Improve ET's and low end torque. Are you looking to get more low end grunt off the line and lower ET's at the same time? Then look no further than installing a set of steeper gears in your Pony. Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are perfect for street, road, or race use.

Superior Quality. These Ford Racing 3.73 Mustang ring and pinion gears feature a super strong forged construction, CNC cut & lapped gear teeth, and a black oxide finish to resist corrosion.

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a new Speedometer Gear is an inexpensive way to fix this issue.

Application. This Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gear set will fit all 1986 to 1993 V8 Mustangs including the GT, 5.0 LX and Cobra models. A master bearing kit is recommended by most installers, especially on high mileage vehicles, see drop down option above.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

Great drivability

Tore up a 3.90 ratio set and put this instead! In my opinion felt better! Did not lose the top end like before!

It should have come from the factory with these

What a great gear set. Mine arrived quickly and with just about all the pieces needed to install it came with the gears. I had them installed at my local drive line specialist about a week ago and since my bearings where still in great condition, all that was needed where a couple of seals and some fluid when they installed them. I have a T5 and went from a 3.27 to these 3.73's and absolutely love them. My LX is a daily driver too. If you are going back and fourth on if you should get gears or not...just do it, you will not be disappointed.

Good buy for any guy (or gal)

Bought gears, install kit, and girdle a few weeks ago and had them professionally installed. Very happy with the gears and how well my car pulls now. If you want to make your car a little quicker without major cash, these gears are an excellent choice.

DONT FEAR THE GEAR! The perfect gear for a street car. Decent RPMs on the highway and crazy excelleration through first 3gears. Have them installed by an experiance tech who has done these before. Its hard to keep my foot out of it now!

    Just crazy acceleration!

Can\'t believe I didn\'t do this sooner! I went \"crazy\" and threw in a set and the acceleration is just unbelievable. I had it professionally done and had headers/exhaust system installed and changed air intake at same time. This is the best thing I\'ve ever done and it\'s like driving a whole different car. Even the gas mileage is far better than stock. This car is not a \"pony\" anymore. It\'s a \"Ragin\' Bull\"!

    Gears, Gears

Don't fear the gear is correct. I couldn't of said it better. Gas shouldn't be a factor when your driving around in a V8 it's obvious. To those who are concerned don't be. I was too and I must say it was worth the labor. Gas mileage is nothing compared to what you get out of these. If you like to go faster...faster then swap your stock ones for these. I did and already I am regretting not getting the 4:10's. 1st and third never felt better. Thanks AM

Meh, they are ok, I should have gone with 4:10's but they will do for now, acceleration did increase, but I was expecting a little more ooomph

    3.73 Gears

I must say, this is an excellent buy. I personally had a shop install these gears for me. They're charging me $600 for the process, but I also had the whole rear-end rebuilt while they were installing these gears. It's recommended to rebuild the rear-end if your fox has over 60k miles on it. I also added a LSD (The differential) and 31 spline axles, for a little bit extra strength (They're a direct fit; something to think about if you still have them small 28 spline axles). Either way, these gears are spot on for the price. I noticed faster acceleration, and it was also a bit easier to break the rear tires loose, even with the Limited Slip. Definitely recommended for the price!

Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears 3.73s

Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are a little more costly than some of the others out there, but you get what you pay for. Install is straight forward, and the rear end is nice and quiet. Best bang for the buck as far as performance gains go.

    FMS 3.73 Ring & Pinion

Due to new 408 project the FMS 4.10 gears were just to much with 660 rwtq and a 5 speed. The step down to 3.73's was a way to go lighten the shock to the tires. Just another great quality product for the folks at American Muscle you guys never let me down!

    A must have!!!!!!!

Went from 3.31 to 3.73, these gears really woke up my 4.6 and also enhanced the power range of my Ford racing cams. My mpg only dropped 1.5 to 2.5 depending on my foot !!!!!!

    Bad Alignment

The gears appeared to be well manufactured, but after trying 24 shims to 56 shims in order to get them to align properly, it was evident that they would never work without producing whine or chipping teeth. I have also installed 3.90 gears on another Mustang with no problem whatsoever; I'm buying Motive gears tomorrow because I trust them a good bit more. I recommend not buying these gears unless you know of some way to keep the teeth from not chipping when the gears will only align at the outside rim. I personally don't feel comfortable with the cruddy alignment I had. Also, beware of putting the gears on your car. Just by rotating the gears after putting them in my gear box to see the wear pattern in the paint, I voided my ability to get a refund from AM. I've had other good products from AM, but unfortunately, this isn't one. I recommend Motive.
