Do I need anything else to go with this new clutch? Got '03 mustang, I don't like surprices when I take it to get done, thanks for the help, loving d products I just got!


  • With a Spec Clutch, you'll want to get a Spec Flywheel for perfect engagement and clearance. You'll also want to get the Clutch Adjuster Kit to prolong the life of your new clutch and improve shifts. I've attached the link below for the adjuster kit so you can take a look!     Easy Install

    This is a very good stage 1 clutch for an awesome price. It is a stiff clutch but not too stiff. The only problem I have with it is that the stock auto adjuster will not work properly with this clutch. It wants to ratchet down to the last position where the clutch doesn\'t engage until right at the top of the petal. YOU WILL NEED THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CABLE WITH THE FIRE WALL ADJUSTER OR YOU WILL BURN YOUR CLUTCH UP! THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDATION IT IS A FACT!

    Installed SPEC Clutch and Steel Flywheel a month ago. Almost 2000 miles later still have chatter in first and it horrible in reverse. There is no smooth engagement. I've adjusted the clutch cable (MM kit) numerous times.

    Clutch install

    The clutch works great! i can burn out once again! :) ZERO chatter or sqeaking. I will say that the engagement between gears its not as smooth as it was... not sure why, but im assuming it was an error on my part :p

    I read Rob\'s review a month to late. After reading and desiding to go ahead and buy the clutch adjuster kit from American Muscle it was to late :( !!! If you are going to buy a clutch make sure you get a clutch adjuster kit or you will with out a doubt BURN UP YOUR CLUTCH!!! I think i went two months and i relized yesterday that my clutch was slipping, So bottom line , i have to spend another 250 dollars and and like 15 hours of hard labor on the ground pulling a transmission back out !!! GET ADJUSTER OR SUFFER THE SAME PAIN!!!!!

    Throwout Bearing …

    No problems with the clutch its self how ever im very disappointed in the performance of the bearings, 1000 (very easy) miles on the new setup with the bearing being the only problem, Solution? Buy the ford racing bearings!

    Spec clutch

    not very happy with this clutch. I am still breaking it in, but I have alot of chatter when engaging 1st gear. I also get ALOT of loud squeaking whenever I drive!!

    junk bearings in a junk clutch

    Installed the clutch everything went good felt really good, improvement over stock. Drove it easy for a day came onto it a little and I heard a bearing howling. Took it apart and saw that the garbage pilot bearing which was included in the kit had crapped out, i believe the release as well. I bought some ford oem ones as i don't have the time to wait for Ford Racing to be shipped in. I hope the oem ones will be sufficient. I tried contacting Spec but im sure they wont do anything for me so I will have to eat a few hundred bucks to have it installed again. Spend the money on a zoom clutch or centerforce dont cheap out like me, or the extra money you spend taking it out and in will equal that of a good brand.

    Works Beautifully

    I'm using this clutch in combination w/ SPEC Billet Aluminum Flywheel, both operate flawlessly so far (only about 120 miles since install). Zero chatter, pedal feel is slightly lighter than stock, and a little grabbier when engaging 1st. Overall, it feels much more confident than my stock clutch setup (which was only worn about 50% when I replaced it) and perfect for a daily driven car. Highly recommend getting the Billet Aluminum Flywheel to use with this.

    Love it!!!

    Great package the spec and the Quadrant were a great buy. The spec grabs a lot better then the factory clutch and the quadrant in gauges a lot smoother. I don't like it I love it!!!!! :)

    i just got my spec 1 and am waiting for the wear in period b4 i can give it a good run but i do have a adjuster but its taking me time to adjust it right , the engagement don't feel right and the pedal shakes my stock clutch felt better engagement but the spec jumps after each engagement

    Great BUY

    I bought the Spec flywheel along with the kit, although I had to buy a new throw out bearing b/c it broke after 65 miles. Since then I have replaced it and put another 400 miless on the car and everything is great. This is my daily driver and the clutch pedal isnt to stiff. Install is easy.

    flat out terrible..

    clutch chatter since day 1.. never went away, and pull it out 5,000 miles later and burn marks everywhere. Now i'll have to be getting a new flywheel as well as going to a RAM stg3. Don't waste your money on this paper weight.

    leg presses

    cant say its the best clutch. feels like your doing leg presses when driving. installed adj clutch cable, firewall adj and steeda quadrant. spent many hours messing with it and always found its rough putting it into first. THERE IS NO NICE AND EASY WITH THIS CLUTCH.

    SPEC Stage 1 Clutch

    Decent upgrade for 98 cobra. I upgraded to the 11 inch SPEC stage 1 from the stock 98 cobra clutch. This upgrade will require a new flywheel. Pedal is much lighter than stock clutch. Holds well for most NA 98 cobra applications.

    spec clutch

    i have two mustangs both equipped with spec clutches satisfied with both but recomend using ford racing pilot and throwout bearings the specs go out quick and can cause some damage, for the clutch chatter make sure its adjusted proper when first installed some clean up after breakin and i only heard that the stage plus that seem to do it

    04 daily driver

    I've had the clutch before works really great american muscle always has extremely fast shipping the only bad side is the clutch release bearing/throw out bearing is already starting to chatter and squeal only after 100 miles or so I'm Still in the break in period of the new clutch and flywheel so I haven't performed any hard launch's or hard shifts guess I'll be ordering a ford racing TOB

    dont buy this clutch if your looking for a stock smooth clutch!!! chatters like nutz, and now my clutch fork is vibrating!!! 500miles!! dont waste your money on SPEC!!! now i have to pay 400 bucks again to drop the transmission and buy a new clutch !! thanks should bought a mc leod from the beginning!!! its holding the power but the chatter,vibration,noises aint worth it!

    Spec Stage 1

    I'm not impressed. I had a ram in my last mustang and loved it. I decided to go with a spec for my mach 1 because I heard they are better. This clutch chatters more than any clutch I have seen in my life. I called spec and they weren't helpful in the least. The only good thing about this clutch is the feel of it, it is extremely easy to press it in. I resurfaced the fly wheel and got all of the components needed for an aftermarket clutch. This is just a terrible clutch, I definitely recommend a ram clutch over this.

    Excellent clutch

    Great clutch for your N/A mustangs and mild FI stangs. Great grab, much smoother than stock clutch. Once you break it in, you can floor it with no worries of overpowering your clutch. As my mechanic would say "now you can really get jammin' "
