Review & Installation Video

Hi I’m Justin with, and I’m going to be breaking down Airaid’s Cold air, and race cold air intake, fitting the 2011 and newer Mustang GT. At first glance it would appear that both of these intakes from Airaid are identical, and that’s because they pretty much are, both intakes feature the same molded high density polyethelene tube and heat shield, the same black couplers, and the same massive SynthaFlow filter, but there is one exception and that would be this removable, modular Venturi insert, that is included with the regular version of the airaid, but is not included with the race version. When installed, the insert reduces the air flow enough so that you can run this intake on your Coyote motor without the need for a performance tune, and still make more power over your stock airbox. With the insert removed however you’re letting more air into the engine and it’s at that point the performance tune becomes required. That makes the Race intake from Airaid an excellent choice for the Mustang owner that already has a tune in place, on the other hand if you’re on a budget and you’re not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, the regular Airaid may be the better option. Install the intake with the included insert, then enjoy some decent gains until you’re ready for a tune. At that point remove the insert, upload your tune, and you’re instantly on your way to making more power. With our baseline runs already out of the way, we want to see just how much power we can expect when using these intakes. Of course since we’re looking for the biggest gains possible, we’re going to run the Airaid without the insert installed and pair it up with one of our custom Bama tunes. Installing the Airaid onto your car is an easy enough task for any backyard mechanic to tackle, in about an hour’s time using basic hand tools. The custom Bama tune is going to do a lot of things for our GT, including tweaking your fuel ratios, optimize our spark timing, and adjust our variable cam timing. The tune should also help our automatic here with increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. With the Airaid installed and the tune uploaded let’s make another hit here on the Dyno and see what the results are. Our baseline run with our automatic 2011 GT gave us 336 horsepower and 302 ft/lbs of torque, with our Airaid and Bama combination we put down 362 horsepower and 336 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 33 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 36 horsepower and 60 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So that wraps up my review of the cold air intake and race intake from Airaid, whether you already have a tune, or you’re planning on picking one up down the road, Airaid’s two options make it a whole lot easier to pick the ideal option for your setup, and as always they can both be found right here at

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates to more horsepower, torque and better fuel efficiency. This Airaid Carbon Fiber CAI kit completely replaces your Mustangs restrictive factory air box and paper filter element with a high flow Airaid filter assembly for an increase of 11 more horsepower and 11 more torque at the rear wheels.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the Coyote powered Mustangs, the Airaid CAI does not require a computer re-tune when installed with the included "Modular Venturi Tube". The Modular Venturi Tube (MVT) can be removed for off-road use when combined with a custom tune. By utilizing state of the art computer-aided designs, Airaid Intake Systems offer unmatched fit, finish, and power!

Superior Filtration. Each cold air intake provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles that ordinary cotton-gauze “performance” filters just can’t capture. Airaid Premium Filters, with SynthaFlow® can capture particulates down to 2 microns in size. And best of all Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Carbon Fiber Construction. Designed for superior airflow this Airaid Cold Air Intake features a inlet elbow that is made from carbon fiber, not only for its good looks, but for its resistance to heat soak to supply cooler denser air to the intake manifold.

Application. This Airaid Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2011-2014 5.0L GT Mustangs and does not require re-tuning the vehicles computer when installed with the included "Modular Venturi Tube".

    Air raid carbon intake install

Amazing product I love the new intake and love the new sound it gives off coming out from under the hood. The carbon fiber finish was worth every penny! Great piece and great conversation starter! Installation took me about an hour at my buddy's shop.

    Awesome gains

The instructions that came with the product made the installation very simple and easy. You can actually hear the air getting sucked into the engine when you put the pedal to the metal. Haven't dyno'd it yet but the car is a lot faster and has a lot more power between 4 and 7,000 rpm. My next investment is going to be fatter tires because you have no grip when you punch it from a stand still even with the traction control on.

    Pricey but good

Took a while for AM to send me the MVT that is needed for a non-tuned engine, but once I put the MVT in, there is a noticeable difference. You can hear the engine suck more air in when you press the pedal and the fuel mileage is pretty good, as well.

    AirAid CarbonFiber CAI

First off the intake just looks amazing. It is well made; minus one issue, and no corners were cut in the design of the tube or the parts that go with it. The issue I had was that they cut the hole for the smaller fitting too big. I measured it between .775 and .780, and it should have been .750. I did call AirAid and they were the ones that gave me the dimension. So I had to modify the grommet to make it tighter and I also siliconed it on the inside to make sure it didn't leak by. The other fitting was very tight; almost did not get the fitting through the grommet, so it fits like it should. So I put afternoon on install time because of the issue I had to resolve; I also recommend anyone buying the CF version put in the fittings before installing the intake, just so you're not spending time modifying if you have to with your car torn a part. All in all the look is great, it fits under the hood like it should, and my exhaust is already so loud I can't really hear the intake, but you can tell the car runs better. So if you want something different and eye catching order this intake. Next I am buying the blue dry filter so that I can keep up with my color scheme under the hood.

    Great Addition

Great addition to the 5.0 however assembly and installation took significant time to install the inner tube to the throttle body.
