- BBK Cold Air Intake Installation Guide (2005-2010 V6)
Hey guys, Mike Wilson here with AmericanMuscle.com, standing here with the BBK cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to combine this with a Bama race tune to see how much horse power and torque we get. But before we do that, we’re going to make a dyno run stock so we get some baseline horse power and torque numbers. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The BBK cold air intake kit is a great first modification that combines both power and style. By removing the factory restrictive airbox, and replacing with an open element reusable air filter, and a straight intake tube, you’ll notice increased horse power, torque, acceleration, and a throaty engine sound. And its bright, chrome finish, will definitely enhance the under-hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now lets do another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we can get. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit along with a Bama performance tune and our car put down 192 horse power and 218 ft/lbs of torque, gaining as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit and a Bama performance tune all in under an hours time using simple hand tools, and gained as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque.

Good and Bad Product
Installed this product without a tuner and no check engine light came on. I was worried about that happening after reading certain reviews, maybe no check engine light came on because I always run highest octane. Car runs smoother how it should from factory. A lot more responsive with minimal pressure applied to gas pressure. Not worth the $219.99 plus tax. MAF fits both ways when sliding it into the tube however ran into a problem where the screws only fit on MAF sensor if you put MAF upside down, when I tried turning on my car it turned on but then instantly turned off, instantly I knew it was because the air flow on the MAF was not reading the correct signal so I took out the MAF put it in the way it should go and used electrical tape to prevent MAF from flying out after doing that car turned on and ran how it should. Looks terrible if you stare at the electrical tape however did not feel like returning it.Helpful (2)

Looks and sounds cool
It looks good sounds cool gas mileage went up a little and felt better throttle response for sure but after 10 mins the cel came on saying it was running lean then the car completely died when I was sitting at a stoplight. I cleared the code and it worked great for a couple weeks then light came back it seems every time I clear the light it’s fine for a little but then goes back to running lean. This is sold as a no tuner part but now I’m going to have to get a tuner hopefully the tuner actually fixes it.Helpful (1)

I bought this mainly because its a reputable brand and the fact it says you will not need a tune. Well they are wrong. I shoulda seen all the comments all over the web about this cai throwing a code. So i called AM the lady told me yes i will need a tune period. Does make a cool sucking noise. Maybe feel a lil bit of a difference. But now i guess i am gonna get a tuner cause i dont wanna take it off and waste 219 bux. So plan on spending another 400 dollars. If you buy this one.. But other than that it is a nice cai.Helpful (1)

BBK CAI 05 Mustang 4.0 Liter
The MAF was riveted on upside down and created a problem with the air flow going toward the filter::a big no no. The only way to install was to zip tie in place.Helpful (0)
Does this C.A.I increase your MPG? Does the bbk cold air intake increase your mpg? and if so by how much? Also this is without any tune being put on. Thanks
It decreased my MPG because im slamming the acceleration all the time now hahhaa Ill gladly sacrifice MPG to feel that instant acceleration and hear that whistle :)
Should I upgrade my exhaust before I put it in? I'm not planing on tuning it anytime soon A friend told me that I should upgrade the exhaust first, since it could damage the Engine, due to increased airflow.
The BBK CAI does not require a computer re-tune but it is recommended since you will have more airflow and could possibly have your car run lean. An exhaust will also help with the air flow but is not needed.
does it cut down my seconds and it does how much? right now its a 8.9 seconds
The BBK Cold Air Intake may cut down the quarter mile time depending on what tune it is paired with. This CAI weighs approximately 11 lbs.
how do you reset your computer ?
You would need a dealer to flash your ECM.
This CAI uses the stock MAF sensor? I remember a few years ago installing a Cold Air Intake and using the stock sensor immediately threw a CEL. I just want to verify that everything that’s stock attaches to this Intake
This is CARB legal under CARB EO Number: D-245-14. This applies to 2005-2008 only, it is not legal for the 2009 model year. It does not require a tune.
This piece is only 50-state legal for 2008-2010. For 2009-2010, please refer to your state's local laws regarding legality.

This BBK cold air intake should for no reason turn on the check engine light. If you experience this issue please contact our customer service department so they can assist you in resolving this issue.
The BBK filter will come pre-oiled.
The BBK Cold Air Intake allows more airflow compared to the stock intake. You will see a slight power increase, but we suggest getting a tune to get the max horsepower increase.
The BBK Cold Air Intake does not require a tune, and will not cause your check engine light to come on. Just make sure that it is tightened down properly, and there are no leaks. The only difference between the 2 intakes is the finish. The performance will be the same!
The BBK Cold Air Intake will work with a 70mm throttle body. The coupler may be very tight, however, it will indeed fit.
A loose clamp after the MAF can certainly cause the check engine light as it brings in air the car did not measure. For the fuel economy, you should see a slight increase, but it sounds like a good portion of that is the trip computer being optimistic. typically we see around 1-2 mpg gains on an otherwise stock car.
