Review & Install Video

Hey, guys. Stephanie with AmericanMuscle.com here here with the MSD Launch Master 2-Step Rev Limiter for 1999 to 2010 V8 Mustangs. The MSD 2-step is going to be for the '99 to 2010 owners out there that are looking to create a consistent, reliable launch on the track, strip, or even on the street. This launch control connects to the factory coils and it works by cutting spark, not fuel, so it's a good option for anyone looking for a safe and effective launch control for their Mustang. A 2-step or a launch control or a stutter box is a simple design, but it's helpful to the performance enthusiast that wants to have more consistent performance. The 2-step will give you the ability to define your launch RPM that the device will maintain for you. This allows you to hold the car at full throttle while preparing to leave the line, so you don't have to worry about manually holding your launch RPM and watching the tree at the same time. If you have a forced induction setup, this allows you to build boost while you're waiting to leave. If you have an NA setup, this just makes it easier for you to dial in that perfect launch RPM where you have a smooth, consistent launch with maximum power and no wheel hop. And, of course, that's gonna lead to faster 60-foot times at the strip, or pushing you into the first corner faster, or hell, maybe you just want to have fun on the street. The MSD 2-step works by cutting spark, not fuel, which is what you want. It is possible to induce a 2-step situation by cutting fuel, but anyone in their right mind wouldn't do it that way. It's dangerous and it's not a good way to do it. So the device will intercept the spark signal from the ECU and it will modify it, which actually leads to a misfire to hold the car at the desired launch RPM. The MSD is easy to set launch RPMs. There are two dials where the big RPM range that moves in 100 RPM increments, so you can really set your launch RPM where the car performs the best. The other nice thing about this is that it has an LED that will show you when the launch control is active, which is not only helpful on the line but it's also helpful for the street cars that want to use this. As far as price, the 2-step from MSD is going to cost you a little over $200. So the install here is not difficult. You do have a little bit of room to determine how you want to wire this in, but the general idea is to get your direct fit harness plugged into your coil wires, mount the module, and run a ground. You need to run the wiring into the cabin and tap into the clutch switch, so you're looking at some light wiring, nothing too technical, though. Overall, this is a one-wrench install on our scale here and should take you about just an hour to complete. Wrapping things up here, the MSD Launch Master 2-Step Rev Limiter offers a great way to improve launches. It's easy to install and it works by cutting spark, not fuel, for a safer rev control. You can check it out more online right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Consistent Holeshots. Consistent launches and quicker 60-foot times are the goal of every drag racer and now you can have both by simply installing a MSD Launch Master 2 Step Rev Limiter in your V8 Mustang.

Easy To Set. The MSD Launch Master Rev Limiter is easy to set with two built-in rotary dials ranging from 2,000 to 11,900 rpm in 100 rpm increments. When activated the rpms will be held at the set rpm range allowing you to keep your eye on the "Christmas Tree", not the tachometer.

Easy To Install. The MSD Launch Master 2 Step Rev Limiter connects directly to the factory coils for an easy straight forward installation and features a handy LED that shows when the launch rev limit is active.

Application. The MSD Launch Master 2 Step Rev Limiter is designed to fit 1999 to 2010 modular V8 Mustangs with a coil-on-plug system. Including the GT, Bullitt, Mach 1, SVT Cobra and Shelby GT500 models.

    Great purchase MSD 2 step

I installed on my 2010 mustang gt. Under the hood hook up was a breeze I went through the sound tube hole and connected to my clutch wire. Have it set at 3000k and launches beautifully every time

    Trouble shooting guid!

Does exactly as stated but instructions suck. Searched high and low for detailed instructions before busting out the DVOM and doing it myself. 2007 gt your clutch switch is a ground switch use grounding wire. Follow the instructions to the "t" then if you ran into my issue ( no 2step just a miss fire) then swap the harness around. Red and tan to gray and black, reverse it from instructions( they say if light doesn't come in to reverse it but my light would not turn off) after the swap and tapping into the green/ gold (I think, NOT the black one ) wire it works great. The switch your looking for is the one closest to the floor the one above it is for crude control. Hope this helps someone, worth the money but instructions suck

    MSD 2 Step

Happy with this purchase. Installation instructions were ok. Got confused with which wire goes to clutch switch, instructions said to use white with blue, but it was solid blue that goes to clutch switch. The 2 step works great though, can't wait to use it at the track.

    Works and sounds great

This two step is great it does everything it is suppose to. The only problem was the instructions. Great instructions until you get to the wiring it to the clutch activation switch. I was on the phone three times with msd trying to figure it out. Turns out there are two switches on the clutch and it is not the obvious switch on the bottom it is the one on the top. On my 07 gt it was the grey and white wire on the top switch.

    MSD 2-Step

The MSD Launch Master works great. It was an easy install it is almost a plug and play setup. The hardest part of the install was getting the blue or white wire, depending on what type of switch you are using, through the fire wall. I used the blue wire because I am using the clutch switch to engage and disengage the 2-step. This really helps with consistent launches. I road race my mustang but like to take it down the strip every now and then so i wanted something to help me get consistent times. and consistent times goes a long way when it comes to bracket racing. The MSD 2-Step has an aggressive sound to it. It fires faster then most 2-Steps. The best thing about the MSD 2-step is that it cuts spark not fuel!!! I found other places that sell this same part but i got it from AM because there customer service is Great. I was able to buy it knowing it WILL fit and WORK PROPERLY with my model mustang. Thanks AM.

automatic mustang with a msd 2-step

Product installed easy, looks clean and works great. Mine was installed on a auto mustand gt and had to use the white and Blue wire from the msd 2 step and wire it to the bottom brake light switch. there was two wires in the brake light switch, the green wire with the red stripe (power) and the solid green wire (dead). You want to wire it into the dead wire which would be the solid green. This allows me to turn on the 2 step with the activation of the brakes, then load the car up to whatever rpm it is set at, and let you foot off the brake and let it rip! For street driving I have the msd 2 step on a on/off switch for safety.

if you want perfect launches this is the ticket

Great part. Only problem was that there was a manufacturer defect. The unit would not turn off which would only allow you to reach rpms that were set. So I called msd they put me threw some test and told me the unit was bad. They said to contact American muscle for warranty replacement. They had me another shipped out the same day with a paid return shipping invoice. No hassle or questioned asked besides the tech from msd I spoke to. Put me on hold for a couple minutes and everything was done. Great customer service

    Not just for Stick cars

It isn't for everyone but if a consistent launch is what you’re looking for this is the ticket I have had great results. After putting in gears and a stall convertor in my 06 automatic GT I tied the 2-step and my line lock into a transbrake button isolated by two toggle switches, which allow the line lock to be used without the 2-step for your burnout. Then just flip the second toggle on to power the 2-step, stage press the button and you have the poor man’s transbrake!! (FYI – no one to date makes a transbrake for these automatics that I am aware of) Put the go pedal on the wood, leave with the button and be ready for the fun. The car leaves consistent every time and has as hard as any stick car I’ve seen. Oh yeah a good sticky set of drag radial or slicks are a huge must.

    MSD 2-Step

The MSD 2-step is a very nice addition to anyone who wants better launches at the track or on the road. It was a slight pain to install because of the cheap wire splice connectors they give you. Make sure to tighten and loosed the connector several times to get the needle to puncture the wires your splicing into. This is a great product, a little pricey but you can tell the build quality is nice. It also gives your car a more race car inspired sound because of the spark cut. Overall good product, make sure to read the instructions thoroughly and you shouldn't have any trouble getting it installed.

    MSD 2 Step

For the most part it was an easy install, I was stubborn and didn't want to take off my intake so it made it a little more difficult to get to a couple of the coils, the only issue that I had was that the instructions are a little difficult to understand when it comes to which wire to use for the activation switch, but with a little bit of research online I found out to use the white and blue wire to splice into the clutch activation switch. I love the sound of it, necks break whenever I use it! >:)

    Launchs are much more consistant

The msd launch master is a great buy at the price it is so simple to install it is really just plug and play and very easy to adjust the only hard part of install is wiring up a relay so you can keep your clutch safety switch other than that with any mechanical skill you will have no problems A+++ on the msd launch master
