Can this kit be modded to use a hard-wired switch? I don't want another fob, but have a switch in mind that I'd like to hard-wire this plate kit to, but not sure if that's doable. If the fob must be used, could I wire that to a switch? I have an install shop in mind because Im expecting that a custom bracket will be needed and they can do any wiring, but figured I'd see if anyone else with this kit has done this or knows if its doable.

    Keeping the local police happy

    April 26, 2014

This is a good product, but if you are buying it for a GT500, plan on spending about 3 hours to really do it right. There is not an easy way to mount the bracket properly. I found it easiest to remove the chin spoiler and make the slight modifications and mount the assembly on my work bench. I bought additional black split wire loom from my local parts store and ran all wires in a loom from the battery all the way to the underside to the motor. I also wrapped the looms in black tape to match the way the factory did it and ran them side by side with factory loom where possible. While you are at the parts store, pick up some two sided 3M tape to mount the receiver strategically to the inside fender. In my case, right next to the fusebox. The final product looks factory original and the bracket itself works flawlessly. If you need a front license plate for legal reasons, this is a great solution, just plan on taking a little longer than the listed hour install time.

    Flip Down License Plate Holder

    August 08, 2010

I like to keep my 06 as stock looking as possible, who doesn't want a retractable plate. Once I thought out where I was going to put it, ( centered of course ) installing it was a breeze. I bought a take off nose from another GT, so as not to deal with the holes already drilled ( thats another story ) I didn't care much for the flex type brackets so I tossed them and constructed my own using a wedge of rubber (like a door stop). The angle allowed the glide rail to be level to the ground and made for a very tight fit.I didn't want it ripping off at the track. Wiring was easy to hide in the factory loom and the receiver mounts right near fuse box. I've had this for several months now and it still turns heads when ever I activate it. The only downside is forgetting to raise the plate before you start to drive. If you live in NJ you know what a hassle that can be. If someone could build a timer circuit that would raise and lower it with the ignition that would be nice. Yes my car is lowered so watching where I park is a major effort. But worth it.

    Harder Than It Looks

    April 09, 2010

I got a fix-it-ticket and decided that this was the best way to go to keep the clean front look. The 2010 GT has a rubber seal on the front fascia that doesn't allow a clean look. I had to cut the seal and i drilled to make way for the holder. Works great and a nice ice breaker at car shows.

If you're considering it, just buy it.

    January 27, 2012

I've had the motorized flip plate on my car for five months now. The car is an ungaraged daily driver that sees all sorts of weather and car washes. The only minor thing I've found "wrong" is after a car wash, I sometimes have to make sure the plate backing is straight on the track or it's unable to slide smoothly. Two seconds to tap it back on track and you're good to go. If you're on the fence I'd definitely recommend just going for it.

    Motorized Flip up/Down License Plate

    April 21, 2011

If you have a low or lowered vehicle, I would NOT suggest this motorized flip up/down license plate bracket. Yes it's cool, while your car is parked, however, the bracket with license plate mounted sits an additional two inches lower, which makes a lowered Mustang almost impossible to drive without scraping the bracket while driving, especially when pulling into or out of parking lots that have a slightly raised entrance. The bracket is constructed out of a flimsy metal and each time it scrapes against the ground the bracket becomes distorted and the plate will not function. You will spend hours under your car attempting to straighten out the bracket so the plate can operate smoothly up and down the rail without malfunctioning.. I finally removed it from my car. I got tired of wasting my time attempting to straighten out the bracket so it would function correctly.

    Plate Ninja!

    June 17, 2013

As the local law enforcement cracks down on having a front license plate, this product works great! Push a button on the remote and "where did that come from?" Push it again, and "Where did it go?" Easy wiring instructions and fits perfectly inside my ground effects kit, so I don't have to display my plate when rolling into car shows! I haven't run a front plate in YEARS, but since the PoPo is trying to generate more funds for California, it was time to go legit.

    Flip Down License Plate Holder

    March 08, 2010

This took some time to install using the alternate method in the instructions. After bending 2 "Z" small brackets and drilling 3 holes the mounting was pretty smooth. Wired it directly to the battery and ran the wires down the passengers side. It works great and I can now display a customized plate instead of the ugly license plate at cruise nights and car shows.

good if u don't want holes in your bumper or a front plate on car 24/7

    March 11, 2013

I bought this for my 04gt mainly because I'm 100% against a front plate and hate the buck tooth it gives a car. my car is lowered 2inches in the front and i have the mach chin spoiler so i knew i couldn't mount it on the bottom of the bumper which was fine cause i wasn't going to do it that way anyway. I just cut the two little plastic strips and mounted it dead center of the bumper, so now when its up it actually looks like the plate is mounted on the car. Cutting those two plastic strips didn't hurt visual appearance either. The plate hides it really well up or down.

Flip Down License Plate Holder, Motorized

    March 09, 2011

Item does what it is needed, instructions aren't all that clear, very thankful that it had pictures. For the money, I thought it would be better, motor seems to be crappy, it's not very stable. If your buying for mustang, be prepared to anchor this semi heavy product to your plastic under the car. Not stable. It would have better to have gotten the one with out the motor. This is a poor product really. Im very disappointed in American Muscle for charging so much for this. I buy everything from AM, and I will continue to do so, but since I have installed, I can't return, otherwise I would.
