I want to put this block in my 2002 mustang gt. What are the best heads to use and cams would be best for this block.

Mustanggt02

  • Unfortunately, there is not just one answer, as there are so many different heads and camshafts that would work well with this block, and it would come down to your specific application. Depending on what you plan do to the motor as far as stroke length, if this would be a naturally aspirated motor, or a forced induction motor, the cubic feet per minute needed to pass through the heads, et cetera, et cetera. With all the different possibility, the variations are what seems to be endless, and we would highly recommend speaking to your engine builder and tuner regarding your desired application.

Application. This Ford Racing Boss Modular 5.0L Engine Block is designed to be direct fit replacement for the stock 4.6L block of the 1996 to 2004 GT Mustang. So from this description this block will bolt directly into a 4.6 engine bay? No trans mods or engine mount mods?

Bigdiezel79

  • The Ford Performance Boss Modular 5.0L Engine Block will bolt right up to your transmission without any modifications. You will be able to reuse your bell housing as well. You will not need to move or do any modifications to the engine mounts. This Block will bolt perfectly fine to their factory locations.

Will this block work with an 06 Mustang GT? Build it as a 3v.

SilentJ

  • The Ford Performance Boss Modular 5.0L Engine Block is built off of a 2v 4.6 liter motor meant for a 1996-2004 Mustang GT.

I have an option here that I feel is important to inquire about. I am able to buy a 1998 cobra aluminum block or I can get this Boss block. Of course the 5.0 will generate more air than the 4.6 but my question is the hp gain that significant between the two??? The aluminum block is 60lbs lighter so I was wondering if they might not both be somewhat equal in comparison, would they??? Adding: MSD coil pack, Typhoon manifold, (BBK-78mm TB/Plenum, shorties, x-pipe, underdrive pulleys, fuel rails, CAI and adjustable fuel regulator), Trick Flow street heat heads and timing gears/valves to match, stage II Comp Cams, and high flow oil connection. {Stroker kit and supercharger will be purchased after block.} I have already purchased all of these other upgrades but when I was ready I was unable to find an aluminator block so now I am stuck.. Which block is better for my applications, 98 aluminum Cobra or this Boss Block???

Dude

  • Hi, This Ford Performance Boss Modular 5.0L Engine Block is a very good block for do a cool 5.0 swap that will make good HP numbers on low boost, but in my opinion Id go with the 98 cobra block if you are going to do some high level boosting, its the Italy made Teksid block, the strongest production ford block ever made.

Piston fitment? I know the block needs to be honed and milled, but when getting larger pistons will the larger pistons fit my 01 gt rods? Will I need bigger rods? If so do I need to get a different crank?

TombstoneMustanggt

  • It is highly recommended that you upgrade to larger rods and a different crank. You will not be able to use your factory rods with the larger pistons.

What about the heads and gaskets? I know it says it "reuses everything from your stock 4.6L GT", but how can it have a larger piston bore without needing the same size diameter of the gasket? Or needing the combustion camber to also be bigger for the new bore size? If the AMStaff can please answer my question, or a well education member, it would be greatly appreciated before I buy.

  • Hi, This Ford Performance Boss Modular 5.0L Engine Block has a 4.6L deck height and will use a 4.6 2v top end and a 5.0 bottom end, this block also requires the deck to be milled, bores finished , and then hone each bore specifically for their combination by a engine builder.
