    Video Review & Installation

This is a Hawk Performance Sector 27 Rotors and HPS 5.0 Brake Pad Kit that fits all 2005 to 2014 Mustangs. This kit includes a Sector 27 rear rotors and the HPS 5.0 rear brake pads. You're gonna wanna check out this kit from Hawk if you're looking to replace or upgrade your rear brakes with a setup that's more performance-based than the stock setup is, and you wanna go with the Hawk name. This kit is known to give a bump in stopping performance and have minimal fade, be gentle on the rotors, and have low dust levels and noise levels. I'll go over the install in more detail later, but this is gonna be a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter because we are just talking about a simple brake replacement here. Like most other brake pad kit upgrades, this kit, of course, is a bolt-on kit that's gonna come with upgraded rotors and pads, which will make a difference in your stopping performance. The kit offers one-piece drilled and slotted rotors that are cast iron and zinc plated, and upgraded brake pads. Hawk offers these brake pads to have minimal fade and very low noise, an extended pad life, and have better pedal feel than the stock brake pads, all while being easy on the rotors. So these pads won't be chewing up your rotors. Moving on to the rotors, these are cast-iron rotors. The rotors and pads need to work well together so that you have quiet stopping without too much dust and without prematurely wearing out the rotors. These rotors are slotted and drilled to give better performance. The slotted portion of the rotor is the grooves that are cut along the face here where the pad makes contact. The drilled part of the rotor are the holes that are right here. Slotting and drilling a rotor gives the gasses and dust that forms when you have repeated heavy braking a place to escape to. There's a material transfer that happens because there's friction between the pads and the rotors, and the slots and the drilled holes give a place for the gasses to escape to and the heat to vent through. This means more contact surface area for the brake pad, which we all know is a good thing. So by creating more contact surface, the slots work to fight against brake fade. As far as price goes, you can expect to pay just south of the $200 mark for this kit. This is slightly more expensive than the other Hawk kit, but that's because this kit comes with the HPS brake pads and the other Hawk kit comes with ceramic pads. Or, if you wanted something more budget-friendly altogether, you can always check out the Xtreme Stop options instead. When it comes to the install, it's not extremely time-consuming, but you're gonna wanna have a little bit of knowledge in order to do this yourself, and that comes down to a safety thing. If you aren't sure, I'd side on letting a shop perform the install, but otherwise, you're looking at a two-hour project and a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter. To give a general overview of the install, you're looking at disassembling the OE rear brakes so you can pull your rear wheel to get to your calipers and your rotors. Those will come off so you can swap in your new rotors and pads. It's nothing difficult and you don't have to do anything that you normally wouldn't do during a normal brake maintenance. There are two bolts on each caliper that you'll loosen so you can pull the caliper off. You wanna then support the caliper so it isn't hanging on the brake line at all. The old pads will come out of the brackets and the calipers. Make sure you lubricate the slider pins and the calipers. Use the disc brake piston tool to compress the calipers so you can install your new pads. Next, you'll simply swap your old rotors for your new rotors. Lower the caliper over the rotor and line up the caliper bolts so you can bolt it back into place. Then, you're gonna wanna tighten your bolts. After that, you're gonna wanna double check your brake fluid and your pedal feel. If you need to, bleed the brakes after the install and don't forget about the brake with the new brakes. You wanna make sure that they're safe and that they're gonna have a long life. That's gonna wrap things up with the Hawk Performance Sector 27 Rotors and the HPS 5.0 Brake Pad Kit for the rear of the 2005 to 2014 Mustang.
