Pro Cal Tuner I purchased the K&N filter a month ago. Can I purchase just the tuner?

  • Unfortunately, we don't carry the ProCal tuner available by itself. It would have to be purchased in a kit.

Is it normal for me to get a CEL after switching back to stock tune? I then switched to performance tune again but I still get the CEL, says "crankshaft position". The CEL wasn't there until I tried to switch back to stock tune and it's a 2011 GT with stock engine and just K N air filter.

  • You may get a check engine light when you switch back to the stock tune if you have some modifications done to the car. Some mods will require you to tune the car to function properly. Though, you should not be getting a Crankshaft Position code when you install a performance tune. I suggest getting in contact with Ford directly to see if the tune set the code or if something is possibly faulty.

  • Hi,This Ford Performance K&N Air Filter with ProCal Tuner can be used with a throttle body spacer but not a cold air intake because a CAI replaces the factory air box that this drop in filter goes in.

  • It should not matter which axle back exhaust is installed on the car. The axle back exhaust is going to be strictly for sound, this will not affect your performance.

Sophistication Only An OEM Can Provide

I have have used several aftermarket performance tuners and tune vendors over the last several years and can only say one thing; they all lack OEM sophistication and have unwanted side effects...especially in automatic transmission cars! Whether it be idle abnormalities, shifting concerns, poor mileage, or even downright failure of the transmission, I have endured them all! I was attracted to this product after reading the product description and explanation of aftermarket tuner deceptions in the Ford Performance catalog. I am delighted to report that there are no disappointments with ProCal, and the pure driving satisfaction that my "Stang" delivers has increased exponentially! The 5.0 Coyote really needed that 60 lb/ft torque boost at the lower RPM ranges to round out the power delivery experience! Over all the throttle response and auto tranny performance are more crisp and satisfying, plus you take no risk in screwing up your warranty. As an added bonus there are several other very useful and valuable functions included with the ProCal that make it a great value for the money! I also got a 2 to 3 mpg mileage increase as was reported by other users. Since I always use a catch can and only run 93 octane Shell Gasoline, I experienced none of the pinging reported by some other customers. Admittedly there are some talented aftermarket tune vendors out there, but none can have the sophisticated engineering, RandD, and test instrumentation of the OEM manufacturer and this product proves it!! I am FINALLY totally delighted with the results of this tuner and kit, Thank You, Ford Performance!!!

    Worth It !!

My setup: 2014 GT Automatic with GT-500 Mufflers Street Driving 93 Octane gas - I always drive in Sport Mode Performance and Feel: One of the main differences between this tune and the stock tune is that the Pro-Cal tune puts more throttle action in the first 1/4 or so of pedal action. At first you might think this would be a problem but it is very helpful. If you want to pass someone or just get moving in a hurry, you don't have to dip down so far on the gas to get what you need. It's great. And I can really feel the added torque in the lower RPM range, which is where you would normally be in a street driving setting. I'm amazed at how much acceleration I can get without even downshifting. I haven't fully explored a full high speed pass but so far I am very happy with the performance. The car is a rocket ship to begin with, this just makes it an even faster rocket ship. Pinging: After the install I could hear very light pinging, if I put the engine under load while traveling at let's say 40 mph or so. I could only hear it with the windows open and with the sound reflecting off a nearby wall or building. With the windows closed I never heard any pinging. What I did hear was very light and only lasted a couple seconds. I switched the calibration to "Octane Adjust" and I have not heard any more pinging. And I honestly think it runs better at this setting. Shifting: I have not noticed any difference in shift points, at least not in normal driving. I normally drive in Sport mode, and in this mode the car will stay in a lower gear for a while if you get on the gas and then let off. With the Pro-Cal tune it stays in the lower gear for an even longer time. Sometimes I like that, sometimes I don't. When I don't, I just push the shifter to "D" so I get the upshift and then I go right back to "S". Installation: Installation is a snap, just follow the directions. I used a battery charger during the install, just for insurance. Conclusion: I think this is well worth the price, and it's by Ford so I am confident that it won't hurt the engine. I'm not worried about the warranty - I haven't blown up an engine yet and if I do it's my own fault. I might add that I also installed the Ford Racing Oil Separator at the same time, which is a very nice product. It looks like it came with the car. So the bottom line is, you want this!

Ford Racing K N Air Filter with ProCal Great vlaue

This product has turned my GT/CS into the what it should have been from the factory. Instant throttle response, no more throttle lag and now plenty of power down low. Gets off the line super quick with nice low end torque, works well with my 3.73 rear. Ford Racing had the unit to me the next day after registering the ProCal on line at FRPP website. A great experiance with both american Muscle and Ford Racing.

    Excellent warrantied mod

I went with the Ford Racing tuner for warranty reasons. I know its gains aren't claimed to be as great as other aftermarket tunes but between the warranty and the security of knowing it came from Ford Racing, I had no problem moving in this direction. I installed the KandN air filter before the tune since I had to register the ProCal online and wait another business day for it to arrive. An interesting observation was that even with just the filter, I noticed a very slight increase in throttle response and a slightly louder intake growl, which makes sense since it flows better than the stock filter and has less material to dampen intake sound. I had the ProCal installed at my local Ford dealer, which is required for the warranty. I was charged $70 for the install, which took about 40 minutes. I drove fairly conservatively for the first 30-50 miles or so, figuring the computer might need time to adjust. After that, the improvements have been very noticeable. First, you notice the throttle response. The throttle feels excellent and the slight mushiness of the stock calibration is gone. Getting off the line in first gear (6 speed manual) is surprisingly smoother, as is the shift in to second. These were unexpected but welcome improvements. Perhaps the most significant difference is the low and midrange punch. This tune raises torque by 60 lbft at 1500 rpm, and when out on the road it is very easy to feel the extra torque. Its not like adding a supercharger, obviously, but for a simple tune I was very pleased. Raising the rev limiter from 6900 to 7200 rpm has helped prevent me from hitting the limiter in lower gears, and the top end pulls a little harder, although the difference isn't as great as the low and mid-range improvements. Also, as a previous review noted, the car engine brakes more strongly, for what thats worth. Now I am very sensitive to the details and sensations of my car and driving, so I may notice the differences more than other drivers might. I don't want people to read my review and expect crazy, massive gains, but considering this is a reliable, safe tune, I am very pleased with the results. I would recommend this to anyone looking for warranteed performance. Oh, and I have not had any pinging or ticking as a few earlier reviewers had experienced.

The instructions says Ford "recommends" a battery charger if your car is showing low voltage. My car was not showing low voltage so I didnt see the need for the battery charger. My car is now being towed to the Ford dealership to a computer reflash because the programmer ran an error.

Not only do you get the performance improvmeets from the premium fuel calibration but you end up with a very useful tool that can change axle ratio and tire size along with the ability to do koeo/koer and pull codes from the other modules. Be aware that a similar kit is also sold with gt500 mufflers for a great price and improved sound quality (I ended up buying the mufflers separately and paying a few buck more for not knowing).

Nice Performance boost, in a safe mild tune

This Tune is the way the Mustang should have come from the Factory Stock. It eliminated the surging at 5mph-10mph a light throttle. Stalling in Reverse is Eliminated. There is a nice bump in the 1500 rpm - 3000 rpm range. The car pulls smoother. And the redline is now higher, Overall a nice tune,

An amazing product, easy and fast to install with very impressive results.Even better you can use the tuner to read and clear trouble codes. Its a shame that Ford doesn't do this tune at the factory instead of us having to purchase it ourselves. If you own a 5.0 coyote you need to install this.

Noticeable throttle response and power increases, but annoying pinging.

This tune was out on my mustang with 2k miles on the odometer. Only other mods are an aftermarket filter and GT500 exhaust. The throttle is much more responsive. There is certainly more power, as now with a hard shift, I can lay rubber all thru 2nd. Seat of pants difference is very obvious. The downside is that there is audible pinging. It's not all the time. It seems like there's no specific time or operating condition that the pinging occurs. Could happen with a roll on at 3000rpm or suddenly ping a few times under 100% throttle at 5500 rpm. It supposedly doesn't hurt your motor but it still bothers me. I wish Ford Racing would fix this.

Nice overall boost, should be the factory tune!

This is a safe tune. It is Ford's own performance tune. So, don't expect massive gains. No, you can't run a CAI or an offroad mid-pipe with this. Yes, you can change your rear gear ratios and tire/wheel sizes. You will get a tune with sharpened throttle response, overall more power, a clean pull to the elevated redline and a VERY healthy dose of low end torque. This tune is all about power under the curve. With 3.31 gears and an MT-6, this tune destroys the tires through 3rd gear. I can only imagine what it will do when I swap the gears out for 3.73s. It makes the soft on the bottom Coyote wake up at low rpms, where you often need a boost. The top end charge is very solid. This is an FRPP tune, so I trust it. I know my motor will live and provide me with years of fun service. Highly recommended.

    Torque is the key

This tune really wakes the car up in the lower RPMs. My 5.0 used to really pull its strongest from about 4500 on, but now it really kicks in at 3k on. It gives the car a lot more of that neck snapping, seat of the pants feel. Torque is what makes a car fun on the street and this tune provides plenty of it. Expect smoother shifts and easier clutch management. I have noticed about 2 mpg better, but its hard to tell because of the way this tune makes me drive the car.

This product does exactly what it states. A mild street tune that eliminates the skip shift function and delivers smooth precise throttle response. I had found from the time I purchased my 12 GT with MT that I would constantly stall the car in reverse. This tune has taken care of that. Now it is so smooth that I don't even have to give it gas when releasing the clutch. Take off from a stop is also much improved. Could be my imagination but the exhaust just sounds better also. Very easy to install with the included intructions. No negatives with this product at all. This product cannot be beat for the price. The option of returning the Pro Cal tuner to Ford Racing for a $75 refund is also great. I will keep mine though as I love the diagnostic functions included in the programmer.

    I am impressed!

I have a manual '11 GT 5.0 Premium Convertible with 3;31's and although many consider this a conservative tune I couldn't be more pleased.I can definitely feel the punch in all gears at all r.p.m.s and have experienced no w.o.t pinging as described by a few.Throttle response is immediate. Also,Ford Racing has stepped up and slapped a new 3/36 warranty on it!(only if installed by a dealer)Buy it,I think you'll be happy with it. ProCal and K&N for my 2013 Mustang GT Premium

When you purchase this product you will receive a piece of paper with directions on how to go on Ford Racing and register your car. Make sure to have your vin and also the P/N number available from your computer. You will also be asked to select an option from a litny of MG numbers. I apologize I do not remember the exact one, but if you call Ford Racing Tech they can help. Now... once the Procal arrives be sure when you install it you read the directions carefully. I started out with my driver side door open and it gave me an error. Once I was in the car and closed the door the error went away. All lights, radio, etc. have to be off. I noticed right away when I stepped on the gas that the car was different for the better. Better throttle response with more torque. Also, when I started out I had 197 miles until empty. After programming I had 207 miles until empty. The K&N filter cannot be discounted. I put it in first without the tune and the car responded better.

    Night and day difference!

You would be a fool to void your warranty just to have a different tune! Its amazing how restrictive the factory tunes are on these cars!!I I put this tune on my 2014 Mustang GT Premium (coyote) and I had to relearn how to drive it! The front end lifts up in the air on hard take offs. The RPMs seemed restricted before and now the engine isnt "held back" at all (which can be a pain since its much easier to redline now). I've received a 3MPG increase on both city and highway according to the dashboard menu. The car actually engine brakes now. Before I would let off the gas at any speed and the car would jerk back and it doesnt do that anymore. The low end torque boost is very noticeable. All in all this tune is worth every penny if you want to keep your warranty.

    Cheap Thrill!

I installed this tune on my 2011 GT after having had experience with this tune on my '06 GT. Both times now I find myself grinning when I leave the garage and head out from home. This is a great addition to any GT Mustang for a very reasonable price. It takes about 20 minutes to install and you can feel the change immediately. To me my Mustang feels "tighter" as the shifting is more "crisp" and I have better throttle response down low. Even my wife has commented on how the performance seems to be better! I highly recommend this product. It comes from Ford so I trust it more than anything else that is out there.

Great way to enjoy city driving

I work for a Ford dealer and have driven many mustangs so I knew what to expect when I bought one. I fell in love with the coyote instantly but like most stock settings it was definitely built for the average driver, then a customer came in with this tune installed and it just seems to eliminate the minor disappointments down low and improve the overall feel of the car. I have much bigger plans for the car eventually but for now it's a great improvement in the overall driving experience and despite the dyno numbers not being as impressive as some, this tune is something you will feel the first time you drive it.

    Great Factory Backed Tune

First off I want to say that I got really fast delivery of the part and the registration was a piece of cake. I had my local Shamaley Ford dealership install this for me and only charged me $32! I have piece of mind knowing that this tune is backed by Ford and emissions legal in all 50 states. When I first had it installed here in El Paso the 93 tune is set first so I did experience some engine knock. I only get 91 octane gas and the 5000 ft elevation does not help, so I enabled the octane adjust option and wow!! I felt a nice gain especially between 1500-5000 RPM's. Have not had any engine knock since and the car has so much accesible torque and the top end feels nice as well. All in all it was a great choice since I needed to retain my warranty. Big thumbs up to Ford Racing and!!!

    Pro Cal Tune

Easy install, took only 30 minutes on my 5.0 with MT. Safe as it is backed by Ford racing. With Roush axle back exhaust noticed an improved throaty sound and MUCH smoother shifting on the lower gears (1 and 2 especially). Not sure why the 5.0 is not tuned this way from the factory! Likely not the tune for racing, but perfect for daily street use.
