Great

Great Product! It looks really close to the taillight panel on my 73 Mach 1. I was skeptical on the two sided tape, however it is a really firm bond. Super easy to install.

Hi everyone I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, giving your S197 a dose of classic Mach 1 styling thanks to this SHR honeycomb deck lid panel for all 05-09 Mustangs. This honeycomb deck lid panel is designed to be a throwback to the classic stylings of the 70s Mach 1, and really gives the rear end of your ride a dramatic retro facelift, it’s also a nice alternative to the less expensive magnet or vinyl options. The panel itself is molded from durable high impact plastic and is UV resistant so you won’t have to worry about it fading over the years. As you can see on our 2006 GT here, the fitment is absolutely dead on, even down to the center trunk emblem. Usually when you make this big of an impact on styling, usually would involve some expensive body work, drilling or messy bondo. Not with this part, simply clean and prep the area first using the supplied alcohol wipes, remove the backing on the 3M tape, and install carefully. Everything should take you about 30 minutes. Many of you on the site have mentioned the quality and fitment of this piece is top notch, looking at it installed on our own car, it’s easy to see why, it really finishes off the rear of the car well. So if you want to completely alter the rear stylings of your 05-09 without hitting the body shop or dropping big money, you’ll really enjoy this honeycomb deck lid panel from SHR.

Cleaning Anyone have any tips on cleaning this decklid? Dust gets into all the little grooves in mine and I can never seem to get it completely out.

Woods76

  • I use a sprayer that has a fan attachment and that seems to get all the grooves.

Can this deck lid be painted? I was thinking it would look good if it was painted satin silver to match my cars stripes.

Will this fit around the matte black MMD trunk emblem surround?

Copperhead07

  • No, unfortunately it will not fit over the MMD Trunk Emblem Surround without trimming down one or both of the parts. The SHR Honeycomb Deck Lid Panel was designed to fit over the original trunk emblem with minimal gap; adding the MMD Trunk Emblem Surround increases the diameter of the emblem which will consequently not allow it to fit through the opening in the deck lid panel.

    A Real No-Brainer

This is a high quality, easy to install, super dress-up item. It fits better than the magnet-type deck lids (which don't cover the full area) and it looks better than the other deck-lid covers because it's "honeycomb" styling matches the stock front grille. There are also the comparisons with the 70's Mach 1 Mustangs. Great Bang for the Buck! I have had mine on my Mustang for over a year now and there have been no issues with it coming off as the 3M tape sticks great and makes for a really easy install.

    Filling the Gap...Nicely...

While I'm still bemused at how expensive these panels are (in an age when molded plastic is commonplace) this is still another great product from SHR. Packaged safely in lots of good bubblewrap, so it arrived without a scratch, and the directions were clear enough. I should stress a few things. First off, the 3M adhesive is SUPER sticky and strong, so be sure to TAKE YOUR TIME lining it up when installing. Getting it off if you screw up is a major undertaking. Second, as the directions suggest, before removing the tape seals, do a dry test-fit. This will give you all the info you need on how well it's going to go during the final approach. Bending the panel as the directions suggest is HIGHLY recommended. You don't have to bend it much, but doing it just enough to help you align it before sticking anything is important. Lastly, while this product does provide an awesome look to the rear of 05-09 'Stangs, it may also show you that your trunk is misaligned slightly. After installing mine, perfectly aligned with the contours of the trunk lid and the edges, I noticed that when shut there was a larger gap between the panel and the right tail-light, than the left. This, with some careful measurements, proved to be the result of the trunk being misaligned a small bit. Thankfully it's not difficult to adjust your trunk lid. Very happy with product, installation, etc.

    SHR Honeycomb Panel

I originally bought this blackout panel for a 2006 V6. I wanted the back of my mustang to match the honeycomb pattern on the front. Easy to install, just peel the 3M tape back and line it up with the deck lid. These deck lids are tough. I was involved in an accident where I got hit in the back by a Toyota Corolla going 45 mph. I was at a complete stand still waiting for traffic to clear so I can make a left turn into a driveway. The whole back end was crushed enough to the point where my car was declared totalled. Only 3 things were salvagable from that accident; one of them is this blackout panel. I now have it on my 2008 GT, the only thing that I had to do was replace the 3M double sided tape and place it right back onto a decklid that it was made for.

When you want to do it right!

I have messed around with magnets and a few other less expensive options. Was never really happy until now. This totally shores up the back of the vehicle with style. This part of the car is simply too important to cut corners. Where you can get away with it elsewhere on the vehicle at times, not the decklid. It's the heart and soul of the rear appearance. And this is the answer.

    Honeycomb Deck Lid Panel

It was easy to put on, just watch your fingers on the sides of the opening you are going to apply it. Looks good there, changed the appearance of the whole backend. Glad I got it.

    Just the look I wanted!

shipping was fast and painless as usual. it is a nice quality piece, thick plastic and not flimsy. fitment was spot on, nice an tight over the faux fuel door and around the edges. it comes with the 3M tape already on, but i used a little more for reinforcement. make sure to take your time, it will look great and remember to install this when it is warm, preferably above 60 degrees so the tape properly adheres. I recommend this product.
