The Mustang was completely redesigned in 2005. Its exterior appearance borrowed design cues from the best of the Mustang lineage, and closely resembled the design of the 1960s Mustangs. The wheelbase of the new Mustang was stretched six inches over the old model. The retro theme is continued in the interior. The numbers on the gauges are 1960's style, and the air vents are ringed with chrome. One of the most interesting features inside the Mustang is the optional MyColor customization technology. This unique feature allows the user to customize the colors of the gauge cluster; 125 different color combinations are offered.
The base Mustang comes with 16" alloy wheels; the premium package adds 16" chrome alloys with spinners, the Shaker 500 sound system, power driver's seat, and leather upholstery. All Base Mustangs are powered by the new 4.0 liter SOHC V6, which produces 210 horsepower and 240 ft-lbs of torque. The standard transmission offered is the Tremec T-5 5-speed manual, but an optional 5-speed automatic is also offered.
The 2005 Mustang GT comes with an all-aluminum 4.6L SOHC V8 which has 3-valve heads and makes 300 horsepower and 320 ft-lbs of torque. The aluminum construction reduces weight for improved balance and handling. Visually, the 2005 Mustang GT comes standard with 17" wheels and a rear decklid spoiler. The Mustang GT can be had with either a Tremec TR3650 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Premium Package adds the Shaker 500 audio system and sportier seats.
