Andrew Cilio: The 1990 Mustang offered a sedan, hatchback, and convertible model. The LX came equipped with a 2.3L inline 4 cylinder producing 88 HP, and an LX 5.0L was available along with the GT model. 1990 ushered in the year of federally required passive restraints. Ford complied by adding a driver side airbag to the steering wheel, eliminating tilt steering and warning light module. The GT retained the same engine since 1987, the electronic fuel injected high output 302. The motor included a 60mm throttle body, roller lifter cam, and aluminum intake plenum. Ford used E7TE truck heads with stainless tubular headers and exhaust. The exterior of the GT remained the same except for a couple additional paint options, and the removal of the external tape stripe on the beltline. Interior changes included rear seat shoulder restraints and different HVAC controls. There was a special edition LX model called the 7-UP Mustang, it featured metallic green paint and white leather interior.
