Andrew Cilio The 1991 Mustang continued in the tradition of previous model years. The most notable change came to the LX models inline 4 cylinder, which received an eight plug cylinder head, increasing horsepower from 88 to 105 due to dual plugs firing each piston. Convertible models were redesigned so the top would fold lower to the body- allowing for sleek appearance. Automatic transmissions were modified with a shifter lock to prevent a shift from park without pushing the brake; the change eliminated the steering column switch. The V-8 Mustangs all sported a new 16 inch 5 spoke alloy wheel with a tri-bar running horse logo. Ford added 4 new exterior colors to the Mustang GT-Medium Titanium Clearcoat Metallic, Titanium Frost Clearcoat Metallic, Deep Emerald Green Clearcoat Metallic and Medium Red. It also came with the sports seats, and new pedals to allow for heel and toe downshifting. The V8 Mustang was still equipped with a high output 302 and E7TE truck heads, producing 225HP. The GT model was considered a bargain with all V8’s retailing under $20,000.
