      Review & Installation Video

Justin with Today, I’m going to be taking a closer look at the BBK 70 mm throttle body for all ’05-’10 V6 Mustangs. BBK is one of those companies who loves Mustangs just about as much as we do, and it shows with all of their quality EFI products for late-model Mustangs. This throttle body is going to increase airflow by replacing your smaller factory throttle body with a much larger diameter BBK. When you compare the smaller factory 65 mm throttle body to that 70 mm from BBK, you can see the difference that will allow for more airflow into your engine. In terms of quality and construction, this throttle body is a solid piece. It’s been CNCed from high quality aluminum for a perfect fit and features double sealed bearings, stamped throttle linkage, o-ring throttle shafts, and more. You can run this throttle body bone stock without a tune or an intake and still make more power over your baseline. However, this is one of those mods that works great in conjunction with other supporting mods, especially with other cold intake systems, as some of you on the site have pointed out. Another thing that you on the site have pointed out is that this product installs easily in about 2 hours, even for some of you first-time wrenchers out there. You will need to transfer over both your TPS sensor and your throttle body motor to the new BBK throttle body. After that, it’s simply reinstall in reverse order, plug everything in, and you’re good to go. So if you’re looking to make the most out of your 4 liter V6, then you’ll definitely want to check out this 70 mm throttle body from BBK Performance.

        Not worth it

Gonna be honest which this isn't American Muscle's fault and they did refund me but as a guy who has been modding his daily mustang 4.0 this part literally ruined my week it took me by myself 20 mins to install I idled the vehicle for 45 mins to MAKE SURE it would self recalibrate i rev'd it no weird noises took it for a spin and the angry wrench o'death showed up and the throttle literally died I limped my vehicle to my mechanic figuring I did something wrong $250 dollars later bbk reinstalled with new throttle body motor and sensor took it for a spin and AGAIN this happened long story short I just got my car back with a new Ford OEM throttle body and motor which noticeably runs better then the used and abused one I bought when I pulled off the dealership a year ago but to the point NO it's not worth $350 and the headache of NOT WORKING and trying to get it to work just stick with the OEM or buy a new OEM take it from a guy who mods his 4.0 whenever he gets the chance no part I or my mechanic has installed has EVER put my car in limp mode.

        4 2007 V6 - NickG Installation Time: Afternoon

Good power, needs a better install guide.

I like the product alot but the supposed simplicty of the install is missleading you will need a voltmeter to assure the correct voltage is being used so your car doesnt shut down when it experiences too much. BBK has a full install guide on their website which was much needed; once i had it figured out its only a 30 minute install but overall i am happy. Much more pull at the top end; but a very annoying whistle that i couldn't get rid of. Although to be honest the sound has grown on me. Not plug and play.

        UPDATE: Worth every me

This is an update to the BBK 70mm throttle body on my '05 V6. The fit was perfect and performance gain was noticeable. Unfortunately, I could not resolve the off throttle engine surging. I contacted AM support and was sent another unit. It caused engine surging worse than the previous throttle body. I installed a new TPS and throttle body motor ensuring the voltage setting was correct. Still had engine surging. I researched the problem and none of the solutions worked for me. I even requested a tune from BAMA and was told a tune was not needed. Sadly, for the second time, I returned the throttle body to AM and reinstalled the original throttle body. Additional research revealed this is a known BBK problem for the 2005-09 V6 without a known solution. Yet, it is still being sold as a performance upgrade. If this model of throttle body works for your 2005-09 V6 it is pure luck of the draw. If AM or BBK comes up with a solution I will try the throttle body again but for now I rate the AM support team 5 Stars and BBK 1 Star.

        5 2005 V6 - JonT Installation Time: Afternoon

        Worth every me

I cannot say enough about this BBK throttle body. Getting on and off clutch is super smooth compared to the factory original. Despite removing the factory throttle body and giving it a good cleaning, the factory setup could not keep pace with the BBK. I do believe by itself you will not see much of a difference. However, mated up with a CAI, Bama Tune, H-Pipe dual exhaust from a GT, performance plugs, wires, and coil pack really wakes up the 4.0. I now have smoother and quicker acceleration, a deeper engine rumble, and that sweet gentle whistle that let's you know this is no ordinary v6 4.0. I have also noticed an increase in fuel economy. All great pluses for me. I will suggest going to the BBK website and downloading the installation instructions. At the time of my review, the AM instruction link is not working.

        Great part!

Such a great part should’ve bought the throttle body a while back, you feel the difference from the stock throttle body to the 70mm throttle body. Only thing that I would say sucked was that the instructions from bbk are not that good but take your time on it don’t rush the install!

        EOD Sleeper!

My 2010 V-6 as others have 210hp. But about 179 at the rearend. After putting on this throttle body and my cold air intake with my magnaflow dual catback exhaust. I had it run up on a Dynometer. Now I have a true 240hp and 240 torque at the rear. Used FORD’s Motorsports tuner to recalibrate the engine

        Almost like a new car!

I paired this with a BBK cold air intake and let and wow. The car now pulls hard past 5000RPM which previously peaked around 4000. Downsides are there is now some engine surge and engine cuts off after 6000RPM which never happened before. I'll play with my Bama Rev-X tune to see if those issues can be fixed

        5 2010 V6 - GiovanniS Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Definitely worth it!

I love how it makes my car let more air in and making it go faster and quicker! I would recommend though getting a new motor for it because my car was out for a week and the first mechanic didn’t know why but my second mechanic knew right away it was the throttle body motor. It works great and I also recommend a tune because once I got the tune my car became way faster and quicker off the start! I love it and would reccommend!

        Noticeable gains

The sound is amazing. You can really feel a difference in throttle response and exhaust note seems to be a little better. If I had to estimate horsepower gains I’d say 8-14 hp

        Noticeably Improved Throttle Response

Easy, quick install. Throttle response is improved. I decided to install this with a throttle body spacer since I had one lying around all it took was some longer socket cap bolts. I never used my throttle body spacer with the stock throttle body because I couldn't stand the annoying whistle that it made. With this larger throttle body paired with a spacer, there has been no noticeable whistle.

Does this require a tune I was wondering if this required a tune and also if this would fit with the Airraid CAI?

      • No this does not require a tune. Although a tune would really help you get the most out of this modification. As far as the CAI goes, a lot of people combine this with the BBK CAI and have had no problems. Some people even add a throttle body spacer and have no problems but a very snug fit.

Will this work with a Throttle body spacer I have a stock throttle body with a Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer at the moment. Will the 70mm work with myy current setup or will I have to ditch the throttle body spacer.

      • The Airaid throttle body spacer is intended for use with the stock throttle body only, due to the smaller bore sizing matched with stock. When you upgrade your TB to the 70mm, the spacer will actually be more restrictive and block your potential new power. I'd suggest upgrading your TB to this 70mm to get better performance and simply remove the spacer. The TB upgrade will be a better power upgrade over the spacer. Hope this helps!

How do you adjust the voltage I don't know how to turn the brass screw

      • Hello! While switching over electronics there is a set screw in the new throttle body. You must loosen that and then assemble. Make sure to check the voltage before you take your stock throttle body apart. Then check and adjust with new throttle body, assembled and plugged in, to the same voltage as previous output. Then disassemble and tighten set screw then reassemble. If you take a look at our install guide it explains step by step.
