I am in the market for a shifter i want one thats notchy when throwing it into gear i dont care to much for smooth shifting i want to know when im in a gear

        • It would depend on what year car and transmission your vehicle has, hurst and barton are good ways to start for the transmissions in the newer mustangs, in the older T5s or T45's, steeda would be another route to go as well, but again, it would depend on the year of mustang and what transmission you have.

Gasket? Do u need to buy the seperate shifter base gasket for this shifter or is the gasket included with the shifter

        • On the unit I purchased no gasket was required, the unit is sealed with Blue RTV sealant, which is purchased separately.

            Hurst Shifter

Great quality compared to stock shifter and only took 45 minutes to install. Shift stops are easy to adjust and shifting fees shorter.

Received the shifter within 2 days. Had it installed in about an hour. Looks good and shifts smoothly. Very happy with it.

            The shifter is great

The shifter is great but the instructions say to torque the new bolts to 20 pounds but when I put my torque wrench to it the last bolt snapped and now I have to remove it with an extractor kit

This is what the mustang needs

The stock shifter has such a long throw that it would make it uncomfortable, and sometimes miss the gear when shifting fast. I love this thing.

            Pretty "shifty"

This short throw shifter works very well. It was relatively easy to install and took me about 2.5 hours to do which included researching the type of transmission, assembling the tools, taking off the factory unit, scraping the RTV from the base, installing the new unit and cleaning up. Compared to the factory unit it uses very high quality materials that seem to be much heavier. It shifts well though I expected even shorter shifts, but the shift from 2nd to 3rd is considerably shorter. It rates as excellent overall.

            Good quality and good upgrade

Installation took right around an hour, and a lot of that time was just scraping off old sealant. The spacer plate for the T45 trans is asymmetrical and will only go on one way. I had a bit of a scare thinking I had the wrong part until I realized this. I recommend initially breaking the shifter mounting bolts with a six-point socket and a breaker bar so that you don't accidentally round the heads of the bolts. The shift action is a bit shorter and more precise than the stock unit, so it requires slightly higher shifting effort. But I mainly got this unit because I wanted a good shifter with built-in adjustable stops.

What more can I say? I LOVE this product!!! Nothing but quality! WORLD of difference in my pony! I did buy the gasket with it as you don't need the sealant. Did I say this was amazing??? So amazingly easy to install yourself!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!

            thought hurst was good company

I was looking into shifter for a while and I was told that Hurst was a great company. I decided to give Hurst a shot for myself. I bought this shifter and I noticed something was unusually with it and that was that the rail cup (the plastic piece that goes on the ball of the shifter) was really loose. Not sure if that was normal so I continued installing it and after I installed a it and put everything back together I drove it to work that night and I put it in fifth and I was just cursing and it constantly pops out of gear and my old shifter never did that so I'm not to happy about that especially with it being over $200.

Definitely sounds like the shifter needs to be readjusted or you may have received one that wasn't manufactured properly if readjustment doesn't fix the issue. We haven't heard of any similar issues on this shifter in the past. I will have a customer service rep in contact with you as soon as possible so we can rectify this situation for you.

Be sure to dry fit first before silconing. The spacer plate for the t45 only fits one way all tho it looks like a perfect rectangle we made the mistake of siloconng and putting it together nd only 2 holes ligned up had to take it apart than clean all the silicone off after it dryed other than that worked great my shifter no longer touches the dash in first btw tighten the Allan bolts that hold th lever to the shifter mine came loose after a day

            Feels Amazing

The first thing you will notice about this shifter is how solid it feels and is constructed, compared to the sloppy factory/Tremec shifter. This shifter also moves the shifter knob further forward, allowing you to use your front cup holder and moving the shifter to a much more suitable place in relation to the steering wheel. Now, my shoulder doesn't need to come off of the seat to shift into 5th. Note: installation was a snap, however the factory shifter rubber surround needs to be trimmed, and cannot be wrapped around the entire shifter assembly. In hind-sight, I should have trimmed the rubber and wrapped it around the shifter below the Hurst boot. I didn't do that, and had to come up with something to combat the excessive amounts of road noise that will enter the cabin if you completely remove that rubber. Also, the tie strap supplied with my shifter kit was too short to fit around the shifter body. Had to go a pick up some longer ones.

            hurst short shifter

I love it quick shipping and as soon as I got it I installed it. Took maybe around 30-45 mins. Fit perfect all you need is to buy the gasket sealing. Came with instructions but didn't even bother to look at the. Feeels great. Before you put it in tho you should put some trans fluid in.

            Great shifter

Really, in a daily driver, there's no performance gains. But it feels great, throwing it into gear. It just slides, then clicks into place. I ran into an issue when installing it; I had my trans rebuilt, and the shop didn't drive a pin all the way home (on the top of the shifter mechanism in the trans). It wouldn't go into gear at all or anything. Once I figured out the problem, I had it in in about 10 minutes. Works perfectly, no problems.

            Decent upgrade

I installed the shifter in combination with my trans rebuild project and the lightweight driveshaft. The throw reduction was less than I thought it would be. But never the less, it works well and is a quality product. Just be sure to tighten those adjustment screws down all the way or you could end up on the city sidestreets without 1st, 3rd and 5th gears... Lesson learned the hard way!

I bought this shifter and three days later it arrived. I could not believe how quick the shipping was. The install was real simple only took me 30 minutes from start to finish. You will be satisfied if you purchased this shifter it has much firmer and shorter shifts.
