Knowing coil packs didn't do much performance wise I bought one for the fuel economy. Has worked good so far. Expectation met.

Up to 18Hp What other modifications do you need/suggest to get the full 18Hp. ?

  • This was one of the first mods I did to my pony. Really simple install. I added 2 things; Performance Distributors Livewires 10mm Spark Plug Wires and NGK Iridium IX Performance Spark Plugs . I could tell the difference immediately! I hope this helps!

Is the GMS Coil pack any better than the Ford Factory Coil pack? I was told that the Factory Mustang Coil Pack puts out as hot a spark as the high priced Performance Coil packs...is that true? If so, will buying the GMS Coil Pack really make any difference?

MrPresident

  • The factory Ford coil is a very good piece, for very stock motors. When you start modifying, adding more fuel and air, you need more spark. The GMS coil puts out about 60,000V whereas the factory Ford coil has an output of around 20,000V. This will also be a great upgrade for any Mustang equipped with a V6. Don't forget to upgrade the wires and replace the spark plugs at the same time. More spark, more power, better fuel economy. Hope this answers your question and thanks for choosing American Muscle!

Which coil gives out the most power? Out of the three coils AM sells, power wise they are uncomparable. The GMS can give up to 18hp more, another says it gives out 45000 volts, and the Accel has NO number to compare.

Fuzzyglory

  • They all allow more current flow than stock. All the specs are very close so go with Accel coil. It's less expensive and allows just as much current as the GMS. I put the accel on my wifes V6 stang and opened the spark plug gap on the Denso Iridium plugs an extra 5 thou . It works very well. better gas mileage , More power.

Spark Plug Gap Do you have to change the spark plug gap when u install the gms coil?

Soma742

  • No, they should be fine as is. If its been a while, I would change the spark plugs and wires though.

    2007 V6 mustang

Ok guys and girls. I just installed this coil. It took me about 20 minutes. You need to have this on your mustang. Save the money, put it on your credit card do whatever it takes but add this on your engine, your pony will love you for it. Just FYI I also upgraded my spark plugs and performance spark wires, including body throttle and CAI from BBK, not to forget my pypes headers and pypes cat back exhaust. Ohh by the way if you really want to get a bang for your buck i recommend Bama Performance tuner. All this included you will not need a V8...my pony sounds and runs like a V8 and i do not break the bank with the gas stations. So back to this coil..i just added 14 hp in about 20 minutes. American Muscle....Thank You!

    Easy Upgrade

This was very easy to install. Not counting the new plugs and wires I did, replacing the coil took me about 10 minutes all together. The most important thing to remember is the proper sequencing of the wires. Use the original you are removing for reference as they print the cylinder numbers on it. If not the sequence is simple. From top left its 1-2-3-4-6-5 going clockwise. Can't beat 4 base screws and being right on top of the block for easy access. Felt the power increase right away and have already noticed a gas mileage increase. Good deal all around.

    Great item

I had been waiting to order a Scream'in Demon coil pack and the day I decided , the Granatelli was added to the American Muscle site,,knowning the reputation of their products it was a no brainer for the added confidence for only a few dollars more. The fit was perfect and good performance , with the Street Thunder wires and NGK Iridmum Plugs.

    Decent Improvment

Took less than 10 minutes to install and was super easy to do. I did the upgraded taylor wires and NGK spark plugs (from AM) along with the GMS coil. I didn't notice a power gain and I haven't taken my stang to a dyno, yet! The idle has improved though and I hope to see more hp and tq gains from it once I put in the 3.73 gears, BAMA tune, and x-charger supercharger. Overall the product is only a compliment to a nice car, if you are buying this for the 18hp and you don't plan on supercharging your stang then don't waste your money, instead get a CAI and a tune.

    A Must Have!

I got the GMS Coil, along with the Taylor Street Thunder wires and NGK Iridium IX Performance Spark Plugs, and no regrets. Easily one of the best "bang for your buck" kind of mods you can do. Installation wasn't bad. Just make sure you take a bunch of before pictures of the spark plug wires and you'll be fine. After installing everything, my stang has a MUCH better idle. Can feel a little more power off the line, but it's really noticable when accelerating in higher gears.

    Ehh!

I ordered this wanting to get more power an gas mileage not expecting a whole lot but every upgrade counts especially on a v6. It was an easy install (make sure to label wires when taking them off) I got this in combination with bigger spark plug wires an have had it for a few months now. It's upped my mpg by 1.5 to 2mpg an a SMALL increase in acceleration. I'd say it's worth it but only with new wires.

    Waste of money!

I bought this coil thinking it would give me more power, but when I installed the coil, my pony shorted out, so I installed the stock coil back in the car and it seem to work better, the gms coil is a waste of money, You have better chances with a stock coil instead!

    GMS Coil

Had a coil pack failure so I decided to try this GMS Coil pack. Was already using a high voltage one and alone with a lot of other add on's A high voltage Coil Park is a must. I do not notice the 20 horsepower increase but start ups just a hit of the button. Getting ready for a 500 mile trip so I will see then if it really improves my gass mileage.

    Good upgrade

The coil, combined with 10mm LiveWires and NGK platinum plugs, seemed to bring life to the 2010 V6 with 75k miles. Did give a quicker throttle response and a bit more pep to the non-ecoboost V6. My son is plenty happy with the increase in performance.

    Great Quality!

After 161K miles on the car, I decided to switch out the stock spark plugs, wires, and ignition coil for new NGK Iridium Performance Spark Plugs, Performance Distributors Live wires 10mm Spark Plug Wires, and the GMS Coil. Felt a pretty good difference when I took it out for a test drive! Just upgrading the coil claims a 18HP, the whole set probably did 25hp and better gas mileage!
