The 2010 Chevy Camaro has been a long time coming. Announced back in August of 2006, delays in production pushed the anticipated release date back to Spring 2009. But Camaro fanatics will agree that when the final product looks as good as the 2010 Camaro, it was well worth the wait.
This all-new Camaro is based on the acclaimed 2006 Camaro concept car and has been redesigned from the ground up, starting with the fresh and original Zeta automobile platform. This platform is highlighted by the positioning of the engine slightly behind the front axle, which provides for significantly better weight distribution.
And speaking of the engine, the 2010 Chevy Camaro will feature a behemoth: GM's LS3 V8 in SS manuals, which can crank out 422 HP at 5000 rpm and 408 ft-lbs. of torque at 4500 rpm. There will also be an LLT V6 model engine available on the LT and LS editions that can make 300 HP at 6400 rpm and 273 ft-lbs of torque at 5200 rpm.
Beyond the powerful engine, the 2010 Chevy Camaro offers a slew of other great features as well, including a fully-independent, four-wheel suspension, standard four-wheel disc brakes and variable-rate power steering. This new edition to the Chevy lineup incorporates an impressive safety system, especially the six airbag setup, which consists of head curtain side-impact airbags and new front seat mounted thorax side airbags, for all-around protection in the event of an accident.
The 2010 Chevy Camaro has already generated a considerable buzz, several months before its official release. As the official car of the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Chevy produced several concept models, including one partially designed by Dale Earhardt Jr. The 2007 film "Transformers" also included a character that transforms into a fifth-generation Camaro, and Philadelphia Phillies World Series MVP Cole Hamels was also given one in addition to winning the award.
