Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm taking a closer look at BBK's 73mm Throttle Body, fitting the Drive-by-Wire 3.7 L V6, found in all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. The basic function of this Throttle Body is to allow more air into your engine, by replacing your smaller diameter 68mm factory Throttle Body with this larger 73mm unit. Now ultimately you can expect a small bump in power and throttle response. Taking a closer look at the throttle body, you can see that it's been designed and built very well. The body is cast from 356 grade aluminum, and all the internals have been strengthened and gone over as well. A real nice feature of this BBK Throttle Body is that it already includes all of your Drive-by-Wire electronics, which have been pre-installed for you. This makes this a 100% Plug-n-Play bolt-on-and-go mod. Now you can run this Throttle Body bone-stock without a tune or an intake, and still make more power, but this is one of those mods that's greatly benefit from other supporting mods, such as Cold Air Intake Systems, Headers Exhaust, and especially a tune. Another benefit of using this BBK is the ease of install. Now since it already includes all of your Drive-By-Wire electronics, as I already pointed out, you literally unbolt your factory Throttle Body, unplug the sensor, and then re-install the new BBK in reverse order. Doing all of this should take you no more than an hour. So if you're looking to make the most out of your 3.7 L V6, and to complement your other Bolt-Ons, then be sure to check out this 73mm BBK Throttle Body, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Excellent Performance Gains. Replace your restrictive factory throttle body with a BBK Power Plus Series Throttle body that features a generous, free flowing 73mm bore design. It is a simple, direct bolt-on install that does not require any computer tuning to enjoy the newly discovered power you have put on your drive-by-wire pony. Expect to see gains of 15HP.

Quality Construction. This BBK Mustang throttle body is CNC machined from high quality 356 aluminum to ensure OEM quality and a perfect fit. Features like OEM die stamped throttle linkages, double sealed bearings, and o ringed throttle shafts make this throttle body one of best on the market today.

Bolt-On Installation. The BBK Throttle Body is designed for a straightforward installation and features pre-installed electronics making it a no-hassle go fast upgrade with no tune required.

Application. This BBK Power Plus Series 73mm Throttle Body is specifically designed to fit the 2011 to 2017 V6 Mustangs with the 3.7L TiVCT V6 engine.

i have a '14 Pony Package v6 with a Roush CAI Borla ATAK axle back exhaust - will i notice any gains WITHOUT a tune? THANKS IN ADVANCE

Subvet733

  • Yes it will ! I have about the same mods as you have on my 2012. 331 gears, six speed manual, Flowmaster axel backs, Airaid intake tube with Ford racing drop in filter. My last mod was the BBK, and it made a huge difference. It will wake up your mods! The power band is sooooooo much better. I still have the factory tune and wow what a big difference. And if you decide to get a tune later even more power. I know it cost a lot, but you will not be sorry.

    Well Worth It.

While everybody is complaining about the price, I agree, it's a bit too much. However, the moment you start your 'stang, you will hear a noticeable difference and the moment you put your 'stang in drive or first gear, you feel the immediate improved throttle response. I did this mod in about 30 minutes, simple and easy for anyone. I also noticed in previous reviews that almost everybody with an airaid intake had troubles with the fitment, I on the other hand didn't have an issue. The fitment is just the way I like it and I still have room to insert a needle maybe, yes, it's that well fitted. Just make sure you disconnect the negative on the battery :)

    It works well

Super easy 30-40 minute installation. I think the exhaust tone even deepened with this Throttle Body. Maybe there is a 5hp gain, but it was not something you can feel in the seat of your pants while driving. The best thing is this cured my problems with the stock TB; going into limp mode, hesitation when shifting up, CEL P2111. Now Ford has reimbursed me for this throttle body modification under CSP 16B23. If you have bought one of these in the past few months take your receipt to your dealership!

    Great gift

Love the throttle body, I can notice a difference in acceleration getting on highway, deeper tone in the roush axle back also, was a wedding anniversary gift from my wife lol so she definitely made me happy, now just saving up for the bama tuner. I would highly recommend this mod.

Do yourself a favor and just buy this!

I was a little skeptical when reading about the performance gains of this throttle. I figured, how much difference can 5mm make? Let me tell you, it makes a difference! From the moment I disconnected the stock 68mm throttle and held it up to this 73mm one, I knew I made the right decision. Install only took about 30 min and I was back on the road. Though I'm not launching at every stop, my pony definitely does not feel like its lagging anymore. More air = more fun. If you're thinking about installing an aftermarket CAI, or already have one, pair it with this to let your pony breathe better.

    Installed easy Needs Torque Specifications

Mine has some amount of corrosion, seen in photos I posted. I also bought a CAI (Air Raid) that I had to use die grinder and open up the silicone boot as it would not fit over this larger throttle body. Increased the sound level more throaty and has better response. My MPG prior was 30.2 in last 2 tanks and over 4000 average was 29.9 MPG ave. Not enough miles on this to know if it increases or decreases MPG.

    Definitely notices some great changes!

Installation was pretty simple, took me slightly longer because I was installing an Airaid cold air intake at the same time. Which if you go with their 2015-2016 closed air intake I will warn you that getting the reducer/coupler onto the the throttle body is a real pain, had to actually re-use the factory clamp because of the larger diameter. Together with the CAI intake I've noticed a huge difference in throttle response and picked up a few more mpgs on my fuel economy, the 2016 V6 is rated around 28 high way, and I'm averaging 28 on rural roads with a few stops and 33mpg on the highway. I can't praise this throttle body enough, if you're on the fence, yo should jump for it!

Well worth it - fantastic product!

Ok, so I just got this 73mm throttle body today, installed it, and drove quite a while with different driving styles. I absolutely love this, and there are gains in many different areas! I did install 410 gears in my car, so I think that makes this throttle body even more awesome. With these gears, I imagined that this throttle body could aid in my situation, versus when I had the 273s. Fortunately, this has proven to be true! (I would do gears and cai before this if I still had 273 gears)…I also live in high altitude, (close to Denver, co. – mile high city), so air has been a problem for me. I have an auto, and the only way I can pull great power, is to go into select shift. In one test, at around 40mph, I hit 2nd, and it took off like a rocket with a wheel chirp (not quite redlining when I hit 3rd), so I know for a fact that this has never happened before. In gear 1 from a stop, I shut the traction control off, then shut stability control off (hold brake, hold stability control button for around 5 seconds, then on the dash it will say ‘stability control system off’ – you may have to try a few times as my car varied from 3-10 seconds on the button press thing) – With these two systems off, I applied full throttle and it did burn rubber! – This never happened before either, as the brake had to be applied in the past to do this. Definitely noticed power increases throughout the band with my setup, so I am very happy! My setup is 410s, bbk cai, bbk 73mm throttle body, 91 race tune from bama. In terms of how drastic the power is, for me, I certainly noticed it, and there was an extra edge there that was not there before I got this throttle body. For me, when I consider dollars per HP/TQ increases, this has been well worth it! – Hope this helps!

Tight fit, just the way we like it!

Very tight fit with Roush CAI, but overall great, no complaints. NO ROOM FOR SPACER THOUGH! I wish I could get the throttle body spacer in there but there is just not room or flexibility... A little pricey for the little bit that you get, but not too bad of a buy

A little pricey for what it is, but the performance upgrades are so awesome that its definitely worth it. It fits the Airaid CAI, but the rubber hosing was very difficult to wrap around this larger throttle body. Had to cut a small 1/2 inch slit in the hosing to fit it over. But overall, a great addition to performance aspect of my ride.

    733 throttle body

Very easy install... silicone spray needed to help install the intake boot and the new body. Once that is done the rest is very simple. Expect to feel the difference the first time you drive. Noticeable increase in HP and torque. A 10 refund is available from BBK making this a great buy.

    MORE POWER

This made a big difference on the top end, more air equals more power right. It was an easy install, fit my existing Airaid CAI, you will have to take your CAI completely apart to get this item installed so don't fuss with trying to install it without first removing the CAI. But all in all great investment.

    excellent power for money

This new throttle body and new CAI (Stynthax Max Dry Filter) really make for a nice sound. Installation was straight forward and easy to follow. I felt an increase in power and saw a bit of an MPG increase. Well worth the time and $$.. Really love the sound that these added. a deeper sound @ low RPM and a better roar when I open it up. Shipping was quick, delivery was fast. Need a shifter now .....

    My best mod so far

So far on my 2013 v6 Pony, I've done the easy peasy CAI and retune, plus a few other things. In terms of intake, this is by far the best mod I've done. The difference is very dramatic. The car runs smoother, shifts smoother and didn't diminish (or enhance) the growl from the CAI install and retune. I don't have access to a Dyno run, but to say this added 10-15hp? I could easy say it feels like 10hp at least. HIGHLY recommended. I know I'm benefiting from the CAI install in conjunction with this new throttle body, but I know the new TB has added a lot. The only issue for me was getting the Airraid CAI rubber coupling to fit over the larger 73mm opening versus the 68mm opening of the stock TB. That literally took me 20mins. Otherwise, I would have had this entire install done in about 40 mins, including dropping a bolt down the intake tubing coming up from the grill. I had to remove and re-install the entire CAI to get this done and it still was done in 40 mins. Also, a carry arm of some sort coming over the factory intake needed to be fastened with a fastener I had to create myself. The computer clip-in anchor on the side of the TB needed a new tie wrap after I was forced to clip the old one, but I still was able to use the stock plastic anchor screw. NBD.

    A Nice Addition

It took me about a hour and a half to install. It would have taken me less time, but nothing wanted to come out easily. After the install, i noticed a few improvements. first, I noticed that my exhaust was louder and deeper. Really sounds nice! I also noticed a increase in throttle response. But most of all, I noticed a very nice power gain from about 2200-4700 RPM. The car really pulls in those revs now, and boy is it fun! Overall, it's a great product that is totally worth the money and time.
