    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm taking a closer look at BBK's 73mm Throttle Body, fitting the Drive-by-Wire 3.7 L V6, found in all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. The basic function of this Throttle Body is to allow more air into your engine, by replacing your smaller diameter 68mm factory Throttle Body with this larger 73mm unit. Now ultimately you can expect a small bump in power and throttle response. Taking a closer look at the throttle body, you can see that it's been designed and built very well. The body is cast from 356 grade aluminum, and all the internals have been strengthened and gone over as well. A real nice feature of this BBK Throttle Body is that it already includes all of your Drive-by-Wire electronics, which have been pre-installed for you. This makes this a 100% Plug-n-Play bolt-on-and-go mod. Now you can run this Throttle Body bone-stock without a tune or an intake, and still make more power, but this is one of those mods that's greatly benefit from other supporting mods, such as Cold Air Intake Systems, Headers Exhaust, and especially a tune. Another benefit of using this BBK is the ease of install. Now since it already includes all of your Drive-By-Wire electronics, as I already pointed out, you literally unbolt your factory Throttle Body, unplug the sensor, and then re-install the new BBK in reverse order. Doing all of this should take you no more than an hour. So if you're looking to make the most out of your 3.7 L V6, and to complement your other Bolt-Ons, then be sure to check out this 73mm BBK Throttle Body, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Excellent Performance Gains. Replace your restrictive factory throttle body with a BBK Power Plus Series Throttle body that features a generous, free flowing 73mm bore design. It is a simple, direct bolt-on install that does not require any computer tuning to enjoy the newly discovered power you have put on your drive-by-wire pony. Expect to see gains of 15HP.

Quality Construction. This BBK Mustang throttle body is CNC machined from high quality 356 aluminum to ensure OEM quality and a perfect fit. Features like OEM die stamped throttle linkages, double sealed bearings, and o ringed throttle shafts make this throttle body one of best on the market today.

Bolt-On Installation. The BBK Throttle Body is designed for a straightforward installation and features pre-installed electronics making it a no-hassle go fast upgrade.

No Tune Required. These Power Plus Series Throttle Bodies are designed to work with a factory tune in most cases. Depending on ECM sensitivity on your model and other modifications, a tune is sometimes recommended. While it's not normally required, a tune will not only allow the vehicle to work with certain aftermarket add ons but will also improve overall performance of your entire array of upgrades to work together as a whole and can normally update such items as the factory torque limit functions.

CARB Certified. Best of all, this BBK Throttle Body is 50 State Legal for the 2011-2014 Model Years under CARB EO Number: D-245-17.

Application. This BBK Power Plus Series 73mm Throttle Body is specifically designed to fit the 2011 to 2017 V6 Mustangs with the 3.7L TiVCT V6 engine.

Stock 68mm to this 73mm. That is only 5mm more. Is that miniscule amount really going to give gains of 15HP? I doubt it..

        • This alone will not gain upwards of 15 HP. As stated in the video above, this working in unison with other supporting mods will give you a larger increase in power.

Will I need to update my tune for this?

        • This BBK TB does not require a tune after installation. However, getting a tune will offer you the best performance from the upgrade! If you already have Bama tunes (even if you didn't have a tuner/tunes yet), I'd highly recommend getting updated tune files to include this TB. Your engine will be getting increased air flow and letting your computer know that will only help improve power!

Will this work with the JLT Intake? I have a JLT Intake on my 2012 V6 and I am looking into getting this throttle body, and wasn't sure if it would fit right or if i needed to change/modify the piping that came with the Intake.

        • It will fit the same as stock just a bit tighter that's all :)

Will this fit with an Air Raid CAI? I already have a Air Raid CAI for the 2012 V6. I am wondering if it is possible to add this as well. I understand it may be difficult, but I would surely purchase if I knew it is possible. Thanks

        • yes, if you look at the pictures for this product, there is picture of a car with an air raid CAI and BBk throttle body.

Is there a throttle body spacer that is available that will work with this throttle body?

        • If you are looking for a throttle body spacer that will work with the BBK 73mm Throttle Body (11-17 V6), look no further than the SR Performance Throttle Body Spacer (11-17 V6) item #41337 (www.americanmuscle.com/sr-throttle-body-spacer-1114v6.html). This spacer connects directly to the throttle body to give your Mustang more power by increasing plenum volume.

I just bought my '12 V6 in December and am already having issues. One of them happened today where, at 45mph, the car violently jerked, the dash wrench light came on and while the car didn't stall, I had zero throttle response. I coasted to the side of the road w/ my hazards on and shut the car off. After checking fluids, etc, I was able to start it back up without issue and continue driving to work. A quick google turned up known issues with factory throttle bodies on a lot of 2010/11/12 Ford cars, including Mustangs. My simple question is, will this fix that? 1 answer

I bought and installed this and thought I felt a positive change in performance. However, a guy a local tuning/performance shop said swapping your throttle body for a larger one has no affect and is essentially a “paperweight”. He also feels ill get better results from adding a cold air intake and getting it tuned. Is this credible? 1 answer

            BBK throttle body install

I just received and installed my BBK throttle body. Installation is just as described on the American Muscle video, but you need to download the instruction from BBK as you have to sync your gas pedal to the throttle body. It's a simple procedure only takes about 2 minutes but without it your computer doesn't know the throttle position to the new throttle body and will try to change the idle leading to poor running possible check engine lights. Also give it about a hundred miles to fine-tune itself before passing judgment.

Probably took about 20 minutes to install, notable low end gains and a more smooth shift with what seems to be less power loss between shifts. Would recommend Current mod list with the 73mm throttle body BBK short headers Ford racing x-pipe MAGNAFLOW comp axle backs Ingen CAI

            High Rev @ Idle

I installed it, quick and simple. Attached easily to my Airaid CAI (I was worried the Throttle Body outlet would be too large). Then started the engine and instantly revved up to around 3K and wouldn't come down. Tried driving it but the high rev had me concerned so I didn't leave the neighborhood. Before installation I took the tune from MPT 91 Performance W/Ghost Cam back to stock, then disconnected the battery and installed the TB. I can't find anything on the web, your site, forum boards or BBK's site to help me. Soooo, there it sits in my garage with my stock TB installed. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

            Reliable 1 year in.

Mods are a CAI and tune. Unfortunately the throttle body spacer was not compatible with this product. With the mods noted, the throttle body does not make any difference as far as performance is concerned. Maybe it would if there was no tune. Being that the tune did not need to be adjusted after the larger throttle body was installed, I'm not sure how much this mod alone would net, but I can say with a tune and CAI there was no improvement.

            Smooth Performance

Product works great. Smooth throttle response and has improved the low end performance noticeably. It is a tight install on the stock rubber boot but it is doable with a little patience. Would definitely recommend this product.

            HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Okay, so I’ve had two of these and neither one worked properly. The first one would not allow the engine to idle properly and violently shook the motor. Second one let it idle, but was very loud and stuttered. Reduced power about 15 hp and engine ran terrible. I’ve had trust issues with BBK recently. These are going back and I’m getting a refund

            Great Mod!!

Install took about 15 minutes. All you really need is an 8mm socket or wrench and a beer. Before install, be sure to disconnect the battery. After new Throttle Body has been installed and the battery reconnected. Turn on your Mustang and drive it around SLOWLY. Give your Mustang time to acclimate to the new change. After about 5-10min. GUN IT and you will feel the push. Hoorah! American Muscle!

            great!!

So I've clearly noticed an increase in performance and throttle response. The only issue that has occurred is a P2282 code (air leak from throttle body and intake valve) has occurred and having difficulty determining if it's a mechanical issue or my computer just bugging out due to the increase of air flow.

Great fit and finish. I've had cars where changing the air filter was more complicated. I can't say that there is a horse power increase, but the throttle response is definitely noticeable.
