Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with, and I’m taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s Cat-Back exhaust system, fitting the 94-98 Mustang GT, and Cobra. At first glance, you can tell this system from Magnaflow is not going to be as radical as their Magnapack per say, and that’s due to these two traditional chambered mufflers, which this system is built around. Of course those chambered mufflers will still allow for that classic muscle car sound, but without any excess drone of rasp, especially when you toss an offroad X or H pipe into the mix. Magnaflow’s quality is always top notch, and the same is true with this exhaust, we’re looking at 100% stainless steel constructions throughout, including the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, the traditional chambered mufflers we just mentioned, and finally these huge 3.5” polished tips. Since the factory exhaust on these SN95’s is all one piece essentially, you will need to cut it off before getting started with the install of the new Magnaflow system. Once you get that factory system out of the way, getting the new Magnaflow bolted up should only take you about 2 hours from start to finish. Now let’s hear how the Magnaflow Cat-Back sounds compared to our factory exhaust.

Free Flowing Exhaust. Magnaflow delivers the ultimate exhaust for the 1994-1998 Mustang GT and Cobra with this Street Cat-Back Exhaust. By reducing back pressure for a free flowing exhaust, this catback produces more power and torque where it belongs - at the rear wheels.

Classic Muscle Car Sound. The Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust System includes a set of two Street Series Mufflers that feature a free-flowing, straight-through perforated stainless steel core, with stainless mesh wrap and acoustical fiber fill to deliver that smooth, deep muscle car tone.

Quality Construction. Each piece of this Street Cat-Back System is crafted from mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel tubing for long life and a perfect fit. Street Series mufflers and brightly polished 3.5" stainless steel tips exit out of the stock location for impressive good looks.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust will bolt straight up to the factory Mid Pipe without any extra modifications required on the 1994-1998 GT or SVT Cobra Mustang to give it a deeper, classic sound.

Will it work with the PaceSetter V6 Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit (94-98 V6)? I have a V6 3.8L, wondering if i use the PaceSetter Adapter Kit would I be able to install the Magnaflow? Thank you in advance!

  • Absolutely! The Magnaflow Street Cat-Back Exhaust (94-98 GT, Cobra) will work just fine with the PaceSetter V6 Dual Exhaust Adapter Kit (94-98 V6) item #51064 ( The flanges line up on both pieces but you will need to do some cutting to properly install that adapter.

    Exhaust review

Quality product, only hitch was pipe between muffler and cat didn't work on my 98 Cobra. I had to reuse old stainless pipe on my passenger side. It could of been because of my headers, IDK. It had an unnecessary bend, where it should of been more straight. Added more installment time, 3 hours total, due to this.

Only exhaust I will ever buy

Can't go wrong with this awesome exhaust. Pair it up with a BBK Offroad X-Pipe and it will turn heads everywhere you go. In my opinion, this pairing has definitely given me the horsepower gains that it says it would. I still have to get my car tuned and should really feel some power to the wheels then. Hands down the best deep raspy tone combination out there.

    Smooth, not loud

I'm not really sure how long it took me to install, but since the car wasnt going to be going outside in a couple months, I just took my time. Installation was not difficult, the only aspect that really took any time was that the two most rearward hangers on the car were nearly rotted away, so they had to be replaced. The sound at idle is not loud, its not much louder than the factory exhaust, it just has more low rumble. It only shows off its real bite when you get on it a little. The good thing is that I can idle down my street toward home in quiet without waking up anyone or sounding like a douchebag.

    Sounds amazing

I have a 98 cobra and went from stock H and flowmasters, to Magnaflow and upr offroad X. the only complaints I have is it hangs very low at the mufflers (im sure the upr doesnt help as it also comes low). I have speedbumps in my neighborhood and unless im going as slow as i possibly can, i will scrape. Other than that, these sound identical to the flowmasters until 2k rpm, and then they SCREAM. the 2-4k rpm range has to be the best exhaust not ive ever heard. -Kyle

    I do recommend this product.

Everything came with kit needed to install. I did the install in one afternoon . There was a problem with fit. The pipe on drivers side over the axle does not wrap around the gas tank as the stock exhaust did. But it does not hit the tank. The pipe does not go behind the heat shield it goes below it.

    persuasion needed

Had this installed on my 94 V6 and it sounds great!! I used the dual conversion adapter, and with this cat-back the car sounds amazing!! Sounds like a GT, with no raspy noise!! The only issue was that the passenger side needed to be persuaded in a little, because with the V6 the gas tank is a little over to that side.

    Aweful Magnaflow Service

Great Sound, Install was easy, but had a problem with the bolt on Tip, It was a defect but Magnaflow was giving me a hassle about it, I send in many pictures and my warranty but never send me the replacement part. They give you a hassle so you are being discouraged to get your so called lifetime warranty!!

    Doesn't match reputation

I bought this kit due the reputation. MagnaFlow was always highly rated and seemed to build a quality product. Unfortunately that wasn't the case with this kit. The installation was an absolute pain compared to other kits I've installed; the hardware was incorrect for the tips, meaning I had to cut, grind and bend the brackets just to get the tips in the correct spot. Then I had to fight with the over-axle pipe, eventually disconnecting the shocks and dropping the rear-end down, a process I haven't had to do for any other kit. Shortly after installing the kit I noticed the pipes behind the tires were rusting. Overall I was a bit disappointed with MagnaFlow and don't plan on purchasing another Mustang cat-back from them.

    Magnaflow Exhaust

Love the sound of Magnaflow on my 5.0 creates a unique tone that works well with the old push rod motor that isn't so overdone such as flowmasters. No comment about install as I had a shop perform the install, however I can attest to the fact that the hangers can cause issues as I've had to modifiy them when one of them broke, however the muffler and pipe quality is superb, had them on my 5.0 for 3 years now and still look great and no signs of rust.

I have a 96 Gt and I just got rid of my rusting flowmaster super 40s exhaust for this. went on in about 10 min. The tips look great, they flow much better then flowmasters and I'm getting more power and better gas mileage. They're not as loud as the flowmasters but they sound a lot better (they're still pretty loud)and now my car doesn't sound like every other mustang I pass.

    Well worth the $500+

I just installed this yesterday on my '97 cobra. Paired it up with my catted bbk x-pipe. Sounds very, very nice. I think I found the perfect mate for the bbk x-pipe. It slightly got rid of the 2nd gear, 2k rpm range rasp that the bbk x-pipe is known for. Installation was a breeze (3 hours, including the removal of the old catback system, my car was on jack stands, degreasing/cleaning some of the areas). Take you're time! I started rearward as the instructions say. Overall it sounds and looks good. I was a bit worried about the 3.5" tailpipes, maybe being too large and looking trucker status. But they actually look very nice.

This exhaust system is awesome. It sounds great and also got a nice HP increase. I\'m guessing about 5-10 just with the cat-back alone. Best system you can buy.

    Great exhaust, low drone

I installed this on my 98 GT along with a BBK off road X-pipe. From stock, it made a world of a difference on upper RPM. The sound was great, especially since I didn't want a low drone at highway speeds. A friend of mine has the competition Magnaflow setup and X-pipe. At idle, they sound very similar. At upper RPM, his will bark a little harder than this setup. But don't be fooled, This setup with an off road X-pipe sounds AWESOME! Load when you hammer on it, quiet enough when you want it to be.

    Perfect exhaust.

96 Cobra After having an o/r x pipe and SLP LMII's on my GT, i wanted to go with something a little more subtle that still had a bite when ripped on. This exhaust is exactly that. mild idle volume and low volume while cruising but step into a little and this thing screams. The exhaust note is perfect. it is smooth from idle all the way up to redline. theres no certain rpm that sounds bad/good like my SLP had. no drone and can easily carry a conversation while driving. For anyone who wants a performance increase with a mildly aggressive exhaust tone without waking the dead, this is it. fit and finish was great and can easily install in the driveway. took about 2 hours including taking off the old exhaust. BTW, i have this paired with the Magnaflow TruX o/r x pipe.
