Hey, I'm Justin with, and I'm taking a closer look at Pypes polished long tube headers fitting the 4 Valve 5 L coyote motor found in all 2011 and newer Mustang GTs. These headers are constructed from durable 304 grade stainless-steel, including the tubing, which has all been Mandrel-bent to improve your exhaust flow. Now these headers also featured a step up design, which basically means the 1-in-5/8ths inch tubing steps up in size as it leads into this massive 3 inch collector which can definitely improve your performance. You'll also be able to notice this bright polished finish, which is sure to look good under the hood, and help reduce any possible corrosion, so they remain looking good for years to come. If you're not familiar with long tubes, then you should definitely keep a few things in mind. First and most importantly, you're going to see the largest gains in both horsepower and torque, which is by far the biggest plus. Now, those extra gains come with a little bit of extra work. For one, the install will be slightly more involved. Secondly, you will have to modify your Mid Pipe as well. Now in this case, Pypes recommends using their shorty X-Pipe, just for proper installation. When it does come time for install, it'd be a great idea to leave yourself a full day, just to tackle the job. Now again, as I mentioned earlier, in order to make this a 100% bolt-on affair, you will need to pick up Pype's shorty X-Pipe, to bolt everything on without modification. Otherwise, you will need to get some custom work done by your local exhaust shop. So in the end, what you can expect from using Pypes polished long tube headers are considerable power gains, improved throttle response, and a slightly more aggressive exhaust note, especially when compared to your factory manifolds, or a shorty setup, all for a price that's very reasonable. If I already have pypes x-pipe, will I have to buy another x-pipe to put these headers on?

  • If your X-pipe is for the stock length headers and does not have the ability to take the downpipes off, you will need to purchase a shorty mid pipe that will work in unison with these headers.


If I only have an axle back exhaust, what else would I need to install these headers. Will it be a straight bolt on or will some modification be needed?

After install do the long tube headers and shorty x-pipe combo hang lower under the car than the factory system? My mustang is already lowered and I don't want to scrape the x-pipe on the ground everytime I go over a speed bump.

  • NO they do not hang lower they are direct fitment over the normal H pype and headers/cats


If I am keeping my cats, do I need long tube headers, or shortys?

  • If you would like to keep your cats, you can use the Pypes Polished Long Tube Headers (11-14 GT) and mate them up with the Pypes Catted X-Pipe (11-14 GT w/ Long Tube Headers) item #20118 ( which are specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the Pypes Polished Long Tube Headers.


H-pipe or x-pipe Pypes offer an h-pipe on there site for long tube headers can I use that instead of the x-pipe

  • It's all a matter of preference. X-pipes have better exhaust flow so you don't get a bit more power out of them, but the exhaust tone becomes raspy, which I do not like. H-pipes maintain that mustang rumble that I think sounds better, but it does restrict exhaust flow a bit more than an X-pipe. But unless you are cattless you really don't notice the difference in power.


coyote swap Will these headers work with a 05-10 coyote swap build?

  • I would actually call Pypes and ask them. Since the coyote crate engine may have different specs. and the Pypes are specified for a production GT motor there may be fit issues. I'm sure Pypes would be happy to help you out.

    Perfect finish to exhaust Pypes the way to go!

    I had added an offroad H pipe and Pype bombs from Pypes a year earlier. Then decided to take the leap to LT headers when I knew I was going to supercharge. These sounds so awesome with the Pype Bombs. I literally never go more than a day or two without a thumbs up or man that sounds good. LOVE it.

    always the best fit

    I always recommend Pypes headers ever since first installing them on the 3V motors on the 05 and up. these headers are the same quality and fit as those were. the install was very straight forward and as expected really. the only issue that we encountered was the header bolts that were uncured with the headers were the wrong thread pitch so we had to reinstall the studs in the places we had planned to use the bolts. also, we cut ball of the header off to and used a 3 bolt flange for a better seal and fit. there was nothing wrong with the design but we have discovered that there are occurences where over time the bolt system that most of these headers use do tend to work loose. not always, but it does happen. the fit and finish is spot on though, as is always the case when we install Pypes products. the exhaust note now that the headers are installed and everything is hooked up as it should be is just simply indescribable in the best ways. down low it sounds like a standard V8 but above about 4k it sounds like a totally different machiblne. it almost has a V10 note to it now, definitely was not expecting that. just so you know, the mufflers/resonators on this car were not bought, but made. that could account for the exhaust note but I'm pretty sure I've heard other 5.0s that had a similar sound. now for the power gains. based on the classic butt dyno, this car has gained a lot of power. I'm very impressed with how it has changed. I would love to have a had a before and after dyno pull but we didn't have the chance. it definitely feels different though. the pull in first and second is scary because of how much it's changed. and hooking it up on street is a thing of the past now. overall though these are the best headers you are going to find for this price, perhaps at any price. if you have the time to install them, get them. it is definitely a full day install but we tend to be very meticulous as well.

    Good buy!

    I had a hard time deciding what long tubes to buy. Ended up going with these and I'm not disappointed. The install was a pain in the butt. Be prepared to lift the motor and remove motor mounts. Also be prepared to remove the starter. Leave the motor mounts off until the headers are completely tightened on. Extremely tight fit! Primary header on the driver side WILL rub the steering column. Probably going to have to bend it! Positive side is it is LOUD! I have the Pypes Long Tubes, their matching Shorty Catted X-Pipe, and the Heartthrob Muffler Delete axleback. Disgustingly loud! Overall, I am pleased.

    NASCAR Loud

    I now have an entirely new exhaust all by Pypes. Pypes back cat super system, non-cat shorty x-pype and the last piece was these long tube headers. I had a shop install these headers. I dropped it off in the morning and by noon it was finished. After the install the car is noticeably faster. I use to run the race tune around town but after the install of the headers I dialed it down to the performance tune. The exhaust at and above 2000 RPM is pretty loud, WOT above 3000 is race car loud. Sounds great. Exhaust note is pretty good with my set up. If you are going with something similar be ready for race car volume and sound. At night when pulling into my neighborhood I keep it around 1200 RPMs because anything else would wake up the neighbors... seriously.

    If you want your car loud and to sound good.This is what you want. I have the pypes longtube headers,pypes offroad x pipe and pypes pipe bomb exhaust.From 1000rpms to 4000rpms its loud,but from 4000rpms to 7000rpms it screams.Worth every penny.My car dynos 365rwhp stock.Now it dynos 428rwhp with the pypes full exhaust ,cai and tune.

    Great power and sound

    I had my Pypes longtube headers installed with a shorty off road x pipe. I have MAC axelbacks and a dyno tune. The car is loud but sounds good from 1,000-3000rpm, and anything above that it sounds like a freaking race car!!!! Like the others guys have said above I did notice some type of rubbing or hitting on the left side of the header from the primary header on the steering column. Overall I am very happy with this product. The dyno broke during my session , so I will come back and post final numbers soon.

    Ok these were a pain to install. Probably because it was my first time doing headers. Passenger side was really tight but overall it seemed to fit nicely. Driver side had plenty of room but this will contact your steering column. So, I had to bend the tubing a good 1/2 inch so it wouldn't rub. Pypes were lazy in my opinion. They obviously know this is a problem and decided not to fix it. But they do sound great and definitely noticed the increase in horsepower after I tuned it.

    its loud

    I installed them with BBK X-Catted Pipes, no problem with headers but passenger flange wholes were one size smaller than driver side I needed to drill them out , elso getting O2 sensor fault hoply get that resolved soon. overall this setup with my borla attack mufflers is extremely loud if I go over 3000 rm it is a ticket so just need to be carefull , Installation is pain in the butt I would not install these by myself again

    Good and Bad

    These pipes look excellent and sound absolutely amazing!!!! I now have the full pypes system on my car and love it!!! The only problem I ran into. Is when I installed the drivers side header it was rubbing on the steering shaft. Not cool. But I took the header back out and bent it in just alittle bit and now it does not rub. That is really the only issue I had with them.

    The headers look great but fitment could have been better

    The headers sound great and power is great from it. However one ofnthe primaries hit the steering shaft. I tried to move the engine over to the passenger side but still no luck. I ended up denting one of the primaries on my brand new headers

    Pypes long tube headers

    These headers are Sleek and Sexy, they are amazing just a few things that will set you back on the install. You will have to customize you O2 sensors to make them longer so they can be installed, and the other thing I find annoying is that it rattles in turns on the frame because it is a tight fit, so you might want to make a buffer to contain it.

    simply loud!!!!

    I didn't know which headers to go with, but pypes had me on price and the steel they use. I talked to my dealership and ask them to install them, left my car overnight and picked it up in the morning and wow what a difference. Paired with a bama tune, roush axle and a cold air it screams. Sounds like a legit race car, and feels like one. It really wakes it up!

    Meanest sounding pipes!

    I got these headers installed with pypes shorty off road x pipe and pypes pype bomb axel back. the car is insanely loud it's impossible to keep your foot out of it when shiftin through the gears. I noticed a slight decrease in bottom End power but gained lots on the top end. very impressed with the product.
