Review & Install Video

Hey everyone Justin with AmericanMuscle.com here checking out a part that’ll literally transform your ride with the push of a button. That’s right I’m talking about this push button ignition kit for all 2005-2010 Mustangs. This is the exact button used in the almighty Ford GT supercar, and now it can be used to fire up the engine in your ride for a very affordable price. As you can see the button features a brushed metal trim ring which really fits perfectly in the interior of your Mustang. Seems to be impressing a lot of you on the site as well, just about everyone mentioned how much they dug the cool factor of this kit. The button itself installs using the supplied harness and detailed instructions. Now the button takes place in your upper power outlet above the stock radio, so you will need to disassemble the dash slightly to get to the wiring. But there is no need for drilling or anything like that so it’s very straight forward and should take you about 2 hours. So if you’re looking to add a subtle touch of supercar styling and functionality to the interior of your ride, then you’ll definitely want to check out this push button ignition kit.

Push to Start. Now you can give your new 2005 to 2010 S197 Mustang the same cool Push Button Start Ignition system that Exotic Super Cars like the Ford GT come with standard for a fraction of the price.

Easy Operation. The Push Start Ignition Button allows you to simply turn the key to the "on" position and then press the button to unleash to the power of your pony.

Straight Forward Install. The Push Button Ignition kit easily installs in the existing Power Point located in the center of your dash with the included wire harness, so there is no drilling into your dash. The Push Start Ignition is possibly the coolest functional modification you can make to your pony's interior.

keyless??? Do you have to have the key in the ignition in order for the push button to work?

JWright

  • Yes, you have to have the key in the ignition in order to start the car. Just turn the key to the "on" position, and press the start button.

Remote Start? Will this work if you have a per-existing remote start kit installed?

scubatim

  • Yes it will work. There's an option to cut a wire while you're splicing this to ensure that the button is the only way to start--avoid cutting that particular wire if you wish to keep the remote start.

2 questions...please help 1. if the car is being driven and something hits the button or a silly passenger decides to hit, will it turn the car off or is the key the only way to turn the car off?? 2. if the button is pressed twice. will it be like turning the car on AFTER its already on?

MPs197

  • 1. I have mine wired to make the button the only way to start the car (with the key in the on position of course), and I have tried to press the button while my car was on. If the button is pressed nothing shall happen to your mustang, so don't worry about it. 2. If you press the button twice, once again nothing will happen. If any of these things concern you, try it whenever you are not moving.

Push Start Kit The Push start Kit for the 2005 Mustang, once installed, does this only Start the car or do you push again to shut it off?

Weidmansheil

  • This button will only start the car. Once you need the Mustang to shut off, turn the key to the off position and she'll shut down for you.

Dose the key have to be in the ignition all the time? When you install the push button start. Do you have to have the key in ignition in the on position at all times when the car is in motion?

ITERMN8

  • Yes this switch ONLY starts the car. the ignition switch has to be on to start - run - and shut off the motor.

Starting with a key? Once this is installed, can you still start your car with the key normally or will it only start if the button is pushed?

outlookaj

  • Yes. You decide that when installing. The instructions tell you to cut a ignition wire if you want the button only, or to leave it connected so you can use either the button or key. I use the button now without even thinking about it. I left my wire there in case the button ever fails, I can just start with the key.

    Start Button Round Two

This is the second start button I've installed on my Mustang. It has the same issues as the first one. The button will rotate when you push it so sometimes passengers notice the words "Start Engine" are upside down or sideways. Also when you start the car the oil pressure warning will sound for a few seconds.

Good, but I think mine was installed wrong

I know nothing about the electronics of cars, so I had mine done by my local auto sports shop. They said they did a bunch of them. For some reason now I get a "low oil pressure" warning every time I start the car. It's very annoying and I only have run into a handful of stories online where people have the same issue. I'm not sure if they installed it wrong or fried a fuse or something. Other then that it's a fun mod.

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

Certainly sounds like something went wrong during the install. This kit should not cause any warning lights to pop on. I'd suggest taking your Mustang back to the shop, or possibly another shop, to see if they can figure out the underlying cause and get it corrected.

Great Addition to Set Your Car Apart from The Comp.

Easy install except, with the help from my son, we decided to locate the the switch into the panel directly under the window washer handle. Why lose an electrical port when you don't have to? This saved time by not having to remove the radio panel and everything associated with it. Basically we jumped to step 12 with the instrument cluster trim panel. I had to drill the mounting hole and trim the rubber spacer but that was the only mod we had to do and the finished product looks great and it is in the driver cockpit instead of the center of the dash. Pics available!

    Very Good Product

It was the first time I took the inside of my car apart and was a little skeptical at first, but the online instructions were great and made installation very simple! the Push Button kit was great and came with everything to install it. Make sure to file down the back of the hole so the nut can be tightened all the way (this is important). Very pleased with this product and American Muscle for fast shipping!

Was easy to install, but every once in a while it trips a sensor that tells me my oil pressure is low. Looks and functions great though, works as advertised every time I start my car!

Cant stop turning off my car to start it again!

Can't be any easier to install. Initially took me 40 minutes from disassemble to asenble. The next day decided to take it a step further. 1) Cut the green wire allowing only the button to start the car. 2) Installed an aviator toggle switch to initiate activation. I placed the switch to the right of the shifter (required drilling) 3) Installed a 9 digit chrome pin pad from an old F-14 Computer Pad located in the cockpit probably not easy to find, although a skillfull auto/ computer tech could wire an old cell phone key pad. The pad is installed on a cupholder delete and the correct 4 digit pin must be entered for the button to work. 4) Installed a red LED on the left side of the console trim that indicates armed (the left piece that pulls forward after the center console is remover, drilling required). So now you have to flip the power switch which opens the circut to the key pad, enter the 4 digit pin which opens the circuit to the button for 10 seconds. If the button is not pushed you must re-enter the pin, or if the wrong pin is entered 4 times in a row you have to wait 5 minutes to try again. Sounds over kill I am sure but it looks awesome when you start an automatic sequence to fire up your steed. Not to mention deters other people from driving the car, including the Misses. I should mention I am a pilot so I am going for more of a cockpit feel. My only complaint is that my "Low Oil Pressure" screen pops up when starting the car. Hope its just a computer glitch.

    Pretty neat addition.

It looked like it might have been a big job. However, it wasn't that bad. Be sure to file the back and test fit BEFORE you put it all together. And for those of you who usually don't work on cars...DISCONNECT your battery First...this is not in the instructions.

    Great product, but difficult install

I got this product very fast from AM which I loved, and i promptly installed it the next day. The install however was not as easy as they made it out to be if you have some patience you will be able to install it, but if u have no patience let someone else do it for u. other than the install i have had no problems so far and i love the product!

    Not what I expected

The instructions were spot on until you get to the wiring of the ignition switch. It is really hard to splice the "green" and "white" wires when no such wires are present. So I thought perhaps my 09 might be wired like the 2010 models and looked for a blue wire.. but no such luck. It took some researching online to find out the two wires needed are the far outside wires regardless of color. In my case one was gray the other was yellow. Other than that the installation was rather simple and straight forward. It looks good installed and so far works great.

    Whew!

I'm not very good with cars...and I've got a recent itch to work on my 07 stang...let me say that there is no where in the instructions that tell you to disconnect your battery, maybe I should have just known to do so...but I didnt know until step 23 where it told me to reconnect the battery, needless to say when i got it all together and cranked the engine it was dead from thinking the lights were on the whole time... I learn afterwards to just disconnect the headlight control piece from its panel and leave it connected...after getting the battery charged I took it out for a spin only to find out my A/C wasnt working...I got home and turned the car off and started taking it apart again to then realize on radio wasnt going off even with the key out of the ignition and the door open! after some research I learned to disconnect the Neg battery terminal for 30 sec to reset everything. while that was taking place I checked the A/C port and realized the locking clip had broke but was easily fixed....everything is working great as it should! I'm not giving 4 stars for the fact it never said disconnect the battery but I'm not going to score it low because it works and most of my problems were from inexperience...good product!
