Description
Increase Horsepower and Torque. Airaid Race Cold Air Intake Systems are computer designed to give your engine maximum air flow, which translates into more horsepower, torque and improved fuel efficiency. Airaid Race intakes are dyno tested and tuned for maximum performance and efficiency.

Superior Filtration. This cold air intake not only improves horsepower, but it also provides superior air filtration, since it includes an Airaid Premium Filter with SynthaFlow® technology. SynthaFlow® is a synthetic nano-fiber material that traps the smallest dirt particles down to 2 microns in size that ordinary cotton-gauze “performance” filters just can’t capture. And best of all Airaid Premium Filters are washable and re-usable saving you money.

Required Upgrade. Installation of this Cold Air Intake will require the use of a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for operation.

Application. This Airaid Race Cold Air Intake kit is specifically designed for use on the 2011 to 2014 GT Mustangs equipped with the coyote 5.0L 4 valve V8 engine. A computer re-tune is required for operation.

Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m going to be breaking down Airaid’s Cold air, and race cold air intake, fitting the 2011 and newer Mustang GT. At first glance it would appear that both of these intakes from Airaid are identical, and that’s because they pretty much are, both intakes feature the same molded high density polyethelene tube and heat shield, the same black couplers, and the same massive SynthaFlow filter, but there is one exception and that would be this removable, modular Venturi insert, that is included with the regular version of the airaid, but is not included with the race version. When installed, the insert reduces the air flow enough so that you can run this intake on your Coyote motor without the need for a performance tune, and still make more power over your stock airbox. With the insert removed however you’re letting more air into the engine and it’s at that point the performance tune becomes required. That makes the Race intake from Airaid an excellent choice for the Mustang owner that already has a tune in place, on the other hand if you’re on a budget and you’re not ready to pull the trigger on a tune just yet, the regular Airaid may be the better option. Install the intake with the included insert, then enjoy some decent gains until you’re ready for a tune. At that point remove the insert, upload your tune, and you’re instantly on your way to making more power. With our baseline runs already out of the way, we want to see just how much power we can expect when using these intakes. Of course since we’re looking for the biggest gains possible, we’re going to run the Airaid without the insert installed and pair it up with one of our custom Bama tunes. Installing the Airaid onto your car is an easy enough task for any backyard mechanic to tackle, in about an hour’s time using basic hand tools. The custom Bama tune is going to do a lot of things for our GT, including tweaking your fuel ratios, optimize our spark timing, and adjust our variable cam timing. The tune should also help our automatic here with increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. With the Airaid installed and the tune uploaded let’s make another hit here on the Dyno and see what the results are. Our baseline run with our automatic 2011 GT gave us 336 horsepower and 302 ft/lbs of torque, with our Airaid and Bama combination we put down 362 horsepower and 336 ft/lbs of torque making for a peak gain of 33 horsepower over our baseline numbers, and gains of 36 horsepower and 60 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So that wraps up my review of the cold air intake and race intake from Airaid, whether you already have a tune, or you’re planning on picking one up down the road, Airaid’s two options make it a whole lot easier to pick the ideal option for your setup, and as always they can both be found right here at AmericanMuscle.com

  • This Airaid Race CAI requires a tune when installing while the standard Airaid CAI has the Modular Venturi Tube inserted and does not require a tune upon install. However, you can always remove the Venturi tube and then tune the intake for optimum performance. Hope this helps to answer your question!

  • I have the SCT tuner and it has the check box for the Air Raid. Your Bama should have one as well.

    A little extra boost

This is a good power adder without breaking the bank and having noticeable gains. With the CAI and tune (performance tune preferred for daily driving) the extra power and torque makes sure you are securely planted in your seat.

    Definitely worth the money

At first i just bought the Bama tuner and figured the stock airbox would be good enough since i had read some pretty nasty reviews on how water was getting into the filters with the 2013 mustang gt's (there is a weather strip that comes with it that helps). I have not had this problem yet and i've ran into some pretty nasty rainstorms.I also gained around 1.5 mpg with this intake. I am very happy with it, and in my opinion a must have. Definitely worth the money.

    Makes More Power

I paired this CAI with a BBK 90mm throttle body and Bama tune on a stock '13 GT. I don't know if it's the throttle body or CAI, but right away I noticed a HUGE difference in throttle response and you can definitely FEEL the difference in power over 4000 RPMS. I've also gained about 1.5 MPG since I installed these. The only problem I had during install was getting the rubber grommets to fit into the openings. I ended-up cutting a small chunk off of one of them to get it in the hole. Of course, American Muscle got this to my doorstep in record time. Some people have noted a more aggresive sound, but I really didn't notice. I do sometimes hear the air sucking into the CAI at low RPMs, but it's barely noticable. Good product!

    Great Upgrade!

The Airaid CAI was an excellent upgrade to my 2012 mustang GT. The fit was pretty snug so just take your time and make sure that everything sits right. You can definitely fill the difference this makes with the BAMA perfromance tune! This is a great investment! You will not be dissappointed!

    Excellent add on advice.

I bought this CAI to replace stock equipment. Product fit and quality were excellent. Product even came with a recommendation for a pre-filter which initially I was concerned about because of water entering engine compartment thru hood vents. I'm very happy with this CAI.

    worth it

I bought as a combo with tunes and am very happy with power increase. Install was easy, and everything was nice and tight. Option to remove sound tube is nice; mine sounds good left on. An extra filter would be handy.
