    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with, and I'm taking a closer look at BBK's 73mm Throttle Body, fitting the Drive-by-Wire 3.7 L V6, found in all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. The basic function of this Throttle Body is to allow more air into your engine, by replacing your smaller diameter 68mm factory Throttle Body with this larger 73mm unit. Now ultimately you can expect a small bump in power and throttle response. Taking a closer look at the throttle body, you can see that it's been designed and built very well. The body is cast from 356 grade aluminum, and all the internals have been strengthened and gone over as well. A real nice feature of this BBK Throttle Body is that it already includes all of your Drive-by-Wire electronics, which have been pre-installed for you. This makes this a 100% Plug-n-Play bolt-on-and-go mod. Now you can run this Throttle Body bone-stock without a tune or an intake, and still make more power, but this is one of those mods that's greatly benefit from other supporting mods, such as Cold Air Intake Systems, Headers Exhaust, and especially a tune. Another benefit of using this BBK is the ease of install. Now since it already includes all of your Drive-By-Wire electronics, as I already pointed out, you literally unbolt your factory Throttle Body, unplug the sensor, and then re-install the new BBK in reverse order. Doing all of this should take you no more than an hour. So if you're looking to make the most out of your 3.7 L V6, and to complement your other Bolt-Ons, then be sure to check out this 73mm BBK Throttle Body, right here at

Excellent Performance Gains. Replace your restrictive factory throttle body with a BBK Power Plus Series Throttle body that features a generous, free flowing 73mm bore design. It is a simple, direct bolt-on install that does not require any computer tuning to enjoy the newly discovered power you have put on your drive-by-wire pony. Expect to see gains of 15HP.

Quality Construction. This BBK Mustang throttle body is CNC machined from high quality 356 aluminum to ensure OEM quality and a perfect fit. Features like OEM die stamped throttle linkages, double sealed bearings, and o ringed throttle shafts make this throttle body one of best on the market today.

Bolt-On Installation. The BBK Throttle Body is designed for a straightforward installation and features pre-installed electronics making it a no-hassle go fast upgrade with no tune required.

CARB Certified. Best of all, this BBK Throttle Body is 50 State Legal for the 2011-2014 Model Years under CARB EO Number: D-245-17.

Application. This BBK Power Plus Series 73mm Throttle Body is specifically designed to fit the 2011 to 2017 V6 Mustangs with the 3.7L TiVCT V6 engine.

Will this work with the JLT Intake? I have a JLT Intake on my 2012 V6 and I am looking into getting this throttle body, and wasn't sure if it would fit right or if i needed to change/modify the piping that came with the Intake.

    • It will fit the same as stock just a bit tighter that's all :)

Will this fit with an Air Raid CAI? I already have a Air Raid CAI for the 2012 V6. I am wondering if it is possible to add this as well. I understand it may be difficult, but I would surely purchase if I knew it is possible. Thanks

    • yes, if you look at the pictures for this product, there is picture of a car with an air raid CAI and BBk throttle body.

Will I need to update my tune for this?

    • This BBK TB does not require a tune after installation. However, getting a tune will offer you the best performance from the upgrade! If you already have Bama tunes (even if you didn't have a tuner/tunes yet), I'd highly recommend getting updated tune files to include this TB. Your engine will be getting increased air flow and letting your computer know that will only help improve power!

Is there a throttle body spacer that is available that will work with this throttle body?

    • If you are looking for a throttle body spacer that will work with the BBK 73mm Throttle Body (11-17 V6), look no further than the SR Performance Throttle Body Spacer (11-17 V6) item #41337 ( This spacer connects directly to the throttle body to give your Mustang more power by increasing plenum volume.

Why is it the Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer recommended by the website when the staff says it won't work together with the bkk throttle body. Also has any got any feedback on this combo?

    • Hello! The Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer is recommended as a product "you might also like," giving an alternative to those who may not be interested in upgrading their throttle body. The throttle body bolts are not long enough to install the two items together.

      What a differance

I am not sure what Mr I"m a mechanic was talking about when he said his stang ran rough at first and his check engine light came on when he installed this TB. I installed it which only took about 20 min start to finish and I work on computers all day. But My stang ran just fine after installing it. I have a C&L cold air intake , bama tuner, and a TB spacer and everything fit fine. It was a little tough to get the rubber hose that connects the TB with the intake tube though as the new TB is Larger so that one hose needs to be stretched a little but it will go on. Now for performance gains between 2000-3500rpm i can tell that there is definitely more power. It is way easier to lay a patch from a dead stop just hitting the gas (with out doing a brake stand). It has also improved throttle response a lot. Not that it was bad before but now its like the throttle response you get from a Nissan VQ engine in a 370z its tap and go response. If your not convinced about the power gains you can go to to see the dyno run video they did. It shows hp gain of 12.8hp and 18.96 ft-lbs at around 3500 rpm and 4.72hp and 8.38 ft-lbs on the high end Its pretty cool. Hope this review helps...Ooh ya I Also Highly recommend buying all your mustang purchases at American Muscle the prices and service CAN NOT BE BEAT and the added value of free shipping its the perfect place for all your MUSTANG NEEDS. Thank you American Muscle for another great product :)

Quick, Easy, Nice Sound and Response

Took only a few minutes. trickiest part was removing the two sensors lol. i have this installed with the steed pro flow. noticed a much deeper note of the tone on the intake and exhaust and throttle response increased nicely. Fit was tight with the intake but can be done fine. just work your way up from the bottom and you'll be fine. definitely is worth doing with an intake, as i was able to see through my diablo tuner that a lot more air was being fed to my engine throughout the whole rpm range. i have a video on youtube of how it sounds. check it out. username is pfmustang.

      This product really works.

It took only about 1/2 hr to install. It is a noticeable increase in power. There is way more throttle response now. That is exactly what I was looking for. I've already got Steeda cold air induction, a SCT tune, Flowmaster mufflers and this was the finishing touch. What a huge difference from stock. Now this v-6 feels like a true muscle car.

      Throaty sound with my Airraid

Hardest partook install was getting my Airraid out of the way and it still took less than an hour. Definitely improved low end torque. Had to learn how drive the car again as 1st to 2nd can light up the tires a lot easier now. This product, my Airraid and the Bama tune are a great combination for fun.

      Is it worth the price...Maybe...

I own a 2015 Mustang V6, installed a Roush Cold Air Intake and Roush Axle Back exhaust prior to installing this throttle body. The reviews were decent, so I thought I would give this a 'go' to see if there really would be a noticeable gain in HP. The product itself is well made and worth the 5 stars. The install was pretty easy as well. No real issues at all. I read that others had a difficult time fitting the air inlet from the Cai onto the throttle body, but that wasn't the case for me at all. I was worried about this at the onset, but the Roush Cai tube seemed like it was made to fit this throttle body. It went on with zero issues and fit perfectly. No lubricant needed to assist at all. Once installed, I took out the car for a ride to see if I could notice any difference. And the answer is....Maybe... Sometimes I feel like the car has some better pick-up, but it's not dramatic at all, and had someone installed this and not told me, I don't know if I would honestly know the difference. Would I buy it again...Maybe. It's a steep price, and I think a tuner would be a better place to spend your money. However, I can notice some subtle differences with it on, so if you have the money, go for it. Don't be fooled by others saying "Wow! It's a totally different car!" ... You won't feel that way...You WILL notice some subtle improvement, but you won't be blown away. I don't regret the purchase, and you won't either. Just temper your expectations.

      Easy install

This product is kinda pricey but it works and it works well. It slightly lowered the tone of my Roush axle-backs, and increased throttle response quite a bit. I have also noticed a slight improvement in MPG which is odd because I usually drive it harder after installing a mod, but I am pleasantly surprised. It's something that you need to do if you want to make your V6 run as best as possible. Install was easy. I would have had it done in about a half hour if I had not dropped a bolt down the inlet for the CAI.

      its good

Installed in 20 mins. I have tune, C&L cai, 3.73 and now this. More power is definitely there, but there is a short window. There is a bbk dyno chart out there that shows most gains is between 2k-4.25 rpms. So max hp is only increased 5 and 8tq. Throughout the dyno curve there is a peak of 13hp and 18tq, and its pretty constant between those rpms that I mentioned. This TB is most beneficial for quicker acceleration. And boy do you feel the it. It also gives my stock exhaust a deeper, slightly louder sound. For me, one super cool thing is that after installing this, I now chirp going into 3rd now, in my auto! Before i only chirped going into 2.

I have the C&L Intake installed. The fit was SUPER tight, but it did end up fitting. Maybe if the intake wasn't installed, the performance gains would be more, but for the most part, they are marginal. If you have a stock intake, this may produce more bang for your buck. I had to take the entire intake out to install this as well, not just the inlet pipe from the filter.

      BBK 73mm Throttle Body

I was one of those skeptics you will read about in the reviews. A guy at a Performance shop told me not to get it and to spend my money elsewhere because I wouldn't notice any increase in power. WOW was he way off!! This is by far the best mod I've done yet. Previously I installed Long Tube Headers and surprisingly the throttle body made a waaaayy more significant change to torque and HP! If you don't have this I would highly suggest this part. I also have a race tune, BBK LT Headers, Roush CAI, and now this BBK Throttle body and my V6 is just a plain beast now. I actually took out a 450 HP Mercedes S550 the other day. He complimented my car when he finally caught up at the next traffic light lol!

      Not worth it :/

I have an airaid CAI, nothing else. Adding the TB at this point made very little gains, I was expecting a little more push under the 3k range. FOUR HUNDRED dollars is def not worth these very marginal gains, use your money somewhere else.

      Great part, great value

The 73mm BBK throttle body is a great performance mod. Installation was a breeze, it only took me about 15 mins with nothing more that a socket wrench. I immediately noticed quicker acceleration while driving on the highway in 6th gear. I would recommend this part to all buyers, and it is a bargain at $400. I already had a cold air and a 93 bama race tune, and the throttle body really was a great addition. Great part.

      Great Product.

Ok so please do not use my product rating as an actual rating this product is great. A few problems but minor... 1. This product will NOT fit with a throttlebody spacer. I was able to get mine on but the front bottom bolt had to be tightened with a box wrench NOT RECOMMENDED but im a mechanic so I know what im doing. BBK ships bolts with it but when you have the spacer the bolts supplied are not long enough. 2. I have the BBK Cold Air Intake. Because the rubber boot from the intake pipe to the throttle body is made for a stock throttlebody it is a little tough of a fit I was able to get it on with some forcing my fear is over time the rubber will weaken and crack and break. 3. because your cars computer has to relearn throttle positions and relearn how much air is going in, it started misfiring a bit. I drove down the road, shut the car off, started it and still had misfires. Off and on again the the check engine light went off and it stopped missing. HERE IS THE GOOD PART. I did notice low end torque not much difference in 3rd and 4th gear but first and second felt a little more torque. Slightly more, but should shave a few tenths off my 1/4 mile time because 60ft will be faster. Next plan is the BAMA tuning with an SCT tuner so im assuming with both the tuner and this throttlebody i should expect to see some good gains in power and torque as well as faster 1/4 mile times. Running 13.93 now with Barton Short throw, BBK CAI, and 3.31 gears from factory. so we will see next spring.

      First impressions

I decided to get the bbk throttle body after my brother put one on his 99 v6 mustang and I saw a huge difference in throttle response power and sound. My car is stock other than the candl cai on my 15 v6 DD with 17k miles on it still new. Installation of the throttle body was not hard I used wd40 to slide the tube on tight squeeze and had to buy a larger hose clamp. Over the past few days driving it I do notice the difference from the stock 68mm keeping in mind my car is still new so the deference was more subtle than the 99 v6. it seems to me that this part is a high performance part and would be great for some one into racing because i notice my car is picking up speed alot faster in each gear. The sound paired with cai has been beefed up especially when your car is between 2k rpms and 4. I don't have buyers remorse because I am glad this part is on my car, it is my second mod I did to it and installation was so easy in comparison with bbk shorty headers but the price is a hundred bucks more.. my point is I need bbk shorty headers I feel will really make it come alive and will be my next mod. I am glad I got this throttle body first though to really see what it can do on its own when I put on my headers I'm sure it will make everything come together really nice

      Noticeable throttle response

The rubber gaskets that come with are pretty hard to get on. That was my biggest problem I ran into but other then that if you have a aftermarket intake then you will want to put the rubber gasket on throttle body first. Takes about 30-45 minutes to get it on right. Can notice the throttle response right after put on, great noise and gained about 10hp for me.

      Only because I had to

I only purchased this throttle body because I had to (stock TB was rejected by the car for some reason), but it does have noticeable improvements over the stock TB. Throttle response is quicker and it seems to pick up better on the high end. Fit was great and all went on in less than an hour.
