    Review & Installation Video

Hey guys, Mike Wilson here with AmericanMuscle.com, standing here with the BBK cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. We’re going to combine this with a Bama race tune to see how much horse power and torque we get. But before we do that, we’re going to make a dyno run stock so we get some baseline horse power and torque numbers. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The BBK cold air intake kit is a great first modification that combines both power and style. By removing the factory restrictive airbox, and replacing with an open element reusable air filter, and a straight intake tube, you’ll notice increased horse power, torque, acceleration, and a throaty engine sound. And its bright, chrome finish, will definitely enhance the under-hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize your performance through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now lets do another dyno run, see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we can get. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit along with a Bama performance tune and our car put down 192 horse power and 218 ft/lbs of torque, gaining as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. We installed the BBK cold air intake kit and a Bama performance tune all in under an hours time using simple hand tools, and gained as much as 23 horse power and 32 ft/lbs of torque.

Improves Horsepower. This Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the stock air box and restrictive paper filter element in your V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response, while filtering out destructive power-robbing dust particles. This CAI pulls cooler, denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the V6 mustangs the BBK CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at BBK really did their homework to improve your pony's power using the stock tune.

Reusable Filter. BBK designed their high flow cotton air filter to be reusable, so there's no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Chrome Finish. The BBK CAI not only improves your pony's horsepower and acceleration, but improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with a beautiful bright chrome finish. You'll be sure to attract attention at all the car shows with this jewel under the hood.

CARB Certified. Best of all this BBK Mustang Cold Air Intake Kit is 50-state smog legal under Carb EO# D-245-14 (applies to 2005-2008 V6 only).

Easy Install. The BBK Cold Air Intake kit was designed to install easily with basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for the installation. All parts and instructions are included.

Application. This BBK Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2005-2010 4.0L V6 Mustangs and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer for operation.

Please Note. Due to the increased airflow and performance gains associated with this Cold Air Intake, a slight detonation or lean condition may occur if used with low octane fuels (Regular). If this happens BBK recommends switching to a fuel with a higher octane rating (Premium or Super).

Should I upgrade my exhaust before I put it in? I'm not planing on tuning it anytime soon A friend told me that I should upgrade the exhaust first, since it could damage the Engine, due to increased airflow.

    • The BBK CAI does not require a computer re-tune but it is recommended since you will have more airflow and could possibly have your car run lean. An exhaust will also help with the air flow but is not needed.

    • The BBK Cold Air Intake may cut down the quarter mile time depending on what tune it is paired with. This CAI weighs approximately 11 lbs.

Just install this unit on my 2007 mustang, after about 15 miles the engine light came on. I drove another 50 to home. I did notice when I got out that there was a smell like a new equipment burn smell. It was also extremely hot under the hood. Car never overheated and ran good so what is the issue and what do I need to get the engine light off. 1 answer
The check engine light turned on, is that okey? Will it cause any problems or is that something normal? I checked the codes and they were P0171 and P0174. 1 answer

I have bought this product and it is amazing but will it fit on a 70mm throttle body? 1 answer
Well for those wondering the engine light thing, tighten the belts around the throttle body and the intake, But also I noticed that my mileage got better, it says 105 miles till empty on the second to last bar on my dash board (last bar being the red one) and it previously would be 50-70 miles till empty when it got to that point, I don't know if that's right or not lol I'm waiting to run out of gas to find out 1 answer

Working out the kinks. But like their products

1st one the oil breather tube was in the wrong place.then the replacement came, and the mass air sensor port is upside down. Instead of sending back I'm just going to drill out the rivets and flip.air flow goes towards the throttle body..holes would not line up otherwise. And for some reason the support box should be a little shorter on the bend facing the grill. Just real tight ,but will make necessary adjustments. Should have just been a drop in,but yeah I had a few issues. Still a good product. Took photos of the mass air port.but didnt want to wait another week when I can just drill out 2 and add new rivets.

      Possible working problem with V6

Installed following directions. The vehicle sent lean code PO 171 and PO 174. Double checked the install several times, and continued to receive the same codes. To ensure I didn't have a bad MAF sensor, I cleaned and reinstalled the factory parts and all was fine. Reinstalled the BBK Cold Air intake and the vehicle sent the same codes. Contacted BBK and was told that I needed to run higher octane fuel. Not how this was suppose to work, sold as a no tune part with no disclaimers. Since it was installed, I needed to take the vehicle to an auto mechanic to verify per AM return policy. Spent $40 to have someone tell me what I already knew, this part did not work as promised. Really need to consider if the risk of purchase is worth it.

      NEEDS THE TUNE

I own a 2005 V6 and bought this mod last summer. I'm a college student, so when I saw the intake would improve power and fuel economy and didn't need a tune, I jumped at the idea and bought it. After installing it, I did feel a power gain. However, my engine soon began to run lean (down to 16 mpg Avg). My car also began to have an inconsistent idle. American Muscle should probably list a required tune, as optional tune sounds like false advertising to me. Ended up removing the intake to get the better mpg back. Otherwise, it's a great product and I wish my experience with it was better. Just buy a tune with it, otherwise you'll run into the same problem as me.

A tad tight but works like a dream

I gave this 4/5 stars for 2 reasons. The first being that it can be a giant pain to install. It’s not a pain in the aspect that it is complicated, but that when it comes to bolting everything down at the end, everything has to line up perfectly between the heat shield, filter, and intake itself. The last reason I gave it 4 stars is because it did in fact trip my check engine light even though it swears it won’t. Took it to a mechanic to clear the trip and it’s good to go. NOTICEABLE difference! You can feel the car “come to life” with the massive rush of air. The car shifts so clean now that I don’t even realize it is shifting into the next gear. I would definitely recommend this air intake for the “middle of the road” consumer but just be aware that it can get frustrating at the end.

      Easy if installed right

Product has worked great, when added to my throttle body spacer creates a nice little whistle. Also noticed less of a throttle lag, the rest of the lag is from an old fuel pump that also needs replaced. Only thing is that when installing, assemble the whole thing and then place it in the car. Will not fit if you assemble piece by piece

Be prepaired to tweak it a bit.

All in all a good product for the money, just be prepaired to do some adjustments. The air dam doesn't fit very well on a 07 Mustang, but the material is very soft and easy to bend with your hands to get it to fit properly. I needed to cut about an 1/8" off the rubber coupling and about a 1/4" off the long end of the intake tube to get it to fit the way I wanted. It would have worked without trimming it, but I wanted to provide a bit more clearance for the filter. Definatly helped throttle response and 'seat-o-the-pants' says there is a HP gain but only a Dyno would tell for sure. I did the 30 min battery disconnect and stepped on the brakes a couple times, no check engine light yet. One down side for those not mechanicly inclined is there were no instructions at all in the box.

      Could be better

The Pipe needs a bit more bend, and the filter shield needed to be worked a bit to fit correctly. The MAFS screws are in the bag with the hose clamps so careful when opening that. The filter is a super tight fit as to its length.

      Works great but...

The product works great and you can tell a difference in throttle response and power in the higher rpms, but my pcv hose would not fit on this intake. I have a 2006, but where its suppose to slide on and clip was too thick and wouldnt fit in my pcv hose. I just cut the original hose end off and put a bigger hose on both ends and clamped both sides, a little ghetto but it works.
