took literally 2 minutes, and trust me you'll like the new look.

    Looks Great!

This is a super easy installation and looks much, MUCH better than that ugly stock antenna. Just unscrew the old one and screw in the new one. I would use a wrench to tighten it down, just make sure you put a shop towel or cloth between the wench and antenna so you don't scratch or scrape the finish.

    Nothing to Write Home About

As an Electrical Engineer I'll say you'd have to be crazy to think that you will experience no signal attenuation with a smaller antenna made from the same material as the original. That being said you're only looking at around 1 or 2 dB which would only be a problem if you're fighting for reception already. Don't rely on testimonial evidence; attenuation WILL happen. Since I don't use the radio this isn't an issue for me. The antenna looks much better than the mast and screwed right into the original post as advertised. Be careful though as the paint chips easily so use a cloth when you're tightening it in.

    That Easy

This is the easiest installs every a 1st grader can do it. My only complaint is that it seems like building can interfere with some stations.. I dunno if it has to do with the size or the fact that i live out in the sticks.. Overall great product.

    Best money spent ever

This is a must, looks so much better than the big stock one. Didnt loose any Stations iether. Also better to have when going thru a car wash, much less of a chance of it being pulled off.
