Review & Install Video

Hey, Stephanie with here with my brief overview of the Magnaflow Catted Tru-X X-Pipe that is available for your 2011-14 GT. Magnaflow really needs no introduction, as they're one of the most trusted names in aftermarket Mustang exhaust, but for those of you new to the game, I'll just let you know that Magnaflow's slogan is the same as their philosophy. They're all about quality, power, and sound, and they're known around the world for producing products that live up to this philosophy. So with that being said, I'll jump right into this catted x-pipe for your S197. So, this is an x-pipe which means that it's going to create a flow pattern for the exhaust gases. It's going to force them to cross and, therefore, even out. The evenness of the flow would create a streamline effect, and it's going to result in a little bit louder, raspier note than an h-pipe would and a little bit more power in the rpm range than the h-pipe. It's also a standard or stock length x-pipe for use with the factory exhaust manifolds or aftermarket shorty headers. For guys with long tubes or you guys out there that are planning on running long tubes, you would need the short x-pipe, of course. Getting down to the finer details, you'll notice that Magnaflow uses 100% stainless steel for the materials along with mandrel-bent 3-inch tubing that maintains a consistent diameter throughout the pipe even at the bends. Now, this is once again important for that flow that we were just talking about earlier, and it's going to have an impact on the torque and horsepower gains that you'll see with this upgrade. We all know of the difficulties and, to be honest, downsides of keeping your 'stang street-legal, so Magnaflow has included these high-flow ceramic cats with the x-pipe. These cats are far less restrictive than the factory cats and they're also lighter, but they will help you pass inspection and emissions. As far as install goes, since we are talking about an x-pipe here, don't expect anything out of the ordinary as far as work goes. In fact, getting this x-pipe bolted up should only take about an hour or two using basic hand tools. So if you're in the market for a new mid-pipe for your S197, then be sure to check out Magnaflow's street-legal Catted Tru-X X-Pipe that is available here at

Improves Exhaust Flow. Magnaflow's X-Pipe uses free-flowing mandrel-bent piping with a Tru-X "X" style crossover and high-flow catalytic converters to improve exhaust flow and to produce significantly more horsepower and torque at the rear wheels than the restrictive stock catted H-pipe.

Race Car Growl. This free flowing Magnaflow Tru-X X-pipe for the 2011 to 2014 Mustang's not only increases power, but with its modern "X" crossover pipe design it also adds a crisp raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust.

Magnaflow High Flow Construction. Magnaflow uses 3" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing that has a consistent diameter throughout the length of the pipe, even at the bends to provide excellent exhaust flow that results in more power at the rear wheels. The included high flow ceramic catalytic converters far out perform the restrictive stock cats to provide a significant increase in horsepower and torque.

Application. This Magnaflow Tru-X Catted X-pipe is designed as a direct bolt-on for the 2011-2014 GT Mustangs with either aftermarket shorty headers or the stock manifolds installed.

Just what I was listening for...

I have this catted x-pipe mated to a mangaflow competition catback. This combination provides the exact sound I was looking for: deep, snarly, and growly without being raspy.

So what pipe would I need to get to continue to run to the axel and to the muffler. Does am sell the rest of this pipe? As I looked and cannot seem to find any that would run from the x on to the muffler's.

  • To connect this mid-pipe to the axleback exhaust, you would need over axle pipes which we have from Borla item #397308 and LTH #34476 which you can find at the links below. Borla - LTH -

I currently have Flowmaster Outlaw axle-back mufflers and the drone is already insane at 2k RPM (sounds great outside the 1700-2150rpm range). Will these make the droning better, worse, or have no affect? Overall volume is not a concern, just the droning.

  • Compared to the stock mid pipe with the stock catalytic converters, this pipe may add a bit of drone and rasp to the exhaust as well as make it louder.

Can it be fitted with the original catback?

  • Yes, this will fit with your original catback.

is this DOT legal in CA?

  • You need to worry about the CARB #(California Air Resources Board). It will say something to the effect that these cats are 50 states legal and there should be a CARB # in the description.

My cats have a hole for an O2 sensor, do these have them aswell?

  • Hi, Yes this Magnaflow Catted Tru-X X-Pipe features a set of holes for your Mustangs down steam O2 sensors.

I do not want to re use my O2 sensors, I assume that I will need 4 new sensors or does this setup only have spots for two O2 sensors? If I only have two O2 sensors won't a code come on? If the code comes on I could get a tuner to disable them but would like to know... I have a stock 2011 5.0 MT82 (Magnoflow straight through muffler deletes). Thanks!

  • The Magnaflow Catted Tru-X X-Pipe comes with (2) bungs, one for sensor 2 on bank 1, and another for sensor 2 bank 2; Sensor 1 on both bank 1 & 2 will still be reused on the manifold. If you do not plan to use the o2 sensors, they will still need to be installed in the bung's and they would need a tuner to alter the reading so a check engine light will not illuminate. If you do not have o2 sensors, you can plug the bungs, however, a tuner will still need to be used to alter the readings.

This exhaust system does exactly what is advertised by AM. I noticed an improvement in the way my car accelerates. It sounds fantastic and I have had nothing but compliments. It is also not so loud as to be disturbing to neighbors. It sounds really good slowing down although even better accelerating of course. This exhaust system has the perfect blend of rasp and growl with no snaps and back fire whips. The free flow cat weigh less than the factory cats too. Although on the expensive side I have no regrets and am of the belief that this exhaust system will only enhance further mods down the road.

    Must Have!!

Added this mod to my arsenal and I must say it was well worth the price. The exhaust note is straight race car growl, I've had nothing but positive comments and neck breaks when I drive by. So much more beef and flow compared to the stock pipes. Quit putting this purchase off, you won't regret it!
