Can this air scoop be used in conjunction with the Hotchkis K-Member Crossbrace? Can the Hotchkis K-Member Crossbrace - Manual (05-13 GT, GT500) be used in conjunction with the Ford Racing Boss 302 Transmission Cooler Air Scoop (11-13 GT, BOSS)? From photographs taken by customers, it looks like they would interfere with each other.

Will this fit a 2014 V6 Manual? Yes it will, probably better than it fits the GT's and Boss'. Bought it on spec and sure enough it fit perfect.

helimech2

  • The Ford Performance Boss 302 Transmission Cooler Air Scoop is specifically designed for the GT's and the Boss's. While it may fit on a V6, Ford Performance does not guarantee the fitment for different models than designed for.

    Simple and Effective Cooler

I really like this transmission cooler, it's very simple but also very effective. I track my car during HPDE's and before installing this I could tell the transmission was getting hot because it would be hard to put the transmission in gear. I would miss 4th gear quite a bit and getting it into first after a session would be almost impossible. After I installed this cooler those problems went away on track. I definitely recommend this if you track your car. Even if you're not heating the transmission it's cheap insurance to make sure you never do. Installation is very easy, it took me longer to put the car on jack stands than installing this scoop.

Effective, but with one puzzling design issue

With ambient temperatures right at 66F (bottom), I ran a short mountain course (1500 ft. elevation gain) prior to installing this item, and then used an infrared gun on the fins at the bottom of the transmission. Then I ran the course again after installation. The gun registered a 28F drop in temperature. Admittedly not a very rigorous test, but the indication is that it works. I recommend the product. One puzzling issue, however -- although perhaps it's confined the GT: The front of the scoop overlaps the engine oil pan drain plug, meaning that on oil change, lubricant is guaranteed to fill up the scoop and spill out (particularly since you've probably jacked the car up in front to get at the plug and filter). A set-back of an inch in the leading edge of the scoop would have ameliorated the issue without compromising air flow.

    Worth getting for the track.

Since the trans doesn't have a temp gauge, you can only logically deduce that channeling air to the trans cooling fins will have a positive effect. Definitely not necessary for street only, but worth the money if tracking your car. The added benefit is the bar the scoop is attached to is also the front lower control arm brace, so it's only an extra $55 to add the scoop (don't order both like I did). If you have the GT Track Pack option you already have a lower control arm brace, so if you're handy at metal bending and welding, you may want to fashion your own scoop.

    You just know it works.

Even tho it is one of the easiest installations you will have, it is one of the most important for the racer that pushes his/her pony hard all day long like me. I live in south Texas where the every day temp is at least 97+ with a humidity of 60+ so ya its hot. That transmition needs some cooling and this is the easiest and cheapest way to do that. Its definatly a must have!!

    5 min install good insurance

This was the total bolt in part, you can actually install this while the car is on the ground if you have a long enough arm. My car had the a-frame brace on it so all I did was remove the 4 nuts slid the brace off and installed the scoop all with the car on the ground. Fits perfect

Boss 302 Trans cooler air scoop

Easy to install on your Mustang, It will hang a little low about a inch, but on my stock 2013 Mustang GT there is no ground clearance problems I can go over speed bumps with no scrapes or dents to the Trans cooler scoop. It looks really cool and at high speeds I think it really does cool the Trans down some. I hope this reveiw helps...

    Cooler temps are always better!

This was the most simple install. Took 5 minutes. I also did notice a drop of about 10 degrees in my transmission fluid. Of course it depends on how fast you are driving...I did however notice that the transmission has 4 slots where the clutch and flywheel are located, so it should keep them cooler as well. Great product!

    peace of mind

I compared the shelby one and this boss 302 one. This one looks more functional driven and blend in with rest of car really well. Also the bar seems to be higher strength than the blue shelby one. MT82 needs ALL THE HELP it can get, so this is cheap insurance.
