Review & Install Video

Hello and welcome back to Stage 3 of AmericanMuscle’s project Foxbody, as you can see we’re currently out enjoying the fruits of our labor which took place in the first two stages, and for the first time since we started this project, I can honestly say

More Power. Increase the airflow in to your Mustangs 5.0L engine for an improvement in throttle response and more horsepower you can feel with a SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body.

Precision Crafted. This SR Performance Throttle Body is made from a permanent mold casting of 356 aluminum to produce a higher quality casting than conventional sand molds, which reduces porosity for an improved finish.

Application. The SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body is a direct bolt-in replacement for all 1986 to 1993 5.0 Mustangs. A 70MM Throttle Body is a great upgrade for a stock or mildly modified 5.0 Mustang. Reuses the factory Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).

Technical Note. The 1986 to 1993 5.0 Mustangs must run both a throttle body and EGR Plate, with all stock connections functional, to maintain street legal.

Fitment: 1986 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 Details

I have a 1987 LX 5.0 with the Speed Density setup. Will this work with it? I have a 1987 LX 5.0 with the Speed Density setup. Will this work with it? I know many parts will fit correctly, but compatibility with SD is different. I just ordered a new CAM after about 2 weeks of research. I know it would be far easier to get parts i f I switched to MAF, but i (quite frankly) do not want to.

dbente

  • I don't know much about speed density, but I would think that it would. It's basically just a throttle body. Yours has egr, Iab valve and tp sensor on it, doesn't it?

I have a 1992 5.0 gt, I want to get this and a cold air intake, would I need the erg plate or spacer? It's a completely stock car, I just want more of a touchy throttle. Thanks

Joe

  • Yes, your 92 GT comes stock with an EGR spacer so you'll need to buy an after market EGR spacer to pair up with your SR Performance 70mm Throttle Body (86-93 5.0L). We suggest the SR Performance 70mm EGR Spacer (86-93 5.0L) (Item #41100) which you can find here: http://www.americanmuscle.com/sr-70mm-egr-8693.html

Will this work with my cold air intake This might be a dumb question but will my cold air intake fit this TB or do I need to buy a 70mm tube for my air intake as well?

Gtowner

  • As with most after market throttle bodies, it should have a bevel where the spot for the tube is stock size and the blade is larger then stock. So yes it should work for your c.a.I.

    Great throttle response.

As others have mentioned, getting the old egr spacer off was the hardest part of the job. I have the stock plenum and MAF so i'm not getting full benefit possible, but the car is noticeably more quick to respond to the gas pedal. Nice looking expanse of polished aluminum in the engine bay as well.

    Stack Racing 70mm Throttle Body

I purchased this 70mm throttle body for my 1989 Mustang LX Coupe with a built 5.0 in it. The install was fairly easy, I did it by myself. My old throttle body was the dinky stock one, let me tell you putting them side by side is a huge difference in size. Once I put on the new throttle body and EGR Plate it already made my under hood appearance look better with it's great shinny finish from the polished aluminum. I did have to re-use 1 gasket because of the type of aftermarket intake I have (Edelbrock) so it pays off to be careful when going out with the old and in with the new. After it was installed I had to start my car and turn it off a few times to let the computer fix itself and fiddle with the idle screw a bit and then it was good to go. The throttle response after install was much better, it picked up speed faster and made it even easier to break traction at the rear wheels. Hope this review helped. Thanks.

Installed on a stock 5.0 that was lacking the throttle response that I like from carberation. This product installed very easily, Follow the instructions to set the TPS and IAC and it works very well. The throttle response is great and what I was looking for. It even changed the sound to a little deeper tone. Only one issue and that is a sqeek in the linkage hope to get that found and eliminated.

Great Product at a great price

Great quality and finish. Why pay more for other brands. Savings allowed me to buy other parts. I did the whole intake, headers and full tune up so I can say specifics on parts performance but works great and looks good.

    Stuck.

Received it and I put it on, I tried to go and it took me to literally kick the foot feed to open it back up. My warped one didn't even stick that bad.

    Good price!

Better throttle response, looks good under hood. 4 stars because fitment wasn't 100. Had to use a blow torch to warm up the hose that goes from throttle body to intake to make sure it fit.

Things I wish I would have known...

First, I love it! Big gain in power. 1) I wish the information on setting the idle were a little more complete... 2) I wish the site would have recommended I buy a new set of studs with the throttle body. In fact, all new hardware would have been great! You cannot buy the studs locally, not even at Ford (service part only). 3) I wish I would have known how bad the old EGR spacer was going to stick. It took a lot of penetrating oil (Kroil) and a lot of elbow grease to get the EGR spacer to break from from the plenum (without breaking the studs. 4) I wish I would have known how difficult the black grommet fitting for one of the accelerator cables was going to be. It's just a little plastic stud, so I had to be super careful not to break it while exerting a lot of pressure to get it to fit into the grommet. I noticed that the grommet on the old throttle body faced the other direction too. I ended up using the old one to make it work. 5) I got 2 throttle body gaskets ( 2 more came with the EGR spacer for a total of 4) but no IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) gasket. The IAC was supposed to be in the box. Someone picked and packed and didn't double check. You cannot buy one anywhere, so I had to make one from a gasket kit. 6) I wish I would have known I would have to cut half an inch of my cold air intake aluminum tube to make it fit. 7) I wish I would have known that the rubber coupling that connects the throttle body to the cold air intake would be way too small. I did find one I could use at AutoZone. Like the studs, would have been a great recommendation..

    Excellent price, decent quality

Here's the deal, a throttle body is a throttle body. Some have a little better construction than others but as long as it works a SR throttle body is doing the same thing as an Accufab. Buying a cheaper quality throttle body the main thing I am concerned with is vacuum leaks at the throttle shaft bearing as I have seen this problem in the past. This being said I took a chance with SR and mine came fully functional lol.

    Great Throttle body

took me about 1hr 20min to install, i use the stock intake manifold so i had to do some honing to make it all even for the air flow, but that was easy. After install i test drove it and you could tell right away the difference, throttle response was wayy better and a definite gain in HP probably 10-15.
