Improves Shifts. Get rid of that clumsy feeling that many stock Mustang shifters have with a Hurst Billet Plus Shifter. The Hurst shifter features a high ratio pivot mechanism for quicker, shorter throws and a polymide pivot cup to reduce jarring vibrations.

Hurst Quality. The Hurst shifter base and stop collar is CNC machined from billet aluminum for it's strength and lightweight. The included black shifter handle is heat treated for superior strength.

Application. This Hurst Billet Plus Shifter is designed for use with Mustangs equipped with the T-5/T-45 manual transmission, including the 1983-Early 2001 V8 Mustang Models, 1983-2004 V6 and 1996-1999 Cobra models. The shift handle reuses the stock shift knob or an aftermarket knob with a 12mm x 1.75 thread pattern.

        5 2000 GT - GaryGreenfield

        Great Shifter

Great Item. My 00 GT Mustang has only 20,000 on it. The shifter was by no means worn. I grew up on Hurst Shifters. Had one in my my 70 Cobra Torino and 68 GT Mustang. It is well built with firm, crisp short throws. It took me about 1.5 Hrs. to remove/install the new shifter. Gary

5 1996 Cobra - Pedersen Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Hurst Shifter

Great quality compared to stock shifter and only took 45 minutes to install. Shift stops are easy to adjust and shifting fees shorter.

Received the shifter within 2 days. Had it installed in about an hour. Looks good and shifts smoothly. Very happy with it.

        3 2000 V6 - TannerC Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        The shifter is great

The shifter is great but the instructions say to torque the new bolts to 20 pounds but when I put my torque wrench to it the last bolt snapped and now I have to remove it with an extractor kit

5 2001 Cobra - SVTCobra Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

This is what the mustang needs

The stock shifter has such a long throw that it would make it uncomfortable, and sometimes miss the gear when shifting fast. I love this thing.

        5 2003 V6 - Misguided1 Installation Time: Afternoon

        Pretty "shifty"

This short throw shifter works very well. It was relatively easy to install and took me about 2.5 hours to do which included researching the type of transmission, assembling the tools, taking off the factory unit, scraping the RTV from the base, installing the new unit and cleaning up. Compared to the factory unit it uses very high quality materials that seem to be much heavier. It shifts well though I expected even shorter shifts, but the shift from 2nd to 3rd is considerably shorter. It rates as excellent overall.

4 1997 Cobra - motorhall Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        Good quality and good upgrade

Installation took right around an hour, and a lot of that time was just scraping off old sealant. The spacer plate for the T45 trans is asymmetrical and will only go on one way. I had a bit of a scare thinking I had the wrong part until I realized this. I recommend initially breaking the shifter mounting bolts with a six-point socket and a breaker bar so that you don't accidentally round the heads of the bolts. The shift action is a bit shorter and more precise than the stock unit, so it requires slightly higher shifting effort. But I mainly got this unit because I wanted a good shifter with built-in adjustable stops.

What more can I say? I LOVE this product!!! Nothing but quality! WORLD of difference in my pony! I did buy the gasket with it as you don't need the sealant. Did I say this was amazing??? So amazingly easy to install yourself!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!

        2 1998 V6 - Josh0524 Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

        thought hurst was good company

I was looking into shifter for a while and I was told that Hurst was a great company. I decided to give Hurst a shot for myself. I bought this shifter and I noticed something was unusually with it and that was that the rail cup (the plastic piece that goes on the ball of the shifter) was really loose. Not sure if that was normal so I continued installing it and after I installed a it and put everything back together I drove it to work that night and I put it in fifth and I was just cursing and it constantly pops out of gear and my old shifter never did that so I'm not to happy about that especially with it being over $200.

        Magic

Love the shifter! Super easy install! Went from banging a soda can in 2nd to being able to actually shift with a BK large drink cup in the front drink holder.

I am in the market for a shifter i want one thats notchy when throwing it into gear i dont care to much for smooth shifting i want to know when im in a gear

      • It would depend on what year car and transmission your vehicle has, hurst and barton are good ways to start for the transmissions in the newer mustangs, in the older T5s or T45's, steeda would be another route to go as well, but again, it would depend on the year of mustang and what transmission you have.

Gasket? Do u need to buy the seperate shifter base gasket for this shifter or is the gasket included with the shifter

      • On the unit I purchased no gasket was required, the unit is sealed with Blue RTV sealant, which is purchased separately.
