Why can't mechanical gauges be used in this pod?

SoCalGT

  • Mechanical gauges are going to be a little larger than electrical gauges and there for would not fit into this pod.

    Very nice looking

Overall I'm happy with this product. It sits perfectly in the cutout on the dash and looks great. The issue for me is that I also bought 3 Ford Racing gauges (the same ones that came in this in the 302 Boss Mustang) and they actually don't fit. You will need to remove the tabs from the rear of the pod so that the gauges can seat in all the way. Then in order to hold the gauges in place I decided to do a friction fit by wrapping the gauge with tape. The end product looks just fine, but I'm not sure where the installation issue lies. Also I listed the installation time here as one hour. That is the time to just install the pod on the dash. Make no mistake about it, to install all the senders and electrical will take much longer.

    Factory look, good visability

I wanted to add some gauges- and preferred the look of the Boss 302 gauge pod- however, I didn't care for the $1,000 cost of the Boss gauges. This piece gives you the ability to add gauges of your choosing in a "factory" location (vs. a "pillar" location). I went with SpeedHut gauges, which are customizable (I had them create Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, and Voltmeter gauges with the Ford Racing logo). SpeedHut gauges are intended to be installed as screw ins with a ring- which will not work with this pod. However, I got around this by installing adhesive weatherstrip in each opening, which allowed me to snugly screw the gauges into place. I couldn't be happier with the results- the gauges are very easy to see, and look very factory.

    Boss 302 Pod in a 2013 GT500

I am at the point of picking the gauges I want for the pod. I also have to get over drilling a hole in the dash for the wiring. The product does not come with instructions so be very careful if you are not mechanically inclined. V/r Tom

    BOSS 302 Gauge Pod

The pod looks and fits great on the dash. It doesn't interfere with your field of view at all. Be aware, though. I used FRPP gauges in mine, and only the 180 degree sweep gauges would fit properly. The full-sweep FRPP gauges were a little long with the wires attached and everything. Apparently the length of the gauges is different between the 2. Good thing i had other pods. :)

    Nicest Mustang Gauge Mount Yet

I bought this for my 2011 GT500 as an alternative to the pillar or vent mounts, which I am not a big fan of. This is a nice piece from Ford Racing and comes with the Gauge Mount and the mounting bracket. What it does not come with is instructions on how to mount the thing, though there are many forums that have the PDF from the version that comes with the Boss gauges. This fits perfectly in the recessed area on the middle of the dash, and appears to have been designed for the rear (forward facing) of the unit to line up with the defogger vent. Overall, I would recommend this if you are looking for a "factory" look and don't like the standard pillar mounts. The only real drawback to this piece is that you will need to either drill into the top of your dash - so there is no going back - or use automotive grade adhesive tape (which will probably also damage the dash). You will also need to remove the radio or the control bezel to gain access underneath the mounting point, but that is really not a big deal as it's just a pop-out piece after removing a few screws near the shifter.

    Gauge fitment

I ordered this gauge pod to use with short sweep electric cobalt gauges. They do not sit flush to the bezel. I solved this issue with gauge spacers, but I am curious what gauges would fit flush to the bezel? This could be good information to include in the product description.

One size doesn't fit even the Ford Racing gauges

While this piece is OK in appearance, it does not fit all the Ford Racing gauges even the electronic ones they recommend.. Some have shorter barrels while others are longer. American Muscle does not know this. Be careful when you order gauges to make sure they fit or you can re=engineer the piece by cutting off the internal mounting flanges and glueing them in using a more back mounted position. Lots of work and a little finesse but you do get the stock Ford appearance for the Ford racing gauges you want. (Voltmeter, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure). Oh, and this is not an amateur installation. Know what you're doint or get it professionally done. Tom

    boss gauge pod install

Took me some time to decide to use this pod or a pillar mount.I liked the location of the Ford mount the best but was a little intimated of the installation, don't be! I used the install guide from ford racing and it was a easy but some what time consuming install. I highly recommend this product for its visibility over that of pillar mounted gauges.

    Boss 302 Gauge Pod

Very good looking gauge pod and an exact match to interior color of dashboard. After market gauges fit perfectly. Installation was a breeze. Feeding gauge harnesses to pod took a little time but overall not that big of a deal. Very pleased with end result.

Way better than putting gauges on the pillar

This is pretty cheap when you compare it to the full BOSS gauge pack. I put a pair of Aerotechs and an analog clock in it. Installs easily; toughest part is getting the dash covers off, especially the passenger side. You can wire stuff into the fuse box - there are empty slots. Overall, looks great!

    2015s Need Gauges Too...

Since there are no readily available pods for the 2015-2016, I decided that this would probably work. I mounted this on the middle panel behind the center speaker. Install varies based on vehicle and gauges used. The 2015 install is actually very simple with the majority of the time spent installing senders and routing the wiring up into the dash. The pod fits right in with the 2015 interior and adds a nostalgic flair. As usual, the FR part fits and works as advertised!
