- How to Install a BBK 73mm Throttle Body on your 2011-2013 Mustang V6
Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I'm taking a closer look at BBK's 73mm Throttle Body, fitting the Drive-by-Wire 3.7 L V6, found in all 2011 and newer V6 Mustangs. The basic function of this Throttle Body is to allow more air into your engine, by replacing your smaller diameter 68mm factory Throttle Body with this larger 73mm unit. Now ultimately you can expect a small bump in power and throttle response. Taking a closer look at the throttle body, you can see that it's been designed and built very well. The body is cast from 356 grade aluminum, and all the internals have been strengthened and gone over as well. A real nice feature of this BBK Throttle Body is that it already includes all of your Drive-by-Wire electronics, which have been pre-installed for you. This makes this a 100% Plug-n-Play bolt-on-and-go mod. Now you can run this Throttle Body bone-stock without a tune or an intake, and still make more power, but this is one of those mods that's greatly benefit from other supporting mods, such as Cold Air Intake Systems, Headers Exhaust, and especially a tune. Another benefit of using this BBK is the ease of install. Now since it already includes all of your Drive-By-Wire electronics, as I already pointed out, you literally unbolt your factory Throttle Body, unplug the sensor, and then re-install the new BBK in reverse order. Doing all of this should take you no more than an hour. So if you're looking to make the most out of your 3.7 L V6, and to complement your other Bolt-Ons, then be sure to check out this 73mm BBK Throttle Body, right here at AmericanMuscle.com.

Unnecessary and Broke
This throttle body isn’t much bigger than the stock one and After having it in the car for about 7 months, it had to be replaced. It’s not worth the $450 replacement. Especially if it’s going to break within the year.Helpful (1)

Not worth it
The throttle body does what it’s supposed to do. But there’s really no performance gain. Great as a replacement if you broke the OEM one. Easy install. Purchased it to see if it was true that these make no difference and indeed it’s true. Maybe you’ll see a slight throttle response increase, but you can probably get that from a tune ($400) and the tune will be a better bang for your buck. OEM does the job just fine, you’ll see no performance increase. Ps: car is FBO on a 100 shot nitrous.Helpful (0)

Car is MPT tuned, tuned length headers, roush CAI, 3.73 gears and it’s all been a good experience until this throttle body. Recently added this throttle body and it was a terrible experience. Car tries to accelerate on its own, pressing the accelerator causes the RPMs to hang rather than go down. When putting the vehicle in N or P it now continues to raise in RPMs.. there are cheaper throttle body’s that function better than this junk.Helpful (4)

Well worth it
Great item, easy install less than 15mins, really could tell the difference an more gas mileageHelpful (1)
Stock 68mm to this 73mm. That is only 5mm more. Is that miniscule amount really going to give gains of 15HP? I doubt it..
This alone will not gain upwards of 15 HP. As stated in the video above, this working in unison with other supporting mods will give you a larger increase in power.
Is there a throttle body spacer that is available that will work with this throttle body?
If you are looking for a throttle body spacer that will work with the BBK 73mm Throttle Body (11-17 V6), look no further than the SR Performance Throttle Body Spacer (11-17 V6) item #41337 (www.americanmuscle.com/sr-throttle-body-spacer-1114v6.html). This spacer connects directly to the throttle body to give your Mustang more power by increasing plenum volume.
Will I need to update my tune for this?
This BBK TB does not require a tune after installation. However, getting a tune will offer you the best performance from the upgrade! If you already have Bama tunes (even if you didn't have a tuner/tunes yet), I'd highly recommend getting updated tune files to include this TB. Your engine will be getting increased air flow and letting your computer know that will only help improve power!
Will this work with the JLT Intake? I have a JLT Intake on my 2012 V6 and I am looking into getting this throttle body, and wasn't sure if it would fit right or if i needed to change/modify the piping that came with the Intake.
It will fit the same as stock just a bit tighter that's all :)
Will this fit with an Air Raid CAI? I already have a Air Raid CAI for the 2012 V6. I am wondering if it is possible to add this as well. I understand it may be difficult, but I would surely purchase if I knew it is possible. Thanks
yes, if you look at the pictures for this product, there is picture of a car with an air raid CAI and BBk throttle body.
The BBK 73mm Throttle Body will fit with a K&N Typhoon Intake.
This will give a great sound for the pony compared to the factory throttle body.
The BBK 73mm Throttle Body does fit with the BBK Blackout Cold Air Intake.
Hello! The Airaid Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer is recommended as a product "you might also like," giving an alternative to those who may not be interested in upgrading their throttle body. The throttle body bolts are not long enough to install the two items together.
The 2017 3.7L V6 will come with a 68mm throttle body from Ford. The listing of 80mm is incorrect.
Hello! Although that could be the cause of your issue, I would definitely recommend bringing the car to mechanic to know for sure instead of buying parts without having the car professionally diagnosed. That sounds like it could be a pretty serious issue.
BBK 73mm Throttle Body 5mm larger in diameter when compared to the stock throttle body, making the stock size 68mm. The stock intake coupler for the SR Performance is a pretty snug fit for the original throttle body, however, if you need a bigger coupler for a new throttle body, they can be obtained for about $10.00, depending on brand.
A throttle body will likely add about 5-10 HP depending on the tunes and everything else in your application. Ultimately, your tuner is going to know the answer better than anyone, I would recommend asking them directly.
Probably not, though it wouldn't be bad. You could just go with a bigger one which would probably do you better. Ultimately, your tuner will be the only one who can really answer this as the answer entirely depends on the tune being written for the application.
