To the excitement of some and disappointment of others 1993 brought the last year of the third generation Mustang. For the last year of the Foxbody Ford was still using the high output 302, although Ford switched to cast hypereutectic pistons for all 302 cu in (4.9 L) engines and dropped horsepower rating down to 205. Some say previous year models were actually 205HP due to Ford never updating its BHP figures, others say it was because of Fords new rating methods. The only significant change to the base model 1993’s were a new more powerful stereo system. The Foxbody went out with a bang, offering two
limited edition LX models and the introduction of the Cobra GT. The Cobra offered more horses due to the new GT40 hi-flow heads, camshaft tweak, unique upper and lower intake, and T-5
transmission upgrade which included a tapered roller bearing and phosphate coated gears. Ford marked the end of the Fox Body generation with the Cobra and Cobra R (Race). The Cobra R being a
stripped down race ready version of the Cobra, with removed sound deadening, radio, air conditioning and all other electric accessories. The Cobra came with a 235hp motor with a special intake
allowing for better air flow into the motor resulting in the power gains. The Cobra also received a special sport suspension system designed for road racing from Tokico and also larger brakes to
help stop this beast of a Mustang. Being a limited production car the Cobra came in just three colors; Red, Black, and Teal. While the Cobra R came in only one, Red. There were only 107 produced.
