Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m going to be reviewing Pypes high flow cat system for all 1986-2010 Mustangs. These cats are going to be a great compromise for those of you who are required by law to run some sort of catalytic converter system yet still allow you to ditch those ultra restrictive factory cats for something that’s going to flow a lot better, making for more power and sound versus your stock cats. These are going to also be great for someone who might currently be running an offroad X or H pipe, and just wants to tone down that rasp a little bit. This system from Pypes features durable 409 polished stainless steel construction and a very small footprint. This is going to be great for those of you going with a custom exhaust setup, or those of you who might be lowered an inch or two, and won’t have to worry about scraping these over speed bumps. A very important thing to point out with this particular system is that it features a ceramic substrate material on the inside. This system should only be used if you’re naturally aspirated, if you’re forced induction, then you’ll definitely want to check out Pypes’ other system, which features a metallic substrate on the inside, which is far more suitable to handle those higher exhaust gas temperatures. Getting the cats installed should only take you about 2 hours using these two supplied clamps. However, depending on your exhaust setup, you might need to go to your local parts store, and just pick up a couple more clamps. So if you’d like to go to an off road X or H pipe but your local laws just won’t allow for it, or you just want to get rid of some of that excessive rasp with your aftermarket exhaust, without hurting your power, you’ll definitely want to check out a set of these affordable high flow cats from Pypes Performance.

High Flow. Are you looking to free up your restrictive stock exhaust, but are required by law to run Catalytic Converters? Then AmericanMuscle has the answer you need in the form of Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit.

Easy swap at the track. Every car enthusiast knows that catalytic converters suck the lifeblood - horsepower - out of your engine. If you're running a Pypes modular x-pipe style configuration for track / racing purposes, these cats give you an easy way to be street legal when you leave the track.

Durable construction. These Pypes Mini Catalytic Converters are built from polished 409 stainless and feature a durable Ceramic substrate material making them perfect for naturally aspirated applications. They weigh in at 2.5 lbs each and only measure 11 inches in length.

Small Footprint. Installed, the Pypes catalytic converters have a very Small under-carriage footprint that only takes up a virtually invisible 7” in length making them perfect for custom applications.

Will pass most emissions tests. Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converters will pass emissions testing procedures in most states. However, check your local and state ordinances for installation and usage regulations.

Application: The Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter Kit is designed for use with naturally aspirated Mustangs from 1986 to 2010. If you have a Mustang equipped with power adder check out the Pypes High Flow Metallic Catalytic Converter Kit.

I have pypes long tube headers, pypes off road x pype, and pypes bomb cat back and I have to put catalytic converters back on and will these quiet my exhaust system

  • If you install these catalytic converters on your vehicle, yes it will quiet the sound down but it will not drastically change the tone of the exhaust.

Looking for installation guide for these High Flow Cats.... the link below brought me to a guide for the X / H pipes... thx

Will these fit directly onto the pypes catless x pipe without cutting any existing piping? Or do I have to shorten the exhaust ? Also do these cats have o2 bungs? Looking for an easier way to install af monitor without getting bungs welded.

How much quieter will this make a straight piped car. It's too loud but I just want it a little quieter, will these solve the problem?

  • Pypes High Flow Ceramic Catalytic Converter will muffle some of the sound, however, since their purpose is to convert exhaust gasses, it is not very efficient at muffling sound.

Anyone using these cats with the Bassani modular x-pipe? I think they'll fit, just wanted to see if anyone had tried.

Purchased these to quiet down my bassani o/r x pipe on my 02 GT, since my whole neighborhood complained everyday. They did the job and I can notice hp gains. The car sounds nice still and flies around. Extremely easy to install and I recommend them to anybody!

sucks the soul out of your car

I got these cause I needed to pass emissions. I feel like even though there high flow there so small it restricts the exhaust quite a bit. I've noticed severe power loss since putting them on and a drop in mileage. It feels like I went from a v8 to a v6. If your doing this for emissions just make sure you have some flex pipe handy to swap them back out when your done.

    Great Quality

I have not installed these yet because im waiting for the O/R H-Pipe that i ordered with it to ship since it got put on backorder, so I will be updating this later. As for these cats, they arrived in 2 days and look great, very high quality and not a scratch or dent anywhere.

    Tame the beast

Put these high flow cats on after installing pypes x pipe and SLP loud mouth exhaust. I must say it quited down the car a bit but gave it some tone. Was way to loud and rapsy without the high flow cats. Awesome choice and amazing service

    Back with the cats again

I purchased the Pypes off road x pipe to go on my 98 Cobra Saleen but decided it was not the sound I was looking for so I purchased the Pypes ceramic cats and installed them and I am very happy with the sound. and the performance.

    High flow cats FTW!!

I have installed these because my car was way to raspy and loud as i had installed the catless Pypes off road x pipe and the Pypes Bomb Cat Back. I did not expect any performence gain as i was looking into a better exhaust note but it did. I noticed the power gain as the throttle was more responsive, the engine flows better!! It also made the sound clear and less raspy, i get looks everywere i go as it is still just loud enough >:)

    Perfect for longtubes!

I installed cams and Pypes longtubes on my '07 recently. With the O/R H it was way too loud and raspy for my liking. I had a shop weld these cats in for $100 which included realignment and tightening of the last shops shoddy work. Made the exhaust sound like I wanted! Great fit as well!

    This one fits!

Had to put in some cats to be legal so i sacrificed HP. However it wasn't much so it was definitely worth it. I bought of some Slp high flow cats first but they didn't fit where they needed to because of my shorty H pipe and Long tube headers; these, however, did so i was quite happy with them!

    Pypes Ceramic Converters

Absolutely great product. Sounds great, easy install. I just gutted my o.e. converters, then welded these in-line behind the o.e. ones. Worked perfect. Highly recommend to anyone. Thank you

I am running the pypes mm system on my 07 gt and it just wasnt loud enough for me with the stock cats so I tried an off road h. it sounded awesome but a little to loud for an everyday driver so I bought these cats and welded them into my off road h and now the sound is perfect. not too quiet not too loud, awesome product

These were the pain for my installer we had to fab some new pipe when added to my shorty headers and pypes true dual system, Over all they completed the exhaust from front to back great product.

    High Flowing Cats

07 GT/CS, SLP Long Tubes, SLP X-Pipe, SLP Loud Mouths. Old cats went bad swapped them out with the Pypes cats, fit was great, they might have quieted the exhaust down while driving the DB sounded lower, but when you hit the go fast pedal the roar and snap was there!!

    Absolutely no restriction

I previously purchases JBA shorty headers, Pypes x pipe and Magnaflow Magnapacks for my 2007 4.0 mustang. I thought that with that setup my car had an awesome deep loud tone to it and sounded great when accelerating. I just had these cats put on and the difference with just simple cats is ridiculous! I thought with the setup I had before I had a sick sounding car, but once I put these on and accelerated and hell when I even turned the car on I was in complete shock I highly recommend these, its a cheap and easy way to get the best air flow out of every mustang
