Is this the same as the prepainted scoop? The shape of this item looks slightly different than the prepainted one. Are they the same, and will either one fit the 2013 GT premium yet? Thanks. This one looks more like the aftermarket shaped Roush scoop that is coming in November, which is what comes up on the Build your Battle Car site at the Ford website.

MuscleCarWoman

  • Yes, this is the same hood scoop as the painted version. Unfortunately, neither will fit the 2013 as they had a different hood than the 10-12 models.

Can this fit with the hood on the 05-09's? I keep thinking this would look awesome on my 06' and wondering if anyone has ever tried it on a hood from an 05-06 to see if it would work? My thoughts are that I don't see why it wouldn't work and that it would actually be pretty sweet. Please let me know. I have a feeling you have a few 05-09's sitting around AM that you could set this on to check... Thanks! Jay-

  • No, the 10-12 year stock hoods are curved slightly differently from the stock 05-09 hoods.

Will 12" Lemans Stripes work with this scoop? I'm thinking of putting this scoop on my 2011 V6 convertible and I have the 12" matte black lemans stripes on the car. Will I be able to apply the stripes to match over the scoop? I have enough striping since I have the roof section left from the kit. Thanks!

MPC22

  • YES ,THEY WILL WORK , THE ONLY PROBLEM IS MAKING SURE TO TAKE YOUR TIME WORKING THE STRIPES DOWN THE SIDES OF THE SCOOP. CURVES CAN BE VERY TROUBLESOME. WHEN I PUT MY SCOOP ON MY CAR ,WHICH HAD STRIPES ALREADY ON, I DECIDED NOT TO STRIPE THE SCOOP,WHICH GIVES IT MORE VISABILITY,AND I HAVE RECEIVED A LOT OF COMPLEMENTS. GOOD LUCK , PAPPY

Can this hood scoop be made functional? Is there any way this can be used like a ram air hood to cool the engine & all the under-hood mechs?

HotShot

  • All scoops can be made to be functional if you willing to create air vents in your hood. As sold, these are decorative only and not air functional.

    Review from Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    great scoop, bad packaging

First the good. The scoop is the same as the factory scoop. The color matched great and it looks awsome. Its held on securely by double sided tape and 4 screws, which brings me to the bad. Its supposed to have 4 screws, 4 foam insulater pads for the screws and 2 large template strips just like in the video. Mine had 2 screws, 2 pads and the 2 strips were the short template strips that are used when mounting the pedestal spoiler, so they were useless. Who ever packaged this product should be fired! A 1 hour job took me 2.5 hrs cursing and fabricating new template strips and a trip to the hardware store to buy 2 metric screws. Again, the scoop itself is awsome. If you get all the hardware and correct templates it should only take an hour.

    Review from Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    If looks could kill

very aggressive look, and paint was spot on. I did not have any issues with the templet, as others have stated. I noticed many people were complaining about the gap in scoop closes to windshield, so I decided to add two more bolts in the scoop closes to the problem areas. I figured your drilling into your hood anyways, so what's another two holes. It wouldn't be a bad idea, if this was factory. Anyways, I didn't just want the looks of the scoop, so I decided to make it somewhat functional as well, to let heat escape at idle, and cooler air in while in motion. This may not be for everyone, due to the fact of more hood drilling, but I like to think outside of the box. All and all I am satisfied with the product, and the outcome.

    Review from Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    I lie the general look.......but!

The hood scoop started out looking pretty good, even though the edge where it meets the hood is rolled to much, it makes it look like, exactly what it is....a piece stuck on top! I could live with that, but now after a few months the corners are coming loose and sticking up even more, leaving unacceptable gaps between it and the hood! The problem is...it's screwed on! You can't just take it off and send it back without having holes in the original hood. I'll add some pics here soon. I will have to countersink some metal screws into the four corners, then putty, sand and paint to make it look right. My suggestion is to pass on this, and buy a whole hood or nothing!

    Review from Hood Scoop - Pre-painted (10-12 GT, V6)

    Looks Good

Scoop looks good but, the template and instructions are a lot to be desired. When You stick the template to the underside of the scoop make sure it doesn't stick to well as it will tear the template strips when removing the scoop to drill the holes in the hood. Use a 1/4 inch drill bit as the 3/16 is to small because the screws won't even fit in the holes, also the larger bit will allow some adjustability. Paint and finish was good but did have some flaws although it is impossible to make it flawless for someone like Me. There was some compound around edges that I removed before installation and the corners of the 3M tape had the film rolled back which I also removed and replaced with new 3M tape.. All in all the scoop looks killer on My 2012 GT/CS.

    Great look

Color match was perfect. Template strips broke during install. I used painter's tape instead. Worked well. 3/16" was too small of a hole for the provided screws. 1/4" worked nicely. When it was all said and done, I was surprised I was able to do this myself. End result is great!

HOOD SCOOP FOR 2012 GT - YELLOW BLAZE

Purchased my hood scoop in February 2014. Delivered without damage as packaging was excellent. Decided to have a detailing shop install unit with me. The installer had experience installing hood scoops and I am glad I spent the $80. Template was very simple but the installer was not concerned and install took under an hour. You need 2 people to perform this install. My Mustang is yellow blaze and the color is unique. Color looked bang on, but once installed and with sun glasses I can see a slight difference. The variance could also be due to the fact that my car is 2 years old and original body paint has changed slightly.

    Pre-Painted Hood Scoop

I recommend this product. The paint is a great match, easy to install, and changes the look of your Mustang for the better. Much better. All parts and directions were packaged nice and install was easy. It's nice looking over that hood now and keep everyone guessing what you've done below. It gives the front end some bulk which, in my opinion, the OEM Mustang hood lacks. Add the chin spoiler, pre-painted, and you've got a sharp look with just bolt on parts. I'm very happy with the pre-painted parts. They're a real good paint match.

great looks but some fish eyes in paint

this looks great . got it in and put it on that night . forget the 3/16 holes the bolts will not go thruogh them . go ahead drill bigger holes and save your time. I loved it until I saw it the next day in the light and saw the fish eyes in the paint and the gaps in the rear corners due to uneven tape. I would have taken it off and sent it back but it was already stuck to the hood with holes drilled and i wasnt going to ride around in a new mustang with holes in the hood.. look at the hood scoop in sun and under lights to see how the paint really looks.

    One Sag

Love the additional depth this gives the hood and overall appearence of the car. There was only one flaw and it noticed it after it was installed; there is/was one sag on the rear drivers side corner. Minor enough to not catch it during initial inspection but nagging enough (right in front of me while driving) to have a shop sand it down and top coat it with clear. Overall I love the additional look, fit was excellent, and installation was simple and straight forward. Thank you again AM...

    Bargain deal!

Been putting it off forever, but when I saw they Pre-painted, free shipping & on clearance, I couldn't pass it up. Packaged extremely well, finish & paint are excellent.... EXCEPT for the fact that you should have the painters spray at least an inch in on the bottom of the scoop. Left me with a primer ring around the scoop. Luckily I had some touch up that was kind of close to Kona Blue, better than grey primer. Paid attention to the previous installs about drilling a tad wider than needed. Worked fantastic, put her on, started the screws, had my son & son-in-law hold it off the hood till we peeled the backer from the 3M tape. Most excellent, makes a big difference in looks, especially since I dumped the pony stripes off last week!!
