What's the trick to take the knob off the original

  • To remove the knob, you will need to turn the headlights on, and locate the release latch near the base of the knob. Once the Knob itself is off, you can remove the instrument cover bezel, and access the switch, where there will be a release button to remove the shaft allowing for a complete replacement. Not a Ford Part

I'm giving three stars because the product might work, it is just not a Ford/Motorcraft part as advertised. Elsewhere on the web, I found the part for almost twice the price so I thought this was a good deal. Turns out, it was a Dorman part that I could have gotten for half the price elsewhere. I called AmMuscle about the issue and was given a full credit for the part and was told that I could keep and try it or throw it away. I wasn't really happy that I received the wrong part but was pretty pleased with the customer service I got.

    It is what it is.

Kind of pricy for what it is but I'm sure that's dictated by Ford since this is a factory part. You can spend less for a billet knob or a cheapo generic one at your local parts store but if you want the real Ford item, this is the best place I've found to get it.

    Easy install and good product

I accidently broke off the original knob so I ordered this replacement knob. It went on great and was pretty easy to install. You have to remove part of the dash to get at the switches housing but once you get that out of the way the instalation was a breeze. I definately recomend this. By the way, I don't know if it's just me but I think this knob is a little heavier duty than the original one is.

    Quick and Easy Restoration Piece

I picked up this since my factory knob broke off when trying to replace some dash lights. I had no clue that there was a clip that needed to be tinkered with. No fears since AM carries this little restoration piece. I picked this up with a whole new headlight switch assembly, since that didn't work either. All and all, piece of cake to install everything. Took about an hour or so. I'm just glad to have everything working like it should. Thanks again, AmericanMuscle.

    Headlight switch

A bit pricey for a plastic knob clipped to a metal rod but it worked as advertised. The instructions on the website helped tremendously also.

    Headlight Switch Knob

The Ford headlight switch knob is attached to a shaft. It was very difficult to remove the knob from the shaft; however, once it was off it was very easy to install on the car.

    The Wifes Mustang GT

This replacement knob was a must. The wife had problems getting broke knob out. It is just like the one in the car. Even comes in a Ford box. Really easy to put in. There are two tricks to help.... Once you get the dash part off and get the switch box out the knob come by pressing spring loaded button. Reasemble switch box and dash part, then put new knob in it will lock in place.

    Great replacement!

I'm sure many of you are here because of the same reason, the stupid stock knob keeps coming off! I ordered this piece and it came undamaged, and on time! The knob came attached to the small metal rod, and you have to unconnected them during installation. Don't be afraid to give it some muscle, I did and thought I broke it! But it just required a good tug. Overall, great looking product and it does exactly what I needed it to do!

    Headlight Knob 99-04

Great replacement part, includes the new rod and everything. Shipping was very fast as to be expected from AM. Not too easy to install, as you need to remove the dash and then an additional housing for the old headlight knob and connecting shaft. With the right tools, however, should be a quick fix.
