Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm taking a closer look at BBK's 73mm Throttle Body, fitting the Drive-by-Wire 3.7 L V6, found in all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. The basic function of this Throttle Body is to allow more air into your engine, by replacing your smaller diameter 68mm factory Throttle Body with this larger 73mm unit. Now ultimately you can expect a small bump in power and throttle response. Taking a closer look at the throttle body, you can see that it's been designed and built very well. The body is cast from 356 grade aluminum, and all the internals have been strengthened and gone over as well. A real nice feature of this BBK Throttle Body is that it already includes all of your Drive-by-Wire electronics, which have been pre-installed for you. This makes this a 100% Plug-n-Play bolt-on-and-go mod. Now you can run this Throttle Body bone-stock without a tune or an intake, and still make more power, but this is one of those mods that's greatly benefit from other supporting mods, such as Cold Air Intake Systems, Headers Exhaust, and especially a tune. Another benefit of using this BBK is the ease of install. Now since it already includes all of your Drive-By-Wire electronics, as I already pointed out, you literally unbolt your factory Throttle Body, unplug the sensor, and then re-install the new BBK in reverse order. Doing all of this should take you no more than an hour. So if you're looking to make the most out of your 3.7 L V6, and to complement your other Bolt-Ons, then be sure to check out this 73mm BBK Throttle Body, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

does with work with the air raid throttle body spacer? I have the air raid throttle body spacer and I'm looking to buy the bbk throttle body and either the c&l CAI or the bbk CAI. Thank you

bobbyyliight

  • The Airaid spacer will only work with the stock throttle body. If you wanted to install the BBK throttle body or any brand throttle body, they couldn't be used together.

Will this fit with an Air Raid CAI? I already have a Air Raid CAI for the 2012 V6. I am wondering if it is possible to add this as well. I understand it may be difficult, but I would surely purchase if I knew it is possible. Thanks

    Installed easy Needs Torque Specifications

Mine has some amount of corrosion, seen in photos I posted. I also bought a CAI (Air Raid) that I had to use die grinder and open up the silicone boot as it would not fit over this larger throttle body. Increased the sound level more throaty and has better response. My MPG prior was 30.2 in last 2 tanks and over 4000 average was 29.9 MPG ave. Not enough miles on this to know if it increases or decreases MPG.

Well worth it - fantastic product!

Ok, so I just got this 73mm throttle body today, installed it, and drove quite a while with different driving styles. I absolutely love this, and there are gains in many different areas! I did install 410 gears in my car, so I think that makes this throttle body even more awesome. With these gears, I imagined that this throttle body could aid in my situation, versus when I had the 273s. Fortunately, this has proven to be true! (I would do gears and cai before this if I still had 273 gears)…I also live in high altitude, (close to Denver, co. – mile high city), so air has been a problem for me. I have an auto, and the only way I can pull great power, is to go into select shift. In one test, at around 40mph, I hit 2nd, and it took off like a rocket with a wheel chirp (not quite redlining when I hit 3rd), so I know for a fact that this has never happened before. In gear 1 from a stop, I shut the traction control off, then shut stability control off (hold brake, hold stability control button for around 5 seconds, then on the dash it will say ‘stability control system off’ – you may have to try a few times as my car varied from 3-10 seconds on the button press thing) – With these two systems off, I applied full throttle and it did burn rubber! – This never happened before either, as the brake had to be applied in the past to do this. Definitely noticed power increases throughout the band with my setup, so I am very happy! My setup is 410s, bbk cai, bbk 73mm throttle body, 91 race tune from bama. In terms of how drastic the power is, for me, I certainly noticed it, and there was an extra edge there that was not there before I got this throttle body. For me, when I consider dollars per HP/TQ increases, this has been well worth it! – Hope this helps!

    Massive improvements!!

This throttle body definitely awoke my sleeping beauty!! Throttle is a lot more responsive and there is a major pull now especially when you go flat out. A little pricey for what it is, but the performance upgrades are so awesome that its definitely worth it. It fits the Airaid CAI, but the rubber hosing was very difficult to wrap around this larger throttle body. Had to cut a small 1/2 inch slit in the hosing to fit it over. But overall, a great addition to performance aspect of my ride.

    What a differance

I am not sure what Mr I"m a mechanic was talking about when he said his stang ran rough at first and his check engine light came on when he installed this TB. I installed it which only took about 20 min start to finish and I work on computers all day. But My stang ran just fine after installing it. I have a C&L cold air intake , bama tuner, and a TB spacer and everything fit fine. It was a little tough to get the rubber hose that connects the TB with the intake tube though as the new TB is Larger so that one hose needs to be stretched a little but it will go on. Now for performance gains between 2000-3500rpm i can tell that there is definitely more power. It is way easier to lay a patch from a dead stop just hitting the gas (with out doing a brake stand). It has also improved throttle response a lot. Not that it was bad before but now its like the throttle response you get from a Nissan VQ engine in a 370z its tap and go response. If your not convinced about the power gains you can go to www.bbkperformance.com to see the dyno run video they did. It shows hp gain of 12.8hp and 18.96 ft-lbs at around 3500 rpm and 4.72hp and 8.38 ft-lbs on the high end Its pretty cool. Hope this review helps...Ooh ya I Also Highly recommend buying all your mustang purchases at American Muscle the prices and service CAN NOT BE BEAT and the added value of free shipping its the perfect place for all your MUSTANG NEEDS. Thank you American Muscle for another great product :)

    Awesome upgrade

I installed this bbk tb a week ago and I'm loving it, not only did it change the sound of the exhaust but it has also improved throttle response nicely and had noticible hp/tq gains, and i also got to keep my airaid throttle body spacer aswell which is awesome, one review I read said they would not fit and I'm telling you, THEY DO!!!!

    Throaty sound with my Airraid

Hardest partook install was getting my Airraid out of the way and it still took less than an hour. Definitely improved low end torque. Had to learn how drive the car again as 1st to 2nd can light up the tires a lot easier now. This product, my Airraid and the Bama tune are a great combination for fun.

Quick, Easy, Nice Sound and Response

Took only a few minutes. trickiest part was removing the two sensors lol. i have this installed with the steed pro flow. noticed a much deeper note of the tone on the intake and exhaust and throttle response increased nicely. Fit was tight with the intake but can be done fine. just work your way up from the bottom and you'll be fine. definitely is worth doing with an intake, as i was able to see through my diablo tuner that a lot more air was being fed to my engine throughout the whole rpm range. i have a video on youtube of how it sounds. check it out. username is pfmustang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9GpgWrtKgE&feature=plcp

    its good

Installed in 20 mins. I have tune, C&L cai, 3.73 and now this. More power is definitely there, but there is a short window. There is a bbk dyno chart out there that shows most gains is between 2k-4.25 rpms. So max hp is only increased 5 and 8tq. Throughout the dyno curve there is a peak of 13hp and 18tq, and its pretty constant between those rpms that I mentioned. This TB is most beneficial for quicker acceleration. And boy do you feel the it. It also gives my stock exhaust a deeper, slightly louder sound. For me, one super cool thing is that after installing this, I now chirp going into 3rd now, in my auto! Before i only chirped going into 2.
