    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Mike Wilson here with, standing here with the BBK cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to combine this with a Bama race tune to see how much horse power and torque we get. But before we do that, we’re going to make a dyno run stock so we get some baseline horse power and torque numbers. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The BBK cold air intake kit is a great first modification that combines both power and style. By removing the factory restrictive airbox, and replacing with an open element reusable air filter, and a straight intake tube, you’ll notice increased horse power, torque, acceleration, and a throaty engine sound. And its bright, chrome finish, will definitely enhance the under-hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now lets do another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we can get. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit along with a Bama performance tune and our car put down 192 horse power and 218 ft/lbs of torque, gaining as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit and a Bama performance tune all in under an hours time using simple hand tools, and gained as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque.

Improves Horsepower. This Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the stock air box and restrictive paper filter element in your 2005- 2009 V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response, while filtering out destructive power-robbing dust particles. This CAI pulls cooler, denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the 2005-2010 V6 mustangs the BBK CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at BBK really did their homework to improve your pony's power using the stock tune.

Reusable Filter. BBK designed their high flow cotton air filter to be reusable, so there's no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Chrome Finish. The BBK CAI not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with a beautiful bright chrome finish. You'll be sure to attract attention at all the car shows with this jewel under the hood.

CARB Certified. Best of all this BBK Mustang Cold Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-245-14 (applies to 2005-2008 V6 only).

Easy Install. The BBK Cold Air Intake kit was designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This BBK Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2005-2010 4.0L V6 Mustangs and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation.

Does this C.A.I increase your MPG? Does the bbk cold air intake increase your mpg? and if so by how much? Also this is without any tune being put on. Thanks

    • It decreased my MPG because im slamming the acceleration all the time now hahhaa Ill gladly sacrifice MPG to feel that instant acceleration and hear that whistle :)

does it cut down my seconds and it does how much? right now its a 8.9 seconds

    • The BBK Cold Air Intake may cut down the quarter mile time depending on what tune it is paired with. This CAI weighs approximately 11 lbs.

Good day, I live in Spain and my mustang automatic burnts 95 octane gasoline since it was imported from USA. in 2008 without any problem. My questions are: 1.- Any problem is expected with the installation of this CAI without tune? ( I don't want to modify the factory's engine setting) 2.- Will the engine light turn on? 3.- Any special recommendation during the installation to prevent the engine light on? 4.- What is the difference between this CAI and the BBK CAI with black inlet pipe? Thanks and rgds.

    • The BBK Cold Air Intake does not require a tune, and will not cause your check engine light to come on. Just make sure that it is tightened down properly, and there are no leaks. The only difference between the 2 intakes is the finish. The performance will be the same!

I have bought this product and it is amazing but will it fit on a 70mm throttle body?

    • The BBK Cold Air Intake will work with a 70mm throttle body. The coupler may be very tight, however, it will indeed fit.

Well for those wondering the engine light thing, tighten the belts around the throttle body and the intake, But also I noticed that my mileage got better, it says 105 miles till empty on the second to last bar on my dash board (last bar being the red one) and it previously would be 50-70 miles till empty when it got to that point, I don't know if that's right or not lol I'm waiting to run out of gas to find out

    • A loose clamp after the MAF can certainly cause the check engine light as it brings in air the car did not measure. For the fuel economy, you should see a slight increase, but it sounds like a good portion of that is the trip computer being optimistic. typically we see around 1-2 mpg gains on an otherwise stock car.

    • Unfortunately, we do not offer any heat shields separately.

This intake was very easy ton install with almost no knowledge needed under the hood, just know how to use tools basically. The preformance you can feel, is say 10 - 15 hp not the stated 15 - 25 but you can feel it, theres a little wine when you step on it too. Id recommend this to anyone with a v6 stang

      Excellent Upgrade

I recently purchased this for my 2005 V6. I was skeptical after reading some of these reviews saying that you'll need a tuner else you'd run into problems. Personally, this is the only mechanical upgrade I have on my Mustang, and I have not had any problems with it. I can definitely notice the difference in my acceleration and power. When I first backed out of my drive way, put it in drive and pulled off, I was surprised and shocked. There was no more "delay" in the acceleration. At the bottom of the instructions that are included, it gives you a heads up about the possibility of running lean. So far, my baby is running perfect. If you're questioning it: don't. It's an awesome upgrade for something so simple.

      remember to...

Please please please read the instal directions carefully before you instal. i see lots of people saying there check engine light came on, yes it will if you do not remove the positive battery cable before installation as with any change you make to your mustang (or any car for that matter). and if you do that the computer will reset, recalculate, and tune the engine for the new airflow perfectly. which will result in a slight increase in HP and mpg. the only problem i had was when my engine idles cold the heat shield on the intake rattles, just but some of the cushion shielding on the bottom of the shield and it solved it right up. this product is great, don't pay attention to those who do not read instructions, make sure and read them and follow them and the product will work perfectly.

      Great Product and Buy

Couldn't be happier. From box to car, everything needed was included and fit perfectly. Screws for the MAF ran in just fine. The engine light will be thrown if you don't disconnect the battery for 30 mins and the reset the computer as per the user manual. My car threw it until I reset the computer and now it's as happy as it can be, even with a dual exhaust! Overall, great product for a great price. Well worth everything for a quick bolt-on mod!

      Piece of Cake

I installed it in my 2010 V6, took about 20 minutes. There was nothing to it. Easy instructions to follow. I had no codes or problems. Next to install is the magnaflow catback system I ordered. Turning my V6 into a sleeper all thanks to AM.

      Amazing Product for the Price!

All manuals, hardware, etc. came with this item. The MAFS screws were included and FIT the sensor hole on the new pipe. I didn't have to use my stock screws. If you go to BBK's website, they have an excellent video on the installation procedure. Very easy to install. I know it's been mentioned many times, but make sure you disconnect the Neg terminal from the battery before you install this item. Some of you have had the check engine light come on, but make sure to the hose and MAFS sensor are installed, seated properly. Also the hose clamps for the air filter as well as the blue rubber coupling that attatches the chrome tube to the TB. The suction sound when you get on the throttle sounds great and you can still hear the whine sound from the TB. Mine has been installed for a week now and no Check Engine light has come so far. I have noticed about 2 mpg increase so far. Would highly recommend!

      Needs a tune!!!

This product does what its supposed to do; put more air into the engine. the difference is noticable. more pick up power, better sound from exhaust with duals, and just overall smoohter than the stock intake. BUT the check engine light will come on. i tried everything. dicconected the - and + mulitple times. tighten and rechecked multiple times. and even put in 93 octane. this thing just needs a TUNE!!! im pissed for bbk advertising false statements but american muscle did fine with the shipping and customer support. BOTTOM LINE: dont buy unless you can get a tune!!!

      Cool Cold Air

Great looking. Installed in about 45 min., make sure to disconnect your battery during instalation so the computer "re-learns" your driving habits and adjusts to the intake. No codes thrown and it looks great. Cool little whine sound above 3200 RPMs. Excellent value for the money.

      Low End Power

Looks and sounds great, quality is top-notch, some power gains, most noticeable through 1st and 2nd gear, as well as top gear acceleration.

I have had the CAI installed for about 3 weeks now. I did disconect the negative battery terminal but got an engine light anyway. This continued for 3 more times despite disconecting the terminal for as much as two hours. The light was comming on after I had acclerated on the highway with the pedal all the way down. The last time what I did was give the computer time to catch up by accelerating at a more gradual rate and driving at various speeds. The engine light has not come on since I did this.Last night I acellerated to the MAX and it stayed off. I was suprised by the dramatic improvement in performance both in throttle response and apparent Brake horse power and rear wheel torque. Next comes the true duals and the Flash tuner will follow. I hope this helps someone that may have similar problems.

      You can feel it.

I put this on my 2006 v6 auto mustang. Despite having doubts, I can notice quite a difference. My friend who helped me install it after I hit it the first time remarked that he didn't remember my car kicking his head into the seat that violently. I just ordered a tuner with a tune for it and expect that will help a lot too. 4 stars for 2 reasons. 1. The installation instructions were poor and lacked enough pictures. 2. The surround ought to come already molded onto the metal tray...I had to cut it and its not as pretty as it would be in one piece. My tips and things to help you install. 1. The clamp that holds the filter onto the tube should be inside the metal tray, I kept trying to put it on outside of it and it would just slip down over the MAF. 2. when removing the radiator cover, the little plungers are confusing. You need to take a screw driver and pop out the center piece and then remove the other part, put it back in by placing the holder in first the pushing in the center piece. 3. Make sure the MAF flow arrow is going the right way.

      Quick Easy HP!

This is a great part for any v6 owner. I would say an extra 10-15 horsepower and definite acceleration improvement. This was my first install on the car and took me a little over an hour. Engine light came on after a week but reset the computer and switch to 89 octane and the car runs amazing. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since the reset and no problems. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I had to move up a grade in gas with the rising gas prices. Other than that, awesome product.

      Ride it, my Pony!

      Nice Product

Took me about 20 minutes for installation and I am a beginner! I read AM instructions and watched the BBK video posted on their web page. I removed the negative battery terminal first. I had previously filled the tank with 93 octane gas. I had no codes. It changed the exhaust sound slightly and you can hear it sucking in air! The car responds better but it does not make the V6 a GT lol. I love it. Thanks AM! next will be headers maybe or exhaust.

      2007 V6 BBK CAI install

looks like I may fowl up alot of great reviews but maybe I have more experience than most in this regards. why I only gave 3 stars are..... 1.My unit did not come with any fastenres so I guess BBK wants you to use the same fasteners that come off stock Air box and they dont work! The screws for the MAF sensor on the stock box wont work with the threads on the BBK Pipe, the stock pipe is a plastic thread screw and the screw required for the BBK is a machine screw thread (metric), plus the long screw used to fasten the filter shroud box is now too long on the BBK, so I had to go to hardware store to get all the correct fasteners. 2. BBK claims "no tune required" BS!!!! My engine light came on after 10 mins!!! it's now running too lean, fortunately I bought a tuner at the same time to adjust, but BBK shoudl not make this "no tune required" claim. I just want people to have no surprises like I had. 3. The sheet metal box is poorly designed and flimsy with only two mounting points, its way too flimsy for my opinion.

      Very Satisfied

I did not notice that much difference at first because I ordered and install it two weeks after I bought my 2010 V6 and I had not driven the car enough to get used to how it ran. It seemed to be quicker but I wasn't sure. The last tank of gas I put a higher octanie gas and really noticed the difference. The car is much quicker, more responsive. I am not a gearhead by any sense of the imagination but I was able to install it myself and get it right. If I can do it anyone can.
