Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with a great way to add some of that retro 70’s styling to your 2010-2012 Mustang, using MMD’s rear deck lid panel. MMD is in the market of making unique, quality styling parts for newer Mustangs, and this retro style deck lid panel is a great example of this, this rear deck lid panel from MMD is a great way to bring out some more retro themes of the 2010 to 2012 cars and makes a great addition to the rear end of any Mustang. As you can see the panel does still retain that factory trunk emblem, thanks to that cutout making it look and fit like a factory part. Taking a closer look at the panel, you really can tell it’s a quality part, it’s been constructed from a durable and quick injection molded plastic, and does feature the slightest amount of texture here in the middle, which in my opinion does give the slightest little bit more character. It’s no surprise that we’re big fans of this rear deck lid panel from MMD, need some proof? Well, just check out our 2010 GT Project Blackout, or our 2011 GT bolt on build up which is on the lift behind me. Getting this panel installed on your Mustang is actually pretty easy, you’re going to want to first clean the trunk lid using the supplied alcohol prep pads, once everything’s cleaned off go ahead and remove the protective backing on the preinstalled 3M tape, and then line everything up using your trunk emblem as a guide, once in place go ahead and press firmly, and that’s it, getting everything cleaned up and installed should only take you about 30 minutes from start to finish. So if you’re looking to totally transform your 2010 through 2012 Mustang, with a retro item that installs in a matter of minutes, then be sure to check out MMD’s rear deck lid panel, available right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Can this be painted to match body paint? Is it possible to paint this item so it appears to be part of the trunk? I do NOT want to leave it plastic so it stands out.

Phantom22

  • Yes, it can be painted with the proper preparation. I fully sanded mine down to a very smooth surface before painting. It now has no textured appearance and looks great.

    Looks great!

If you're trying to black out your car or just give it a nice appearance this decklid is great for it. Fitting could be a little better but overall it is worth the money.

Love the look, hate the finish!

This product really emphasises the retro lines hidden in the design of the 2012 Mustang 5.0. I purchased the decklid when it was on sale and was satisfied with the overall quality of the product. However, the finish of the decklid in my appearance is lacking in quality in comparison to the OEM black accents of the 2012 Mustang. You really need to drown this piece in Armor All or a similar product to keep it looking good. Without it, the plastic looks almost faded or chacky.

    poor quality

It looks nice but I have had it for two weeks and it is already fading and chalky. I have to armor all it every time I wash the car.

MMD Rear Decklid Panel (11-13 ALL)

The package for this arrived in good condition and inside the part was wrapped in bubblewrap. When I installed this on my 2012 GT (performance white) it looks as though it's around 1/16" to 1/8" too short. This causes the white around my decklid to show and really takes away from the look. I also purchased the black tail light covers (box they came in looked like it was in a fight and lost) but to my surprise the parts were OK.

    Boring deck lid problem solved!

The deck lid panel arrived a day ahead of schedule and was as good as advertised. It is not only sturdy (something I was concerned about), but it is a perfect color-match to rear bumper lower section on my GT. It does look like a factory option. It will take some real focus and a steady hand to get it accurately lined up before applying pressure to the tape, but most people should not have much trouble. It was the missing item on my GT. Problem solved!

    Best fit on the market!

After having tried two other brands, and not finding either one to fit very good, I decided to give the MMD panel a try. To my delight, it fit perfectly right out of the box. And the two sided tape came pre-applied, something that could not be said of the other brands. Great fit, quality made, the MMD panel turned out to be a great accent piece on the car. Pair it up with the MMD matte black tail light trim and you have a great new look to the rear of your car!

    Nice looking Deck Lid!

After taking this lid out of the box, I noticed the two top corners had some excess plastic on the tips. I shave this off with a dremel and added some black marker to to cover up any discolor. Also when putting the decklid on, the fit wasn't perfect and the right side didn't go all the way to the edge of the trunk. Its hardly noticeable unless you know its there. I did not feel like this was important enough to return the lid. Overall its still looks great.

    Decklid Panel

This product seemed very appealing online because from reading reviews of the other blackout panel for the 2011+ mustangs, i was turned away from the gts blackout panel (item number 80174) because it left a 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap around the fake gas cap. With my ingot silver mustang, i didn't want to be able to see the paint through the gap, i felt it would look unfinished and not of high quality. I ordered this piece and it arrived within 5 days. UPS damaged the box and the "tips" of the panel on the top half towards the sides had been punctured through the box, although it sucked, AM took care of me right and immediately sent a replacement piece. The replacement piece comes with signs of box damage again, but not nearly to the extent as the first. The top "tips" again were what was problematic, they were slightly bent. I took a nail file and just shaved off the little bit that was bent to make it look correct (im a perfectionist). The backing to the 3m tape was a little tricky to get off, i ended up using an exacto knife to pry it away and peel it off (could be from the arizona summer heat). The panel lines up perfectly and fits very nicely. I would say this is a great product, but i ranked it with 4 stars due to shipping trouble.
