Hi I am just wondering why this SR spacer will fit with a Airaid CAI, But the Airaid spacer will not work? What is the difference? Sorry I'm a newbbie to all this!! I have a 2014 3.7 and would like to start with these two MODS. If I can?

TammyP

  • Both the SR Performance Throttle Body Spacer and the Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer are physically able to be installed with a cold air intake, however this will move the throttle body outward, thus moving the mounting location for the CAI, because of this you can have fitment issues, or create a restriction if the couplers Kink. Airaid does not recommend this with their CAI, whereas SR Performance will advise it is possible, but additional care must be made during install to ensure everything is correct.

Will this work with a bbk throttle body ?

  • This throttle body spacer will only work for the factory throttle body.

Please excuse the ignorance, but what exactly is this good for? I am not quite sure what this is exactly, I just find it intriguing because it says it improves performance. Also Will this work with the aftermarket cold air intake?

StangBoy

  • By increasing your plenum size behind the throttle body, we have found that this was able to create a little bit better of an airflow which ultimately lead to a small increase in power in the low to mid RPM range. I personally would recommend rather than purchasing this item, putting this money towards the BBK 73mm Throttle Body (11-17 V6) Item 56146 http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-85mm-throttlebody-112v6.html. The stock throttle body size is 68mm and by increasing your size throttle body you are now allowing more air to flow into the motor which ultimately leads to more performance throughout the entire power curve!

Will this fit with an aftermarket CAI? I have an Air raid cold air intake on my 2014 3.7, and I was wondering if this would fit, and if there would be any benefit of adding this? Thanks for your input!

  • Yes, it'll fit.

How does this even add HP? Does AM have real data that shows the before and after? How does the incoming air for improved atomization of the air fuel mixture for better combustion. When the air has to go throw another camber.

    SR Throttle Body Spacer

I just put the spacer on today (01/19/14) and I can definitely feel an increased throttle response, which personally was what I was looking for. I do hear a small whistle when I let the horses open up which is pretty cool. I did notice that my car does idle a little lower too. I took it up on a highway minutes after I installed it and my car seems to coast and cruise easier which may be where the increased mileage may eventually come in to play. Overall, installation was simple. It's pretty straight forward, even without directions but it's still worth looking over.

    VERY Surprised at the difference

Ok, I am not a gear-head for sure. I have done my own maintenance for years on my F150, but no performance work so I was really hesitant that this little ring would do anything. But all the reviews said it was the real deal and I was looking for a minor tweak for my Mustang. WOW, What a difference! It seemed to take a couple of days to really become apparent. I am assuming it is maybe the brain re-tuning based on the new air flow??? But on Day 3 I put my foot down to get in the fast lane and suddenly I got a growl I had never heard from the engine bay before, and definitely a slightly harder kick in the seat. Completely worth the money. Also silly easy to install. I didn't even have to change the hose connection, the '15 is slightly different from the '14 this was designed for. Being a picky guy I do wish AM would get this specifically for the '15, but other than that it is awesome!

SR Performance TBS Install with an AIRAID Modular Intake Tube

I previously installed an AIRAID Modular Intake Tube (MIT) and because of its' rigidity was concerned about fit since the TB is going to be moved closer to the stock air box by the thickness of the TB spacer. All parts were present and in good condition. I reviewed the instructions. After removing the AIRAID MIT and stock TB the SR TBS was installed, a new gasket and the stock TB. Note you will need an 8 mm socket to remove the TB but a 10 mm to install the new longer bolts. Be careful not to over torque them. Installation of the AIRAID MIT was attempted but would not allow placement of the air box cover due to the added length from the TBS. So I removed the thickness of the TBS (5/8 inches) from the rubber connection on the air box side of the MIT (see pic.). This step was discussed with the AIRAID techs before the installation began. Initially I used an Exacto knife but found a heavy duty scissor to be better and safer way of cutting the reinforced rubber fitting from AIRAID. Now everything fit perfectly... Test drive results (1) subjectively. the off the line performance was noticeably improved, (2) there was no whistle during rapid acceleration or constant highway driving at 65 mph (3) the throttle response was improved in the normal driving range (under 3,000 RPM).

Good Mod for People who aren't trying to go over the top

The throttle body spacer is a good modification if you're looking for a small power gain for a decent price. The installation took about 15 mins on my 2015. You might need a power drill with a socket attachment to break the bolts easily. Another thing is the longer hose that is supplied with the spacer will not fit the 2015 so please LEAVE THE STOCK HOSE ON! Just take the tape off of it from the top of the throttle body so it can reach the intake manifold. You'll know it when you see it. Gas mileage might improve depending on your driving style, but i gained 2-3 like they said, I get 19.3 mpg regularly driving now. There is a noticeable sound difference along with a faster throttle response between 2500-4000 rpm in wide open throttle that in my opinion makes it sounds more like a race car. As for torque and hp, I can't be sure if there is a noticeable gain, but I'm not saying there is none at all (not to discourage those from buying). It's all down to what you're willing to spend for performance gain. Overall, I think it is a good product for those not wanting to spend a lot.

    Not completely worthless...

Other than smoothing out the 3.7L engine during tip-in and at idle, this product is lacking any real performance gain.

    Noticeable Difference

The SR performance throttle body spacer is awesome it's a simple install did it in the garage in about 30 minutes maybe less. It gives you noticeable improvement in acceleration right away no more lag in sports mode seems to make the engine run smoother. Worth the purchase.

    Great Part for the Money

I have bought many parts for my mustang. But the spacer is the most bang for you buck as far as I'm concerned. When I was checking it out and reading the reviews I thought ok if I get a little better performance I'll go ahead and buy it. Once it arrived I put it in. It was a tight fit since I have an airaid already, but it does fit. When I first got on the road with it what a difference, I had better throttle response, along with better gas mileage and it also sounds better. So I will tell anyone who is thinking of getting it, go ahead you won't regret it.

    SR Performance TBS Observations

Packaging: Includes the TBS, TBS gasket, longer bolts / washers, hose adapter, and directions in a small cardboard box. The TBS had a few scratches (apparently from machining) but otherwise seems like a solid piece of billet aluminum. Installation: Took about 20 minutes to install by removing the intake tube / TB, adding the TBS (with gasket), and using the longer bolts. Covered the intake manifold with a bag to make sure nothing got inside. Regarding the 2015 V6 Mustang specifically, the hose design is different but I used the stock one without any issues. The TBS almost looks like a factory piece and subtly improves under-hood appearance. Performance: Noticed slightly improved low range torque and smoother shifting. There is also a slight whistle sound upon acceleration. It is too early to tell what effect on fuel economy it will have but if it is similar to a TBS I installed on my last Mustang it should be a 1-3 MPG improvement. Overall: A great little mod for the money which can improve performance and economic characteristics of the solid 3.7L Cyclone.

    Fits great, but that's all

After installing this, which took me less than 30 minutes, the only thing I noticed was the whistle it creates when stepping on the throttle. My car has already got a Bama tune on it, so my throttle response issues were already gone. I was expecting some kind of torque increase as was advertised, but there was no noticeable difference. Should've saved my money for the BBK throttle body.

More Torque for a few bucks

I didn't even remove the intake tube, but it would have been even easier if you did. Every thing was included to do the job. I noticed better response when at a dead stop and step on gas peddle. Don't see any gas mileage yet, but can't keep my foot out of the gas. Even noticed harder shift between gears. Was well worth it for 3.7L V-6

A little improvement for a little money

I bought this part expecting a small bump in mpg more than any hp or torque gains and got just that. The changes in power weren't really noticeable, if any, but I have gained an increase of about 2 mpg city & 3 mpg highway so ultimately the part will pay for itself. There was another benefit to me that was unexpected. I have a CAI and Pype Bomb axle backs and adding the spacer took a lot of the drone out of the tone of the pipes. For $90, I feel it was a worthwhile investment

Junk, go with the Airaid spacer for a little more, snapped the first bolt off in 3 secs, hadn’t even gotten to torquing them yet, please don’t buy cheap parts I don’t want others having the same issues I did, or go buy separate hardware which may help

    Umm

By what ive found out from phone calls, the sr and airaid are not made for cars after 2014. My 16 hesitates with either at higher rpms and also reduces mpg and hp.

    Quick easy mod

An easy to install part and it gives you a little boost. I have a BBK 73mm throttle body and a Airaid intake and it works well. Putting the intake back will require a little more effort since it's a tighter fit with the spacer added.

    Pretty cool

Easy to install, I was able to put with a air aid CAI, it was a tight fit, but not that bad if you put on the throttle body side last. It makes a cool whistle sound that's fun to hear. I didn't feel too much of a difference, stang is now slightly more responsive.

I wasn't looking for so thing expensive to do and to still notice a difference. This TB spacer is perfect! Right around 2000 rpms it has the most satisfying whistle I could ask for. As for preformans not much has changed but still a great buy in my opinion!
