Review & Install Video

Hi I’m Justin with, and I’m taking a closer look at the Magnaflow Magnapack catback exhaust fitting the 99-04 Mustang GT and Mach 1. The Magnapack gets its name from these two Bullitt style mufflers, which are a throwback to the classic 60’s and 70’s fastback mufflers, and the sound you get from using this exhaust reflects that. The entire system features full stainless steel construction throughout including these straight through design Magnapack mufflers, the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, all exiting out these 3.5” brightly polished tips. Because Ford chose to weld the factory exhaust on these cars, you will need to cut it off before getting started with the install. Once you have it out of the way, getting the new Magnaflow system installed should only take you about 2 hours from start to finish. Now let’s hear how Magnaflow’s Magnapack sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Free Flowing Exhaust. Magnaflow delivers the ultimate free flowing exhaust for the 1999-2004 GT, Bullitt and Mach 1 Mustangs with the Competition Cat-Back Exhaust System. By eliminating power robbing restrictions. this catback will put more horsepower and torque where it belongs - at the rear wheels.

Aggressive Muscle Car Sound. The Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust System, with its pair of straight-through bullet-style competition mufflers, will give your Mustang the loud aggressive exhaust note of the muscle cars of yesteryear.

Quality Construction. Each piece is made from mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing for long life and a perfect fit. The system ends with brightly polished 3.5" stainless tips, that exit in the stock location for impressive good looks. The OEM-style barbed hangers are designed to ensure easy installation and precise fit.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust System will bolt straight up to the factory Mid Pipe without any extra modifications required on 1999-2004 GT, 2001 Bullitt and 2003-2004 Mach 1 Mustangs, to give it a deeper, aggressive sound.

Will this exhaust work with a 5.0L Coyote Engine swap?

  • If the headers and mid pipe used in the 5.0 swap met at the same position as the stock 99-04 mid pipe then yes this catback would work.

Will this fit a manual?

  • The Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust - 2.5in. (99-04 GT, Mach 1, Bullitt) will fit both manual and automatic mustangs.

I plan on getting this exhaust for my 2003 V6 mustang and was wondering if the Pypes catted X pipe will allow this to fit? With the Pypes catted X pipe and this exhaust will it be crazy raspy like I've been hearing on the Pypes exhausts? How loud would this be on a scale from 1 to 10? I want a head turner, but nothing that is going to get me pulled over. I want a nice deep tone at idle and for it to be heard when I step on it. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Sorry for the beginners questions I'm just getting started in the pony world.

  • This Magnaflow Cat-Back and Pypes Catted X-Pipe will definitely work together. This Cat-Back combined with an X-Pipe will be extremely loud and raspy. An X-Pipe tends to have more of an aggressive, raspy tone to it. If you are looking for something a little more toned down, I suggest going with an H-pipe. This will give the car more of a muscle car sound. I suggest going on YouTube and listening to some exhaust clips to give you a better idea of what everything sounds like.

I live in California and the emmission regulations are strict. Will this competion catback exhaust pass the emmission test? I'm getting the BBK shorty headers, true dual adapter ( I have a v6 ) and these if they pass the emmission test. If not is it better to get the other magnaflow street catback exhaust?

  • Get in touch with your most reliable muffler shop before making any mods to a CA car. They can tell you what will pass and what won't. I made the mistake of buying a GT that didn't have all four cats. Couldn't pass emissions tests without investing about a grand to bring it back to almost stock configuration. However, I do have a friend who installs his stock set-up to pass smog, then when it passes he replaces it with his beasty exhaust system until it has to be smogged again.

    Amazing Product!!

I recieved my pipes in the mail today and had them installed for $60, and they are exactly what I was looking for! I was trying to choose between the American Thunder catback and this, and I dont regret my decision at all! These pipes produce an excellent deep agressive muscle car note that I cant get enough of! All I've been doing today is looking for reasons to drive it! The sound is loud, but not so loud to where its annoying while cruising. If you want a deep loud muscle car sound, then this is the catback for you.

    Awesome but difficult

I bought this catback exhaust with the pacesetter H pipe adapter for my 2001 v6. The install was clean and clear for the most part until i got to the passanger side. I had not thought ahead and did not realize that i needed the passanger side hangar off a mustang GT for the exhaust to hang correctly. Without the tip hangars the exhaust hangs neatly beneath the v6 bumper, i do recommend either cutting or getting a gt bumper to give it a better look. Without the tip hangars you are fine but keep in mind the install is not exactly clear as day. When working with a v6 the body is the same but the lay out is slightly different so you may find yourself working on opposite sides of the diagram. On a v6 i must say this exhaust sounds amazing. It's not to loud at idle and when you accelerate it is incredible. I've had many compliments on the sound.

    Souns very nice

I have a 2003 Mustang GT with a 5speed Manual Transmission. Product was shipped right away, had my mechanic professionally install it in about 1hr and 45mins. Noticed the sound as soon as you turn the key. Very nice sound gears 1-4, can feel it with your foot as soon as you hit the gas. Nice rumbly gurgle to the sound. Would recommend this product for any Mustang owner.

I had a local garage install. He had just finished installing a magnaflow system on a 09 Mustang. When he ran my stang down the road the owner of the 09 mustang wanted to know what the exhasust was he had installed in my 02 GT. Sweet sounding, I have stock mid pipe and headers.

    Awesome Exhaust

I had these installed a year ago when my old exhaust was starting to leak and my inspection was due. Perfect timing! I absolutely love this exhaust system. It is easily the loudest catback you can get and it sounds so much better than Flowmasters. Last week I had a Pypes x-pipe installed and now my exhaust sounds even better. As someone else mentioned, driving through tunnels and overpasses are a blast. In my opinion, this is the first mod you should get if you own a stock Stang, especially if you are after a powerful, loud, muscular exhaust tone.

    2001 GT

I put this on my 01 and the sound is what a true Mustang should sound like. It only took me a few hours for me to install, and the worst part was taking the old one off because everything was rusted. It sounds its best around 2000 - 3500 RPM, and you can feel the rumble inside the car. I would definitely recommend this exhaust to everyone.

    2003 magnaoack

I bought this exhaust awhile back. I must say, when you turn the radio all the way down its sounds like im in a stock car at daytona!! The sweet low bass note is around 2200 rpm and the higher you go the more exciting it gets. Of course, after install you'll need to re-tighten the bolts and clamps a few times but thats it. GREAT system. recommend over any other brand.

    Magnapack #1

I've had a Dynomax cat back, I've had a Flowmaster cat back and I've had the SLP LM1 and LM2 cat back. I ended up changing and selling them all. In my opinion, none of them compare to this one. I was searching for the perfect sound and now I found it. It's fairly loud but a nice loud. It has an amazing deep loud tone and I would not change it for anything. It has an amazing low volume rumble at idle. Long live the V8 Mustang!

    Just Awsome

I purchased a 01 GT with BBK long tube headers and BBK H pipe with cats and the Magna packs. At Idle doesn't rattle the windows but when you put the hammer down its loud and low. I really like the sound and get compliments all the time.

I've been running these on my '02 GT Convertible for about 6 years now. Hands down one of the first and best upgrades I did. Even after all this time, they look and sound AMAZING. I'm debating on an X pipe for more power. The only time I am sheepish about this exhaust is when I pull the car out of the garage before 6am and think about my poor neighbors. An excellent sound and a great look. This is how Mustangs were meant to sound!

Paired this with an MRT H and the exhaust note has exceeded all expectations. Stopped at the store for coffee with my father and when we were leaving upon start up some random stranger requested a few blips of the throttle and then gave a enthusiastic thumbs up. Best way to describe, pronounced burble at idle and when the rpms climb sounds like an uncaged beast. My car is a 35th Anniversary GT. Highly recommended. Thanks AM.

I love the Magnaflow exhaust. I had SLP before and the sound difference is dramatic and sounds great. This system with a catted x sounds amazing. A must get product for your Stang.
