How to Install Wheel Spacers on Your 1994-2012 Mustang

  • 19mm deep socket (or imperial equivalent)
  • Socket Wrench
  • Torque Wrench
  • Light sandpaper and/or rag
  • Jack, chocks, jack stands

NOTE: This install used H&R Track Hubcentric 25mm spacers. The installation process would be the same for any brand and size spacer.

Installation Instructions:

1. Set your parking brake and chock your wheels. Jack up your car, one corner at a time.

2. Remove your wheel to expose the brakes and wheel hub.

3. Remove the wheel spacers from the package.

4. Once you have the brake/wheel hub in front of you, make sure the hub is as clean and free of dirt/rust as you can. You’ll want as tight a fit as possible between the hub and the wheel spacer. If you’re lucky enough to put the spacers on with new rotors, this step will be easy as you will already have a nice clean surface.

5. However, if you are installing on an existing rotor (and now would be a good time to check your brakes and make sure they are still good!), use a rag or some light sandpaper to clean any dirt or rust off your rotor. Make sure to remove the retaining clip (see picture below) before installing the wheel spacer. Use a screwdriver or pliers to pry this off. Take care not to damage the threads.

6. Once you have a clean surface, it’s time to install the wheel spacer! Put it on and thread the included nuts onto the wheel studs that are on your car. Tighten the bottom one first, then the rest using a star pattern (similar to installing a wheel). This is where your 19mm socket and torque wrench are essential.

7. You may need an assistant for this step. For the back wheels, you can set your parking brake to allow you to torque the nuts. For the front wheels, have an assistant sit in the car and hold the brakes; otherwise the wheel assembly and spacer will just spin when you try to tighten them.

NOTE: Spacers larger than 1/4” are intended for rear wheel use only.

8. Using your 19mm socket and a torque wrench, tighten all the nuts to 100 ft-lbs (same as your wheel).

9. Once they are all tight, reinstall your wheel and loosely tighten your lugs; do not torque them down yet. Your wheel will now be using the new wheel studs that are part of the wheel spacer. Make sure that your wheel fits flush against the wheel spacer.

10. Lower the car back down to the ground and torque your wheel to 100 ft-lbs.

11. Repeat for each wheel getting a spacer.

IMPORTANT: It would be a VERY good idea to take your wheels off after 60 miles/100km or so and check the torque again on the nuts on the wheel spacer.
