Description
Improve ET's and low end torque. Are you looking to get more low end grunt off the line and lower ET's at the same time? Then look no further than installing a set of steeper gears in your Pony. This Ford Racing Ring and Pinion Gears are perfect for street, road, or race use.

Complete Kit. This Ford Racing Gear and Installation Kit comes complete with all the components needed to swap out your ring and pinion gear. It includes Ring gear, Pinion gear, 1 bottle of Friction Modifier, 2 bottles of 75w90 Gear Oil, gaskets, seals, shims, bearings and all the required hardware.

Legendary Ford Racing Quality. When you're adding performance parts to your Pony, you can't go wrong by installing parts from the folks that know it best. Ford Racing's legendary quality ensures years of hassle-free use.

Recommended Upgrade. Changing the rear axle gear ratio will throw off the calibration of your Mustangs speedometer, but a Speedometer Gear, a Ford Racing Speedometer Recalibration Tool or a Bama SF3/X3 Power Flash Tuner is a quick and easy way to fix this issue.

Application. This Ford Racing 3.73 Rear Gear and Installation Kit is designed for use with 8.8in solid rear axle equipped Mustangs, including the GT, Bullitt, Mach 1 and 1994-1998 SVT Cobra models. It will not fit the 1999-2004 IRS equipped Cobra Mustangs.

Technical Note. Installation costs will vary, but a good rule of thumb is between $250 and $300. Be sure to work with a reliable shop that you trust for installations. You can also save money on your installation labor by having your Trac-Lok rebuilt at the same time as your gears are installed, see drop down option above.

03 mustang gt Will this be every thing I need to install the gears in my 2003 gt? And for a normal driving day to day, would the 3:73, or the 4:10 be better?

  • Yes, this kit will be everything needed for installation. Your speedometer reading will be off after you install the new gears though, so be sure to have that corrected with either a custom tune or by using the Ford Racing Recalibration Tool. Hope this helps!

    Wow!! What a performance change!!

Well where do I start.... I bought my 98 cobra last year. Heard through the grape vines that American Muscle was no joke!! So I decided to use them. I just bought my 3.73 ford racing performance gear kit and I love it!! What a great performance upgrade. It was a moderate install, that took me a little over half a day to do. The kit has everything that you need. From the gear lube to the friction modifier that you have to use. I am über excited to get this baby to the track!! American muscle will always be my go to site! Keep up the great work guys!!

    3.73 Gear analysis

My current cxar is a '12 GT, I've got the Boss intake, CAI, SCT tuner and tune. I've also got the Cat deletes, BBK X-pipe, Pype bomb mufflers, lowering springs, & Barton bracket. Mine came with 3.31 gears. I bought the 3.73 gear kit. This was great because it came with all the stuff you need. Mine had to be pulled back apart once after initial installation, I had a slight whine, so I re-shimmed it slightly. It still made a miniscukle whine compared to the 3.31's that had 15k miles on them. Now that about 200 miles have passed, the minute whine is gone. Acceleration is greatly enhanced, but it's not like a 100 shot of NOS or putting a blower on it. I like the more easily found power band. I didn't expect this, but it seems my city driving mileage may have actually come up about 1.25 mpg. I can get into 6th and cruise now where I was in 5th before. It's just enough to make a difference based on where I commute. I'd recommend this product and AM was tops on the purchase, as always!

    3.73 swap at the shop

These gears were really easy to swap out especially since I had access to the OTC tools to select pinion shim. Also what I have been noticing with ford racing gears is that for the most part I have been able to use the original shims and my backlash and pattern are right on. You still have to check but they are definitely worth the extra buck. And as far as the others I have had more time spent setting up my backlash. The other thing with newer t5's is the you have to change out the 8 tooth drive Speedo with a yellow 7 tooth. And also switch the driven to a red 21 tooth to get an accurate speedometer reading

    Great improvement

I can really feel the difference in acceleration. And the car coast much easier with the 3:73 gears. The price was impossible to beat. I'm really happy I did the change out.

    Great!

This is a perfect gear ratio for the foxbody mustangs! the kit comes with everything you will need for installation. it was about a 5 hour job and went together perfectly. tremendous gain from the stock gears, really gives you that throw back into your seat feeling. probably one of the best upgrades you can do for the price! rides freeways just fine. i would highly recommend to anyone!

    FRP 3.73 Rear End Gears

My 1999 GT with 103K miles on her was experiencing a severe whining coming from the differential. It had the stock 3.27 gear set and when I updated to the 3.73 gears from Ford Racing it not only eliminated the rear end noise, but significantly improved my low end and mid range power band. The kit was complete with all of the gears, bearings, spacers and fluids that my shop installed in about 4 hours. It is a joy now to row through the gears with the pedal to the metal! I would highly recommended this gear ratio and kit for your SN95.
