Justin with AmericanMuscle.com. Today, I’m going to be taking a closer look at the BBK 70 mm throttle body for all ’05-’10 V6 Mustangs. BBK is one of those companies who loves Mustangs just about as much as we do, and it shows with all of their quality EFI products for late-model Mustangs. This throttle body is going to increase airflow by replacing your smaller factory throttle body with a much larger diameter BBK. When you compare the smaller factory 65 mm throttle body to that 70 mm from BBK, you can see the difference that will allow for more airflow into your engine. In terms of quality and construction, this throttle body is a solid piece. It’s been CNCed from high quality aluminum for a perfect fit and features double sealed bearings, stamped throttle linkage, o-ring throttle shafts, and more. You can run this throttle body bone stock without a tune or an intake and still make more power over your baseline. However, this is one of those mods that works great in conjunction with other supporting mods, especially with other cold intake systems, as some of you on the site have pointed out. Another thing that you on the site have pointed out is that this product installs easily in about 2 hours, even for some of you first-time wrenchers out there. You will need to transfer over both your TPS sensor and your throttle body motor to the new BBK throttle body. After that, it’s simply reinstall in reverse order, plug everything in, and you’re good to go. So if you’re looking to make the most out of your 4 liter V6, then you’ll definitely want to check out this 70 mm throttle body from BBK Performance.

More Power. Increase the amount of airflow in to your Mustangs 4.0L V6 engine for more horsepower and improved throttle response with a BBK 70mm Throttle Body from AmericanMuscle.

Quality Construction. This BBK Mustang throttle body is CNC machined from high quality 356 aluminum to ensure OEM quality and a perfect fit. Features like OEM die stamped throttle linkages, double sealed bearings, and o ringed throttle shafts make this throttle body one of best on the market today.

CARB Certified. Best of all, this Throttle Body is 50 State Legal under CARB EO Number D-245-17.

Application. BBK's 70mm throttle body is designed to be a perfect fit on all 2005 to 2010 4.0L V6 Ford Mustangs.

Please Note. This BBK brand throttle body reuses the stock throttle body gasket.

Does this require a tune I was wondering if this required a tune and also if this would fit with the Airraid CAI?

        • No this does not require a tune. Although a tune would really help you get the most out of this modification. As far as the CAI goes, a lot of people combine this with the BBK CAI and have had no problems. Some people even add a throttle body spacer and have no problems but a very snug fit.

Will this work with a Throttle body spacer I have a stock throttle body with a Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer at the moment. Will the 70mm work with myy current setup or will I have to ditch the throttle body spacer.

        • The Airaid throttle body spacer is intended for use with the stock throttle body only, due to the smaller bore sizing matched with stock. When you upgrade your TB to the 70mm, the spacer will actually be more restrictive and block your potential new power. I'd suggest upgrading your TB to this 70mm to get better performance and simply remove the spacer. The TB upgrade will be a better power upgrade over the spacer. Hope this helps!

HP? how much horse power will this increase when paired with a bbk cold air intake?

        • About 15 Horsepower based off of feeling. I have not had a chance to dyno it yet.

How do you adjust the voltage I don't know how to turn the brass screw

        • Hello! While switching over electronics there is a set screw in the new throttle body. You must loosen that and then assemble. Make sure to check the voltage before you take your stock throttle body apart. Then check and adjust with new throttle body, assembled and plugged in, to the same voltage as previous output. Then disassemble and tighten set screw then reassemble. If you take a look at our install guide it explains step by step.

So I have had this throttle body for over a month and I started getting trouble codes from day one at first it went into safe idle mode but i turned off engine and restarted it and code went away , two days later it came back and stayed looking at my code reader it was saying possible tps so I replaced the new one looked different I checked and it was a direct oem replacement but still didnt work so I assumed the TPS was defective so I got another OEM one from a different supplier and same thing so now I have deducted it to be the throttle body or possible Tune I am contacting Bama performance to have them rewrite me a new tune but is it possible I didnt get the voltages adujusted right and now since I have messed with the actuator spring and put onto my 70mm can I put every thing back on my OEM one and recheck voltages and try again ? if not is there a resource I can talk to to find out what the voltages should be? 1 answer

            EOD Sleeper!

My 2010 V-6 as others have 210hp. But about 179 at the rearend. After putting on this throttle body and my cold air intake with my magnaflow dual catback exhaust. I had it run up on a Dynometer. Now I have a true 240hp and 240 torque at the rear. Used FORD’s Motorsports tuner to recalibrate the engine

            Almost like a new car!

I paired this with a BBK cold air intake and let and wow. The car now pulls hard past 5000RPM which previously peaked around 4000. Downsides are there is now some engine surge and engine cuts off after 6000RPM which never happened before. I'll play with my Bama Rev-X tune to see if those issues can be fixed

            Definitely worth it!

I love how it makes my car let more air in and making it go faster and quicker! I would recommend though getting a new motor for it because my car was out for a week and the first mechanic didn’t know why but my second mechanic knew right away it was the throttle body motor. It works great and I also recommend a tune because once I got the tune my car became way faster and quicker off the start! I love it and would reccommend!

            Noticeable gains

The sound is amazing. You can really feel a difference in throttle response and exhaust note seems to be a little better. If I had to estimate horsepower gains I’d say 8-14 hp

            Noticeably Improved Throttle Response

Easy, quick install. Throttle response is improved. I decided to install this with a throttle body spacer since I had one lying around all it took was some longer socket cap bolts. I never used my throttle body spacer with the stock throttle body because I couldn't stand the annoying whistle that it made. With this larger throttle body paired with a spacer, there has been no noticeable whistle.

            Didn’t work

I had a mechanic install this and it sounded so much nicer and you can definitely tell it had some horsepower but when I went to drive it my car wouldn’t go passed 20 mph. So I had to put the stock back on. My fuel injectors weren’t pushing enough, but if it works for your stang definitely worth the money.

Nice item, pricey and can have issues

The installation is not as easy as AM leads you to believe - at least not for me. AM doesn't have any installation guides - the links on the product page all lead to deadends. Be sure to go to the BBK web page for accurate instructions. It does require a voltmeter for install. It fits up great, nice product, no check engine light - but I have a problem with idle speed surging that I haven't been able to fix yet. Not a lot of guidance from BBK on the subject. HP and throttle response gain is noticeable.

sounds better, feels better, goes faster

Noteworthy, minor gains in speed, and response/pickup. Mechanic had some issues adjusting based on the CAI. Threw a engine light and wrench at first, and mechanic sorted it out. Will tune to make sure Im getting all I can out of it. Seems like a good deal for a V6, time will tell. Installed with new coilpack and spark plugs w wires.

I have to say I’m very happy with this upgrade. It’s very easy to install. It took about 45 mins. I have a 2007 Ford Mustang V6 convertible with a Ford performance cold air intake with a rev-x Bama programmer.

            Buyer beware

It may work or may not. In my case it did not. Throttle body kept causing my mustang to go into limp mode. I even wasted money on a new programmer being told it would fix the issue. American Muscle was understanding about the throttle body and I was able to return it.

            Hit or Miss

I bought one, installed it, voltage was right, then I changed my battery and boom car wouldn’t go past 1 rpm, had mechanics look at it just to tell me I needed a new throttle motor cause the codes would say “stuck”, now I’m selling the darn thing. Worth it? If you like the whistle sound yeah other than that just save up and get a better upgrade like an exhaust
