Description
Tremec Magnum. Is your high performance Mustang making more power than your factory manual transmission can handle? Then you need to upgrade to the Ford Racing Tremec Magnum T56 6-Speed Manual Transmission. This Tremec T56 is the perfect replacement for your old TR-3650 and has a torque capacity of 700 lbs./ft. making it ideal for high-performance applications such as a 5.0L Coyote engine swap.

Built Ford Tough. The Ford Racing Tremec Magnum T56 Transmission is equipped with a 26 spline input shaft and a 31 spline output shaft and features provisions for mechanical and electronic speedometers. This Tremec Magnum T56 Transmission is capable of handling up to 700 lb-ft of torque.

Gear Ratios. 1st 2.66; 2nd 1.78; 3rd 1.30; 4th 1.00; 5th 0.80; 6th 0.63

Application. The Ford Racing Tremec Magnum T56 6-Speed Manual Transmission is designed for use in the 1999 to 2004 Mustangs equipped with a small block Ford 4.6L SOHC/DOHC or 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine.

Installation Notes. This Tremec T56 transmission may require a shorter driveshaft, a modified crossmember/trans mount and other minor modifications for proper installation.For SBF 302/351 Windsor engines use Quicktime bellhousing (part# 8031), for 4.6L/5.0L/5.4L modular engines use Quicktime bellhousing (part# 8080).

will this transmission be good for my stock 4.6 My automatic transmission in slipping, so I'm thinking of upgrading to thistransmission, but not sure if it would be a good idea since my mustang is dead stock?

  • Bad idea. This transmission is geared for high horsepower cars, they will be able to overcome the tall ratios that this trans contains. Your car will struggle to accelerate in stock form unless your rear differential ratio is changed. A Tremec 3650 would be more suitable for your application.

What is the "lowest" gear ratio you would recommend for this to be efficient? What read gear ration would you recommend for best performance and drivability?

  • With a transmission like this one it really doesn't even matter to be honest. Unless you are going custom this is the best transmission for any Mustang. I would prefer a longer ratio. The 6th gear is used only as an overdrive.

Short Shifter included? Wondering if this transmission includes a short shifter and if so what brand, and if not, which short shifter would be the proper fitment?

  • Yes it does have a short shifter. Almost all high performance tremec Manuel transmissions come with short shifters from the factory

    Love Tremec transmissions

    This is a great transmission. I love the way this thing shifts and its super easy to drive. I have not had a 6 speed before and was a little concerned about getting into 5th but after driving I have no worries. If you buy one of these make sure you can source a clutch fork if going on a cobra.

    I would recommend this trans to anyone, it shifts very smooth. Gear shifts are crisp and effortless. I have about 1000 miles on mine with no complaints. It comes with a shifter base but you will need a handle for it. It does require an 03/04 cobra bellhousing, crossmember, and shortened driveshaft, or aftermarket equivalents of those. For the price I feel like you cannot beat the bang for your buck with this trans.

    Tremec Transmission

    They don't tell you that there is no warranty, after about 300 miles started seeing leaks on the ground, called American Mucsle, refeered me to Ford Racing, no warranty because it's consider racing equipment

    T56 Magnum for new edge mustangs

    I have not gotten to drive the car with the magnum installed yet, but I have completed installation. There are some modifications needed to make this swap happen in a new edge. Anyone not already running a Cobra T56 will need a stock Cobra bell housing, crossmember, clutch fork, possibly even clutch cable setup would be best. In addition, the crossmember holes will need to be slotted 1/4" or so since the T56 magnum sits differently in the car. Your driveshaft will need to be shortened (measure for this once installed) roughly 1", maybe more, and a 31 spline yoke is required, stock cobra is a 27 spline piece. Anyone planning on running a twin disc clutch will need an adjustable pivot ball, and modifications to the clutch fork will be required for clearance. The Magnum already has a couple slots machined in the face of it for the clutch fork to sit in, but it is still not enough room for a twin disc. I know this sounds like a ton of work but it's really not bad. I am told the swap is completely worth it! I will update after I have completed trans break in mileage with driveability etc.
