Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey gang, Justin from AmericanMuscle.com here with a couple of Mustang throwbacks. I’m talking about these retro 5-speed shift knobs and available for all 79-04 Mustangs, Flashy chrome shift knobs weren’t all the rage back in the 60s and 70s, chances are if you owned a Mustang or Hotrod back then you would find something similar to either this white, or black knob. Both of these knobs are CNC in a single block of either black or white resin and are not painted, therefore you don’t have to worry about them chipping or fading over the years. I noticed that some of you on the site have mentioned these knobs don’t get as hot during the summer moths thanks to that resin. Installing a new shift knob has to be one of the easiest mods to tackle on your ride. Simply unscrew your factory knob, screw on the retainer nut first then install your new retro 5-speed knobs, getting everything put on shouldn’t take you any more than 5 minutes. And I’ve noticed that some of you on the site have mentioned that once you have installed your retro 5-speed knob you have a little trouble keeping that shift boot up, well I’ve got an easy fix for that and all you need for it is a roll of electrical tape. Once you’ve got your tape all you need to do is wrap it around the top of your shifter a couple times until you have created enough of a lip to keep your factory shift boot up, see, easy and quick fix to a common problem. These shift knobs are a great way to give your ride that classic retro vibe that never goes out of style all while taking it easy on your wallet, check them out.

Nostalgic Styling. Add a cool vintage touch to your modern manual pony with a Modern Billet Retro Style Black Shift Knob. This shift knob features the standard 5-speed shift pattern right on top.

Quality Materials. This Shift Knob is a made from a solid black resin compound, not painted! So there is no need to worry about paint flaking off in your hand.

Simple Install. Just unscrew your old stock shift knob off and screw the new knob on, it's just like changing a light bulb.

Application. The Modern Billet Retro Style Black Shift Knob is designed to fit 1979 to 2004 5-speed Manual Mustangs or Mustangs with a 12mm x 1.75 thread pattern shift handle.Note. Not compatible with 2003-2004 6-speed Cobra Mustangs.

    Solid

I almost thought this was a bit too pricey for what it is, but compared to anything else on the marked I could find, you can't beat it. I used it to replace a worn-out one that came with the car that attached with three allen screws. The screws kept coming loose, damage the threads on the shifter, and don't hold solid, and costs $30 in stores.I needed a good replacement, and for $10 more you get this solid, no-nonsense shifter knob that fits properly, feels great, and is a great compliment to a short shift kit. It looks good in the car and is large enough to your fingers don't get that cramped up feeling from the smaller shifter knobs that are so common. I'd buy it again if mine broke, which it won't, because it's quite solid. Highly recommended.

    get something else!

This product looked awesome...... in the box. when I put it on the pattern didn't face me and it screws off frequently when shifting, and yes it is screwed on tight. about a week later the bushing thing unscrew from the knob. I wish i would've chosen a different knob. I love AM but this knob was not worth the money.

Nice looking but massive in size

The shift knob is well built but my dislike about it is the size, it almost the size as a pool ball!! I dont think ill be happy with this one but ill give it a shot, kinda wish i had waited intill the Mach 1 style knob was back in stock.

    Great Shift Knob

I really like this knob as I prefer this shape over the stock knob shape. It feels great and looks great and the price is fair, not too expensive. Only slight drawback, that might be fixable, is that the shift boot sits lower than the knob, so the shaft is exposed. Not too pleased about that, but maybe I can fix it.

    mehhhh...

I really liked it when i saw it so I decided to order one. What came out of the box was a bit disappointing. It looks great and the installation is just screwing the thing in but when i held it for the first time, it felt too BIG. I'm not sure if my hands are too small but this thing is massive. I thought it would be the size of golf ball but a bit bigger, nope it is almost the size of an apple! Also what is wrong with the price? This thing is too expensive! at least for its purpose. Other than that it was a pretty good purchase.

    Retro Shift Knob Install ...

The installation takes all of a minute or two and is a no- brainer in terms of talent involved. However, the real plus in opting for the this (or similar) shift knob over the existing OE (leather style) knob is when combined w/a short shift kit. The OE knob, due to the design, tends to insulate the driver from the precision that a shift kit provides. It is a night and day comparison between the two knobs. You are not getting the full value of any shift kit by retaining the OE shift knob.

    Clean Cut Retro Look !

Received this item to replace the factory shift knob on my 1998 GT, which had seen better days. Arrived very timely, like all my other AM orders. Took 10 seconds to spin on, fit was perfect, tighten jam nut, and away we go ! Looks great. Thanks AM Tom Listello O'Fallon, MO

Exactly what i wanted and paid for.

I received what the description described. I had the leather wrapped shifter knob on a short throw shifter. The leather was worn and time to replace it. It is about 80 baseball size and fits my hand well. Installation was less than 5 minuets. Just remove the old knob, screw on jam nut, screw on this knob till it stops. Back it up until the pattern is where you want it and tighten jam nut.

    Looks Good

It was processed and shipped very fast. Arrived and did not take long at all to install. It looks very sharp and it sticks out very well with the interior. The only problem i had was that the shift boot would fall down and expose some of the excess threading. simple fix and it looks great!
