Review & Install Video

Hey everyone it’s Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and I’m taking a look at a product that will add a little more detail to the rear end of your ride. I’m talking about these MMD tail light trim kits, available in either matte black or chrome for all 2010 and up Mustangs. MMD is a company that’s been making some very cool and unique exterior appearance mods for all newer body style Mustangs. With the chrome mods your modern day Mustang can aspire to be like the muscle cars of the 60s, who shared the same look throughout the entire decade, however if the chrome is a little too flashy for you, then you might enjoy the matte black look, like we have installed on our 2011 GT back there. Both trim rings are constructed from a durable injection molded ABS plastic, and as I said earlier are available in a matte black finish, or a show-worthy chrome finish. The best part about these trim rings besides the cool retro look is that there’s no need for messy glue or drilling into your ride, simply clean and prep the area first using the supplied alcohol wipes, then remove the backing on each trim ring to reveal the 3M automotive tape, after that simple adhere to your tail lights, and you’re done. Install shouldn’t take you any more than 15 minutes. So if you’re looking to add a subtle touch of customization to the rear end of your ride, then you’ll definitely want to check of these MMD trim kits, available for all 2010 and up Mustangs.

Retro Inspired Styling. A set of Modern Muscle Design Matte Black Tail Light Trim Ring Bezels will really wake up the rear of your Pony to complete the retro inspired styling of the redesigned 2010+ Ford Mustang.

Durable Material. Constructed of a durable injection molded ABS plastic, these Modern Muscle Design Mustang tail light bezels are completed in a matte black finish for great looks and long life.

Simple Install. No messy glue or drilling is required for installation. This set of two MMD Mustang Tail Light Trim Bezels are designed to install simply with the supplied 3M doubled sided automotive bonding tape for a quick and easy installation.

Application. These Modern Muscle Design Matte Black Mustang Tail Light Trim Bezels are designed to be a perfect fit on any 2010-2012 Mustang, including the V6, GT, Boss and Shelby GT500 models. They are sold as a set of two, one driver side and one passenger side.

Can you put the smoke tail light covers over these? I am doing a custom design with my tail lights. I am putting the 2013 style decals on them then putting these matte black trims on them to cover up any unnecessary spots that would possibly show and give it a more cleaner look. Is it possible to do all this and the smoke tail light covers still fit over the trim? Thanks for your time and I hope I have given enough details of my question.

  • I don't think your mating surfaces will be enough to stay on for as long as you would want them to if I'm understanding your idea correctly. I have 2 Coyotes and I bought 2 taillight tint kits installed them on both cars and let them cure for 48 hours. Then for my Red Candy color car I had AM paint them gloss black and it turned out great. As for the other car which is Silver I used the Chrome colored trim rings and it sets the car off with the other mods picked to match. The trim kits cover any spots where the tint doesn't so they work nicely I'd say.

Remove trim How do I remove trim without damaging it? I tinted the lights and then installed the trim. Trim looks good, but tint doesn't. I was gonna order more tint but dont want to have to pay for trim again.

  • I have them too. I don't think you can because of the design and dimensions of the trim. Usually, for 3M, you can just use a heat gun and fishing wire to separate the 3M and the surface it's stuck to, but in this case that might be rather difficult. If you succeed, you will also need new 3M tape. Hope I could help. Have a good one.

Does this come with the tint? I was wondering if the product came with the tint or is it just the outline?

Mustang2011

  • This MMD Matte Black Tail Light Trim is just the outline portion and does not include the tint. You can purchase both the tint and trim using our Buy Together section though. They are a great complement to one another giving that blacked out look!

    Gives a nice "finished" look

Pros: Well crafted part, fits well Matte finish matches black factory vinyl or aftermarket decklid panel. Simple install Quality 3M adhesive tape Cons: Quality 3M adhesive tape (or the lack thereof) Doesn't quite cover the entire tail light (to the very edge) causing a slight "halo" around the tails when lit Somewhat pricey I saw these at the beginning of the year but couldnt quite justify the high cost at first..I waited and the price jumped $15-20! I was happy to see a week or so ago the price went back down so I went for it. The parts arrived on time in fine shape, packed in a box inside a box and each trim piece wrapped in bubble wrap with an alcohol wipe included in each bag. A nice full color instruction sheet was also included. Aside from difficulty removing the backing off the Adhesive tape, installation was easy, just line them up and press to fit..Make sure they are lined up well, if you press hard they WON'T come back off. I was quite happy until I took a closer look at the installed part. For some reason, the vertical dividers on each trim piece do not have adhesive tape on them, as a result, the dividers bow outward slightly and dont sit flat against the tail lamp! I'm not sure if this is cost cutting but AM or the manufacturer but it must be addressed, the gap is not only unsightly but it could possibly cause something to get behind (snow and ice perhaps?) and potentially damage the part. All this could be avoided by a few more strips of tape! Well enough of my rant, I went to the local auto parts store and bought a roll of the very same tape, applied it to the dividers on the other trim bezel and installed, it sits flat and looks great, After, I went to attempt to "fix" the first bowed bezel, That tape would not let go, tried even pressure, a heatgun, etc.. Not wanting to damage the part or the tail light, I gave up and very carefully placed a small piece of tape under each gap, the dividers sit flat now and looks fine. Now that they are installed, I'm very happy with the look, it helps to shrink the almost too large lights down a bit and the matte black matches the black vinyl insert on my trunk lid perfectly. If I have any complaint about the look it would be the the very edges of the taillight aren't covered. it looks fine with the lights off, but when they are on (at night) you almost get a slight "halo" around the trim. I may live with it, or just get some black pin striping to cover up the tiny red edge of the tail lamps. As negative as I may have sounded, I DO recommend these, It makes for a subtle but custom look and the matte black looks factory. I would just urge the manufacturer or AM to PLEASE add tape to the vertical portions..for what these cost, they can afford the tape. I would also urge anyone buying these that they add the tape if not included, you may be sorry if you dont.

    Matte Black Tai Light Trim

Anyone who owns a 2010 Mustang knows that the tail lights have this "slapped on" look because of the exposed flange around the base of the light. If you have the factory center blackout panel, then the tail lights look even worse. This matte black tail light trim solves the problem. The fit is absolutely perfect with no gaps or spots where the trim does not fit against the tail light. The matte finish is a perfect match to the finish on the factory blackout panel. There where no burrs or mold marks on the trim panels to make them look cheap. This is the look that Ford should be producing. 3M tape works fine for the installation.

    Looks great fits great

Very easy to install only took about 10 minutes, the only difficulty encountered was peeling the back off the adhesive tape. I recommend using a sharp knife don't bother with your fingernails. I read a lot reviews on here complaining that the vertical bars did not come with adhesive tape. I received mine on July 6 and they all had the tape so I guess American Muscle has fixed that problem. Other than that it looks fantastic and will give you a completed feel lacking from the stock tail lights.

This product make rear of car look great

Like the looks after installing. One sugestion, pick up some 3M tape (like what is on the part). Apply the tape to the vertical separations. This will stick those vertical sepations ddown on the tail lights. Otherwise, there is a large gap between the tail light and the new trim. Once istalled, they will make the back of your ride look great.

    Accents lights perfect!

If you have tinted taillights or just want to give your taillights a more aggressive look these do the job. They help clean up the tint edges and draw you eyes to the lights. I would suggest adding some 3M double sided tape to the vertical portions prior to install for a more secure fit.

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

After getting much feedback that adding additional 3M tape to the vertical bars on this tail light trim would make the fitment even better, we've made that modification and there should no longer be an issue! Thank you for your suggestion!

    Love the look

I took my time dry fitting these to make sure they would look symmetrical and would work well with my MMD Honeycomb Decklid Panel. Mine came with 3M tape on the middle parts, unlike some reviews I read, so I didn't have to buy or add any tape. I installed these with the trunk open and the trim even on the inside edge and top edge of the red tail light. Finished the look I wanted for the backend.

    Decent, but a bit pricey

I installed this product with no problem following the supplied 4 step directions. They also send you little alcohol wipes to clean the lenses prior to installation. One thing I did notice about this is that it does not cover all the way to the edge of the light, and it lets a little bit of the red light out when the lights are on. Also the hole openings for the reverse lights run a tad large, so you're going to have a gap at the top or the bottom, but at least it's all white. All in all I am happy with the product, but I wish the fit was a bit better.

Quick way to dress up your rear

Installation was a breeze. Make sure you clean your tail light lens before using the supplied alcohol pads. You'll be surprised at the dirt collected there. The masks fit the lens shape perfectly. I used a tiny drop of trim adheasive surrounding the backup lights since there is no double-sided tape there. A little pricey hence just 4 stars on "Bang for the buck" Still.......
