Review & Install Video

Justin with Today, I’m going to be taking a closer look at the BBK 70 mm throttle body for all ’05-’10 V6 Mustangs. BBK is one of those companies who loves Mustangs just about as much as we do, and it shows with all of their quality EFI products for late-model Mustangs. This throttle body is going to increase airflow by replacing your smaller factory throttle body with a much larger diameter BBK. When you compare the smaller factory 65 mm throttle body to that 70 mm from BBK, you can see the difference that will allow for more airflow into your engine. In terms of quality and construction, this throttle body is a solid piece. It’s been CNCed from high quality aluminum for a perfect fit and features double sealed bearings, stamped throttle linkage, o-ring throttle shafts, and more. You can run this throttle body bone stock without a tune or an intake and still make more power over your baseline. However, this is one of those mods that works great in conjunction with other supporting mods, especially with other cold intake systems, as some of you on the site have pointed out. Another thing that you on the site have pointed out is that this product installs easily in about 2 hours, even for some of you first-time wrenchers out there. You will need to transfer over both your TPS sensor and your throttle body motor to the new BBK throttle body. After that, it’s simply reinstall in reverse order, plug everything in, and you’re good to go. So if you’re looking to make the most out of your 4 liter V6, then you’ll definitely want to check out this 70 mm throttle body from BBK Performance.

Ask a Question

Will this work with a Throttle body spacer I have a stock throttle body with a Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer at the moment. Will the 70mm work with myy current setup or will I have to ditch the throttle body spacer.

  • The Airaid throttle body spacer is intended for use with the stock throttle body only, due to the smaller bore sizing matched with stock. When you upgrade your TB to the 70mm, the spacer will actually be more restrictive and block your potential new power. I'd suggest upgrading your TB to this 70mm to get better performance and simply remove the spacer. The TB upgrade will be a better power upgrade over the spacer. Hope this helps!

Does this require a tune I was wondering if this required a tune and also if this would fit with the Airraid CAI?

  • No this does not require a tune. Although a tune would really help you get the most out of this modification. As far as the CAI goes, a lot of people combine this with the BBK CAI and have had no problems. Some people even add a throttle body spacer and have no problems but a very snug fit.

HP? how much horse power will this increase when paired with a bbk cold air intake?

  • About 15 Horsepower based off of feeling. I have not had a chance to dyno it yet.

On average how much hp and tq does it add? i also have a bbk cold air intake in my car all ready how much with the combo

  • I'd say about 7hp and 7tq. Add a tune and it'll give you 10.

Would this TB work with the x charger extreme supercharger??

  • From what I see. the stock size is 65MM, so I seriously doubt this will be of any improvement, especially if you plan on going with forced induction. Superchargers are critical when it comes to the air stream before the supercharger, so 5MM will IMHO, will be a useless expense. Plan the size according to the boost you are expecting to run.

TPS Voltage I don't have a voltage reader and being stationed in Germany kind of hard to get one. Do I really need to do this? If I don't what's the worst that could happen?

  • Actually this throttle body works with the original hook ups. The only reason to bother adjusting it for tuning it to your ideal out put. If you do that, go with a cold air intake. The intake helps and is fairly easy to put on. I know just adding the throttle body will give you a noticeable response.

Great product...easy to install. About 30 minutes install time. After your install you will drive with your windows down and listen to that whistle the intake makes as you punch it. I recommend a CAI by BBK with this throttle. Mount up Regulators.

    Great product

Paired this with the BBK CAI. I'm not driving a rocket, yet, but it definitely made a difference in in responsiveness. Please note you will be required to reuse some of the screws on the stock throttle body. My bad luck one of those screws and seized and broke on removal. Great product! Thanks AM!

    BBK 70mm throttlr body

With this throttle body it gives my V6 a lot more get up and go. On the highway i can hear a whistle sounds, makes it nice. The only problem i had was it was when you put the spring back in, make sure you rotate it counterclockwise, if you dont then you get zero throttle.

Easy to install, instructions are ok. The install video needs to be updated or a new one added for the BBK TB used on the V6. As far as performaence its to early to tell, just put it on about an hour ago. Very little drive time but I can tell there is improvment in throttle responce at the low end. This is a must have for the V6.

    It's alright

It's rather expensive. I'd almost rather just machine the stock piece and make that bigger. Small HP increase barely noticable but I did get a little better gas mileage so I suppose it will eventually pay for itself.

    BBK Throttle Body V6

I recently purchased this BBK throttle body for my V6 mustang. I am an amatuer when it comes to working on cars so it took me about 1-1/2 hours to install it. However, when I was done I couldn\'t believe the power gain! I think they quote 10 more hp but I swear it was more that I gained. I am waiting for my BBK cold air intake to come tomorrow. Anyone with a V6 who\'s looking for extra power, pick this throttle body up!!!!!

    worth the money

I bought this along with the K&N air intake. The combination of the two increases the pull of you car and makes it sound more like a V8. I am recommending this throttle body to any V6 owner.

    Great mod

This is a great upgrade, make sure you get this with a CAI to see true upgrade. Also, be careful taking the T20 screws off of the TAP sensor box, they strip easy, had to take it to an auto shop to have them cut the screws off. Also, the Steeda Spacer is good to buy with this, but just make sure you align it properly on the intake manifold, otherwise, it will not align properly and you could have a gap of air rush out from manifold to throttle body. Definitely noticed a pickup from 1st gear to 2nd and i can feel it really kicked in when I switch to third gear. Very good upgrade and AM as always on point. -Mario

i was amazed at how easy install was. I thought it would be much harder but with the detailed instructions it was a breeze. With the CAI it makes such a sick whistle noise and some hp & tq gains as well. It was a pain to get it to fit with a spacer to but over all a great product and AM shipped it and i got it 2 days after i ordered!! :)

    Pretty f-ing sweet

Nice machined finish, easy how to list, and man the whistle is sexy man it sounds like my car has a turbo lol. I also got the speda spacer and those bolts that come with it suck they dont fit flush, and cant get a socket in there, so i dremeled the edges of the throttle body a bit and it worked fine!!

    Good product

Me and my friend just installed the throttle body onto my 2010 mustang. At first it was easy to install but make sure you titan the spring inside or your car will not give any gas. The car does have a nice whistle now but does no where near sound like a I do feel hp gain and tq gain, my car climbs faster just cruising in 2000rpm

    BBK Throttle-body

The throttle-body is definetly bigger, throttle response is better even though I installed it with a BBK CAI and a custom tune from Bamachips. The installation was as easy as it gets. I noticed more power off the start but my vehicle threw the angry wrench and an over torque engine code. Used a strategy code with 93 octane and it works just well but SCT has a patch for those wishing to extract more power from the combo. Good product and as usual American Muscle RULES!!!

    2007 Mustang V6 -- 70mm TB

First off, AM did a great job as always on delivering the product on time, and great customer service. However from reading all of the reviews and questions supplied on BBK's 70mm TB I had expected more than what the part has delivered so far. I've spent a few hours trying to fine tune and tweak the part for maximum performance, and it just doesn't seem to have any to give. It does deliver a little kick in the pants, but not enough to justify the price. I've not noticed any whistle thus far too, so any and all reviews have been little or no help to me on this purchase. I'll keep playing with it for the time being, perhaps in time I'll find it's wheelhouse. Bottom Line: What power gains are to be had from this part doesn't truly justify the price. Between a high end tune (Maxed out 93 octane), and a $300 TB I can honestly say I'm driving the same car I was a few days before installation.

Alright. After I got this part installed, it just feels like you have a longer range to accelarate and mentain your engine running whenever you stop hitting the gas I can feel the difference driving now. Having a K&N Typhoon air intake system installed, which I wish AM would have cause it\'s just great, it\'s really working great with the throttle body. It keeps whisteling all the time now! It really complamainted my dual exhaust system as well. I had a problem with fitting my MMS spacer with this throttle body. It didn\'t really fit and BBK customer service suggested that I don\'t use it cause it doesn\'t really have an effect, but I kept it on anyway. In 05 models, stock throttle body has a water circulation at the bottom of it that is not seen in this aftermarket part. It\'s mentioned in the instructions. I had a little hot water shower while installing, thanks to fine print. BE CAREFUL! Over all, I think the gain is not bad, especially if you have other mods installed. I bet I\'m going to really feel a difference after I get my tuner and custom tune my V6 sometime soon. Thanks AM

    Wow, significant change!

I drive a 2010 V6 Automatic. So at first I wasn't sure about getting this product due to the price. Yet, I finally pulled the trigger and boy am I glad I did. The power change is significant. Not only in horsepower gain, sound from my dual exhaust, and the takeoff but also in the higher gears. Before the Throttle Body installation, when I floored the car the speedometer needle would go up at a steady pace until I hit about 85 or 90, then it would slow down so much that it took forever to hit 110 and twice as long to hit 120 (which is the top speed for the speedometer on the '10 v6). Now when I floor it that needle flies all the way up to 120 and I could use a speedometer that goes higher (i dont understand why ford only put it up to 120 -_-). I think before, the engine was struggling to get enough air at those speeds to compensate for the fuel. But now with the larger throttle body it is taking in a lot more air and it is producing a lot more power. This is one of the best performance mods I have done yet and it isn't even tuned! I receive my tuner next week and I can't imagine how much difference that will make. As far as the noise it makes.. The throttle body makes a sweet whistle noise that sounds good when reving it up. But it also made my exhaust deeper and throatier. Overall, great buy and I definitely recommend! Thanks AM! BTW be sure to get your voltage right, I set mine a little to high to begin with and although it sounded amazing the car accelerated on it's own and did whatever it wanted haha. But setting the voltage is easy with the directions provided. Just be sure to memorize your stock voltage.

    70mm sucks and whines

this throttle body whines but so do a lot of after market throttle bodies, it is a good choice I can feel a small something, a dremel helps with the whine a little to smooth out the edges of the intake, and butterfly.

I noticed a slight gain not much though, I currently only have this mod and BBK CAI w/o tune so it is understandable that any gains will be negligible right now. Only issue was after install I had this annoying whistle around 2.5k RPM (I don\'t have the spacer on since it didn\'t seem to fit the larger TB but the whistle sounded nothing like a turbo it was incredibly irritating). Anyway just for the benefit of anyone considering this TB, you may have to do some sanding/dremeling of the intake plenum where the TB fits to smooth the edge otherwise the sharp edge may cause turbulence and the annoying whistle. You can read about this problem on

It took me over 10hrs. with 2 differnt throttle bodies from BBK to find out that they were not milled rite or something. It sent off check engine codes like crazy left me stuck on the highway twice, throttle got stuck a few times. It was such a freakin pain in the but. I sent them both back and got the cheaper SR Performance throttle body hooked it up and I have now been using it for 2 days with no problems at all.
