Improves Shifts. Get quick, crisp, shorter throws with an SR Performance Short Throw Sport Shifter. Get rid of that loose sloppy feeling of your factory shifter and enjoy rowing through the gears every time you get in your manual Mustang.

Adjustable. Two sets of centering return springs and adjustable shift stops allow you to adjust the shift handle firmness to your own personal preference. The included handle of this SR Performance Short Shifter allows for multiple positions for further adjust-ability.

Superior Construction. The upper collar of this SR Performance T5/T45 Sport Shifter is constructed out of pure billet aluminum for strength and weight reduction, while the base is cast aluminum to provide a sturdy platform for those heavy handed shifters.

Ask a Question

are the springs and washers necessary to assembly

  • The springs included with the SR Performance Short Throw Sport Shifter are replacements for the tension spring to allow adjustment of the shifter's tension. The washers are needed for the install and will go on the bolts connecting the shifter to the transmission to evenly distribute the clamping force.

I have been running this shifter for a while in my 04 V6. I was just wanting to know if it has the same reduction in shift as the other SR performance shifter

What is the difference between the SR performance short throw shifter and the SR Performance short throw 'sport' shifter?

  • The sport short throw shifter utilizes a 3 piece design which, while not sacrificing performance, is slightly weaker than that of its 2 piece billet aluminum counterpart.

My question is this says 82- early 01 so I am assuming this would not work in a 01 with a production date of 08/01 or would I be mistaken?

  • Hey Michael, You are correct, this would not work in a late model 2001 (08/01) because the transmission had changed to the TR3650 and this would be for the T5/T45

Will it work on a 1990 2.3?

  • The SR Performance Short Throw Sport Shifter is specifically designed to be used on V8's and V6's equipped with T5/T45's, and will not fit on your 2.3 Mustang.

Instalation information? And what are the springs for?

  • The springs help keep the shifter centered when in neutral. If you follow the link below, it will take you to an installation guide.

Thought it was awesome til i compared..

Bought this shifter about a year ago for my 96 GT with T45 trans. Was very tight on cash and wanted a shifter with shift stops to prevent a bent shift fork. I'll be honest - I thought the shifter was amazing the first few times i shifted it - crisp and firm through the gears compared to the sloppy stocker. But the throw is not reduced by much at all. I still reach for 3rd and 5th. The shifter is slammed down, but that doesnt make for shorter shifts. I thought I made out on a great deal until I felt a friend's GT with a Hurst shifter and I was blown away and embarassed. He asked if I still had the stock shifter in my car. Numerous times have had the bolts back out - even with tons of loctite on all of them. Had trouble popping out of gear until I realized it was the bolts backing out of the shifter base. Overall has been quite the headache over the last few months. I'll be honest - its better than stock, but not even in the same ballpark as a Tri-Ax, Hurst, MGW, or any of the other decent brand name ones. Rated 2 stars because I still have my shift forks I suppose.

Lightning fast shipping as usual. Thanks AM!! Everything went together great. As some others mentioned, the hardware provided wasnt the of the studs stripped before it even came close to being tight, so I used one of the stock bolts in its place. Other than that, shifter feels great, and much more confident feeling that the car is in gear. Only Con I found was this shifter when installed is about an inch or so more to the right than the stock first gear now feels like the stock 3rd gear position...

I jus got it today. It took me about an hour to put in everything went smooth until I had to get the old shifteroff the tranny. I used a car jack an a screw driver. But shifter feels very nice. Having a lil problem downshifting into second that's jus an adjustment. No need to purschase any other shifter this one does the job.

    95 cobra

I have to say that I am always pleased with the parts that I get from A.M. But this time I was let down, the shifter vibrate and rattles under acceleration. They send you 4 springs 2 of which are supposed to make it a little firmer to shift. But I got 3 of the soft and 1 firm spring. I have taken this thing off and have my stocker back on until I get the money for a Quality shifter.

    10,000mi and still awesome

After logging 10,000 with this shifter, using the weak spring, and having the handle set all the way up here are my thoughts: Very positive shifts Very aggressive, firm gate changes Very good feel Very good value. Is it worth $300.00? Probably not. Is it worth $150.00? Probably Does it cost either? Not even close! With everything on the internet, you have to decide for yourself. After reading reviews, I have to say that the amount of stupidity is shocking. Use your best judgment, and buy this shifter if you want a budget short throw.

    Buyers beware

I had this shifter on my 2000 V6. I loved it. It shortened the throws and felt nice an notchy. I sold the v6 and tried to put it in my 97 Cobra. It did not seat properly because the bottom ball pin is longer than the stock one. I just forced on and It would grind when hard shifting. Also was very stiff when in neutral because it wouldn't go back to the middle position unless I forced it. Very disappointed.

I am 6 feet and 3 inches tall and with the stock shifter I always caught myself reaching for gears because of my long legs. I cant go and chop my legs off so i finally decided to chop down on the throw of the shift. I ordered the short throw shifter on 3/12/13 and showed up at my door the very next night 3/13/13 around 6pm AmericanMuscle's shipping is FAST. Installation was easy took me abit over an hour. I then took the car for a cruise and it's a huge difference! I am very happy I finally made this change. Thanks AM

great shifter at a great price

this is a must for any 5 speed. the shifter made a world of difference and until you have one you don't realize how sloppy the stock one is. this should be one of your first upgrades.

    Lasted 3 months

This is the absolute worst product I have ever bought for my cobra. You get what you pay for, while shifting from first to second (not ripping the gears) the shift lever snapped in half at the transmission . Owned it for a little over 3 months and the points where it mates up are very weak aluminum You get what you pay for . Simple as that

    Great shifter for the price

I bought this shifter for my 95 GT and I absolutely love it. It has the perfect amount of length reduction along with the proper amount of slop to give it an all around great feel. Combined with the Mach 1 shift knob it feels like a brand new shifter in my aging car. Would recommend to anyone!
