More Horsepower and Torque. Improve the horsepower and torque of your SN95 GT pony with a set of BBK Shorty headers. These BBK Shorty headers will improve your mustangs exhaust flow increasing your pony's horsepower and torque.

Quality Construction. These BBK Shorty Exhaust headers are manufactured from 1 5/8" CNC mandrel bent tubing for unrestricted airflow and one piece laser cut 3/8" flanges for added strength. The headers are then finished with BBK's high-temp Silver Polished Ceramic Coating for good looks and to lower under hood temperatures.

Application. Designed to fit the 1996-2004 4.6 GT Ford Mustang. These BBK Ceramic Coated shorty headers include high-quality mounting hardware and gaskets, so that they will bolt right up to your Mustangs stock Mid Pipe.

Technical Notes. These BBK Shorty Headers are CARB certified (CARB EO Number: D-245-16) and 50 state legal.

Review & Install Video

Hey, Justin here with AmericanMuscle.com, and I have with me BBK’s tuned length shorty headers, available in your choice of either chrome or ceramic, fitting all 96-04 Mustang GTs. These headers feature what BBK refer to as their tuned length runner design, which makes them a hybrid between a standard shorty setup and a set of long tubes. As you can see the headers aren’t nearly as long as a set of long tubes, but in the end BBK claims more horsepower and torque, versus your typical shorty setup. As for the constructions, we’re looking at 1 ¾” mandrel bent stainless steel tubing, as well as these laser cut flanges for an OEM quality fit. So why would you want to go with a shorty setup versus a set of long tubes? Well, simply put a shorty header is going to be less expensive and much easier to install, versus a set of long tubes. This is due to the fact that most shorty headers are a direct bolt on, meaning you wouldn’t have to modify your Mid Pipe like you would using a set of long tube headers. Will the shorty perform just as good or better than a set of long tubes? Most likely no, but it’s still a solid upgrade over those restrictive cast iron factory manifolds. As I mentioned earlier you do have the choice of picking these headers are in a chrome finish or a ceramic finish. So what are the differences between the two? Well for one, you can see the chrome finish is a little brighter initially but that’s going to change as these headers heat cycle, eventually turning that bright silver into a dark blue or purple color. On the other hand, we have the ceramic finish, which is going to remain that bright silver, for years down the road. Secondly that ceramic coating is going to be better at reducing under the hood temperatures, which is always good for performance. Those added benefits do come at a cost as those ceramic coatings are typically a little more expensive than a chrome plated or a stainless header. Doing the install on any set of headers can be a little intense so it’s best to leave yourself a full day to tackle the job just to be on the safe side, and as always if you’re not feeling confident about this one, don’t hesitate to give your local shop a call, they’ll be happy to help you out. Do i need to buy a mid pipe with this shorty headers ?

  • There's a two part answer to this question. 1. No, these are a direct bolt on replacement. They will work with your existing factory mid-pipes, and don't require any mid-pipe upgrades to fit. However... 2. You'll want to upgrade your mid-pipe and remaining exhaust after these! To get the most out of the increased flow you get from these, it's best to upgrade to a performance H pipe or X pipe set. If you're like me and upgrade your car as money allows, go ahead and just replace the headers now. Just know you will eventually want to do more to maximize the end result in time.

What is a better combination? I would like to know which combonation is better. I wanna get headers, midpipe, and an exhaust. Should i get longtube headers with a shorty midpipe, or shorty headers with a normal size midpipe?? what would give me more power??

  • Longtube's will give you more top end horsepower there good if you have lots of modifications, but shorty's will give you more power and torque on a lightly modified car. Also shorty's are easier to install than longtube's.

do i have to have the same brand off road mid pipe or can they be different? i already bought a MAC off road h-pipe and want to know if the fitment will be ok or am i going to run into problems.

  • I put on BBK headers, Pacesetter h-pipe, and Mac exhaust. Just make sure you pay attention to the diameters. There are some that are 3, 2 1/2, and 2 inch diameters out there. Match those up and you'll be golden!

    Pros + Cons

    I bought these headers for a 5.5l race engine swap since they appeared to sit tight to the engine for clearance reasons. Right out of the box they looked pretty good- there were still some ceramic beads laying around which I thought was neat. These headers are quite heavy for shorties. The welds on the outside were clean but the inner welds on the collector looked like a weak spot. That's not a big deal because of the heavy construction. DO NOT use the gaskets that come with this kit. They are practically foil reinforced paper. I highly recommend buying some carbon fiber or bronze header gaskets. These headers fit the new Trick Flow 2v heads fine. If anyone out there is performing a swap using a 5.4l block, these will not clear the strut towers. The towers will need modifications. They will fit perfectly fine on a 4.6l. If you're buying these for sound, don't run catalytic converters. Removing the cats will only free up 5-7hp total and "high-flow" cats are a marketing gimmick. All in all I'm happy with them so far!

    BBK Equal length shorty headers

    1st let me say American Muscle is the best, product arrived timely and as advertised. Now on to the BBK header. Welds, finish and ceramic coating were great but that is where it ends. The left header had the exhaust pipe bung welded at an angle where the factory pipe would not fit. Easy fix by cutting the tube and using some braided hose I had left over from another project. On the right header the 2nd lower header bolt(from the front) hole was an issue. The head of the bolt hit the header tube. Easy fix, shortened the bolt, tapered the bolt and fixed the thread. If the hole had been oval shaped or even a slot it would have worked much better. I had expected better from BBK. Time frame probably 8-14 hrs total. Would have been faster but I only had an hr here and there to do the install. Would I buy these again. Probably not.

    BBK Ceramic Headers on 2000GT

    Great product and quick FREE shipping with AM! Love the extra tone and power! Would suggest having a shop do the work it is quite extensive but can be done in a driveway. A must have for your Mustang!

    Ceramic Short Headers

    It took me about 15 hours in total to install these headers. The bolts are near impossible to tighten because of the shape of the tubes but I managed to do it on the passenger side by putting a block where the engine mount goes and then lowering the engine to tilt it toward the driver side. Although I protected my A/C line with high heat wrap and tried to move it up, the header has now burned through the A/C line on the passenger side and is going to be a costly fix for the small amount of power that I gained in the mid RPM range. I would recommend to anyone to remove the K-frame instead of doing it with the K-frame installed.

    Great Product

    These headers were very easy to install. I had to replace my motor mounts so the engine had to be lifted which made installing the headers much easier. They WILL smoke for a few minutes upon first starting. This is just the coating and any oils from handling them. I installed SLP's x pipe and loud mouth cat backs at the same time, and I absolutely love the sound. I didnt turn the radio on the first week after installing them.

    Excellent! Excellent!

    The headers looked very nice! They fit right in the car (2001 GT convertible). The K brace had to be removed for the installation. The lower center bolts were fun to get in. I had all ready installed a polished & ported TB and raised plenum with a SR plenum spacer. The TB is quarter-shafted. With that, I only gained a little. After the headers were installed there was a tremendous difference. Very strong! Fun at the stoplights now! I should have done this first, then the tuner. I highly reccomend this product!!!

    Excellent fitment and great sound quality..

    I had one of my technicians install a set of these BBK Headers on my 2000 GT. Overall straight forward installation. Dropped the K-Member and had them bolted up leak free in about 2 1/2 hrs. Amazingly they made my car quieter at an idle but man do they help let the car breath up high. Thanks AM for the prompt delivery and great price.

    awesome, but needs work

    bought these during my 3.8 to 4.6sohc swap and they sound AMAZING, have an upr xpipe do yourself a favor and dont get cats,truly nuts, only complaint studs werent installed into header down feeds and had to file down slits to get bolts to fit through them, a little more time at bbk needed!
