This replacement intake has the pre installed gaskets right? Will I need to buy the gasket strip separately and place under the manifold? Or do I just clean it off and set the manifold directly on the metal? Will the pre installed gaskets prevent leaks or do I need a separate gasket strip?

maurrio

  • Yes just set the new intake with the pre installed gaskets directly on the heads after cleaning first of course, the gaskets provided should comply with the oem specifications therefore they should give no problem

What's the difference between this manifold and the one from Ford Racing (Item #24010)? Will the other one perform better or last longer? They look about the same.

progdrummer17

  • This Replacement PI Intake Manifold w/ Gasket Set is an aftermarket replacement for your factory intake manifold for the 1999 to 2004 Mustang GT. The Ford Racing Intake Manifold will be slightly larger and flow better than this factory replacement.

Question Resolved

What are PI(Performance Improved) heads, and how do you know which ones I have? My car is an 01GT w/ factory heads.

Seanmstng

  • PI heads are what Ford called the Performance Improved cylinder heads on the 99-04 4.6L 2v Modular V8. Short version: You have PI heads, while stock 96-98 GT models don't. Long version: The 96-98 SN-95 Mustang GT models used a very similar 4.6L 2v Modular V8, but they only made 215-225 HP stock. With the release of the New Edge models, Ford swapped out the heads for the PI ones, made this better intake manifold to fit them, and swapped out the camshafts for better ones. This brought the engine to 260 HP for 99-04. Outside of these part swaps, the non-PI engines are functionally the same as the PI engines.

Manifold fit on perfect. I no longer have any leaks. Would definetly recommend it. Also it's nice that the aluminum crossover protects it from cracking again. Very pleased with the manifold

    Looks Great

Lots of steps but was an easy install for a backyard mechanic. I took a lot longer than it should but most of that time was spent cleaning and painting .Dealer wanted over 700 for something I did for 200 and a weekend well worth the trouble and the aluminum cross over looks awesome

Budget friendly.....You get what you pay for

It is what it is. I was on a budget and liked that it came pre loaded with the gaskets. Should have spent more on the Ford Racing Pi intake. I say that because the bolt holes on this unit are plastic, no reinforcements like on the factory intake...good luck on not stripping those out eventually. No noticeable gain in power, but it fixed the issue of the cracked coolant crossover and got my ride back on the road.

This is not a direct replacement

The parts fit, however the attachment for the fuel injector rail uses a self tapping type of screw. This is also true of the coil over plug mounts. There are no pre-threaded metal inserts that will allow you to re-use the original mounting screws. An OEM part provides the pre-threaded inserts. It might not sound like a big deal, except on the replacement manifold you can only screw in and out a limited number of times before the screw will not hold, causing another replacement too soon. There is a grounding wire on the OEM that snaps into the top of the fuel injector rail's OEM screw. This manifold does not accomodate the wire in any way. These shouldn't have a limit to the number of times you can remove and reattach the screws. In addition, there were not enough screws included for these different mounts, requiring a trip to the hardware store and an extra hour of time.

    Perfect fit

It's just what it says it is - a perfect replacement for the factory manifold. It fit perfectly and was a simple , albeit, time consuming job. No leaks and no problems to speak of. And as always A.M. was awesome.

I had the notorious broken manifold at the thermostat housing on 2000 GT. Bought this and didn't need anything else it comes with everything, I recommend this to anyone who has the OEM manifold broken or not.

    Best bang for your buck!

I bought this manifold to replace my broken factory intake manifold. Overall this intake was well worth the money, it fit just right an with pre installed gasket installation was a breeze. No noticeable performance gains. Thankfully this came with new bolts because most of my factory bolts were stripped out. Can't beat it for $200.

    Great OEM Replacement Intake Manifold

Overall rating is good, I did have a few leaks once all was together around a few of the seals but that was an easy fix. I do feel a performance gain and it fit right in place with no modifications needed. Yes this is a great bang for your buck, I asked a dealership garage how much for a OEM replacement and the price they told me was just shy of doing an upgrade with the fuel rails and a throttle bodies from AM. Thank you AM for great prices and products.

    Intake manifold

This product was a perfect replacement. I purchased a new thermostat and gasket set that cost $167 before taking off the old intake and found I needed an intake. Had I realized before this that I would spend only $140 more for my new intake that comes with a thermostat and built in gaskets I would have purchased this and been back on the road sooner.

It worked in a time of need

Pros: It was a direct fit It got me back on the road in a time of need No need to buy intake manifold gaskets It came with the alternator bracket The aluminum crossover looks good and gives you further protection against the dreaded cracked thermostat seat. Cons: This is a universal item that is not just for the Ford Mustang, leaving you with extra holes. One side of the aluminum crossover has to be plugged with the provided screw (I'm assuming some cars have the coolant temp sensor on the other side, and this is why there are two holes) The product is cheap. It came warped already, which was corrected when I torqued all of the bolts. There aren't any reinforced bolt holes, they are plastic holes that can be easily stripped if you aren't careful, thankfully the intake plenum holes ARE reinforced. The fuel rail screws that they give you do not allow you to connect the small ground wire on the back drivers side. I ended up force threading the original fuel rail bolts into this intake so that I could still hook up the ground wire. I actually experienced a loss in top end power, that is rather drastic. I used to have no problem pulling to 125-130mph.. after installing this product, I struggle to reach 115 in the same distance. Overall, it is a solid cheap fix if you are just looking to get back on the road, but if you have the funds, do yourself a favor and buy the actual Ford intake manifold. When I have money, I will be replacing this intake. and a side note: This installation is so easy, it took me roughly 4 hours, however almost an hour and a half of my time was spent threading the bolts and making sure to be careful so that I did not strip anything.
